what u guys up to this weekend?
Try this? This was just after my mate had left his handbrake on on his Alfa and wondered why he couldn't gain any speed :D Had to stop for a while to re-from his melted brake discs, and got this good shot from the bridge of the services.

what u guys up to this weekend?
I've spent the evening transferring files from my old PC to my shiny new one. Unfortunately found some videos and pictures of the 3 or 4 Santa Pod trips I did in 2004 in my old black Zed (subsequently destroyed by a maniac biker) so decided to have a few JD & cokes and reminisce. What a lot has happened since then! I am so determined to make this summer a good one however, no matter what I'm driving....... ;)

What was your first seminal drive in a Zed...
i.e. a drive that you can remember well because when you got out of the car your hands were shaking, or you suddenly had new found appreciation for a car with proper power. For me, although I remember my first drive home after picking up my first zed, the drive that has never left me was my first trip to Santa Pod in it with some mates. After getting up at 4:45am to shower etc, by the time I got outside to the car, dawn had just broken and the sunrise was just bouncing off the paintwork freshly waxed the night before. There was a little bit of mist at ground level as you get some summer mornings when its going to be another hot day which just seemed to add to the sense of occasion....I knew that I was about to drive it in anger for the first time on deserted morning roads in Convoy with a highly tuned RS Escort and a Sapphire Cosworth so already had some adrenalin in the veins. I trickled through town letting the car warm up on the way to meet with the other cars at a petrol station a few miles around the ring road, but after about 5 mins a decent straight road appeared in front of me so I gave it some beans in 3rd and 4th and savoured what at the time seemed to be that seamless and endless punch in the back that no other fast car I've been in has quite matched. Realising that said petrol station was in sight and I was doing nearly twice the legal limit,I suddenly had to jump on the brakes and juuuussst made it into the forecourt, much to the amusement of my rather Ford prejudiced audience who were already parked up. This was the first time either had seen my Zed, and immediately they didn't much take to the looks, mainly because they had seen (and heard) another highly tuned local example with a nice bodykit etc. By the time we reached Santa Pod, this opinion had changed somewhat... :) We set off with the Escort leading, setting a rather illegal but relatively safe pace down some great stretches of A road punctuated by roundabouts every few miles. Driving like this is the reason I own a Zed, and have always had the fastest cars I can afford, as it just feels like you are doing what the car was made to do without hurting anyone else. Through villages we slowed sensibly despite them all being desolate at 6am, and once back onto open stretches speed increased with attention being paid to each others abilities and keeping a prudent gap between each car. Having never driven a rear drive car before my Zed, I was just getting used to the way it feels when exiting tight bends or roundabouts, but was finding it surprisingly easy to get and hold a little bit of oversteer. Knowing that there was one more roundabout before the M6, I prodded the throttle and cruised passed the other cars on the dual carriageway so I was in the lead. I slowed slightly and then manged a decent drift onto the next stretch, with the Cossie close behind looking all together more composed being a 4X4, and closing slightly due to decent exit traction. Right methinks, time to show him who's boss and kept it floored through 3rd and all the way in 4th......only to see him still right on my bumper  Once onto the M6, we stopped at the services and all decamped, leaving engines idling to cool what were by now very warm turbos, and my mates were suddenly a little more enthusiastic about the ability of my car (and my driving :) ) . I was a little annoyed that I could not shake the Cossie though so decided that I would try again if another opportunity arose before the traffic increased. Going across county from the M6 to the M1 (pre M6 toll) involves one of my favourite roads for making progress, the A50, which is a well sighted and very straight duel carriageway stretching about 40 or so miles. A few miles down the road, I got stuck behind overtaking trucks, meaning the other lads had pulled out a good lead. The truck pulled in and I was presented with about 2 miles of empty d/c with two specs in the distance as my target. This was the first time I kept going in 5th gear and could feel a grin appearing on my face as I passed 150 and simultaneously passed my companions, who had wisely stayed in the inside lane. I later found out the the escort physically shook as I passed it! i slowed to about 100, only to see the Cossie gaining rapidly in my mirror again. this time, I was determined to prove a point, so floored it again and crept back to an indicated 150, only to see him still there which was odd as I thought the top speed of his car was about 145. then, slowly but surely, the gap between us began to increase and the Zed just kept pounding on and on until it seemed to just stop at an indicated 162 or thereabouts (probably my UK 155 mph limiter!). Suddenly it dawned on me how spectacular a blow out would be at this speed, as would the following firery death, so i slowed to normal speed and blew all the breath I had been holding for the last minute. I was absolutely buzzing, as were the other two when we arrived at the Pod to set-up camp, leading to a long a boozy weekend filled with fast cars and great weather. The reputation of the mighty Zed was enhanced and I had gained images and feelings that will last a long time. I'm sure others on here have had similar drives which cement the love affair for this greta machine  P.S Any boys in blue reading, this is all a work of fiction for entertainment only ;)

Heater Matrix Gone
I think my car knows I want to sell it.....before New Year the Clutch master cylinder went, now the ****ing heater matrix has gone. :headvswal Symptoms are a damp (not yet soaking) footwell and some slight steam being blown through the vents. Wondered why my windows have been a bit steamy the last few journeys. Is the car safe to drive if the matrix is leaking slightly???. Coolant levels look Ok and tempaerture is fine. Obviously have to drive it somewhere for it to be done, but don't want to risk any damage, especially as the car is for sale! Alternatively, someone can take it off my hands for a £500 discount....see my for sale thread here

More bad news about my leg!
Crap news that Chunk, but great attitude to it all, I know I would never be able to take it so well. Like Mac said though, all being well the chair will be a thing of the past and you'll be able to do the old push the Zed back along the drag strip queue to save a few bhp trick!

Speed Cameras / SPECS
I'm sure there are no specs cameras on the M6 Toll - I have been down there early in the morning with several other cars travelling well over the limit and none of us have ever recieved an NIP. How would they justify 'safety' cameras on a brand new motorway with no blackspots. There are traffic cameras on the gantry's but these are not speed cameras AFAIK.

I'm also with A-Plan, cheapest I found for a modded, limited miles fully-comp policy after a lot of research.

Profec B II owners...
Hmmm...interesting. Wonder why different cars give different results. Could it be a physical difference in the actual wastegates?

Profec B II owners...
Anyone care to post what psi their Zed runs if the Profec is turned off? I'm just wondering what determins this and what effect larger tubs make on the setting i.e. my T-28's. Cheerz :) :)

Removal of the speedo cowling
Thanks mate. Looks a bit of a job though!

Removal of the speedo cowling
I need to get to my rev counter - is it straight forward to remove the cowling that surrounds the dials ....just two bolts underneath? Not got my Zed here so can't check!
-
Wohoo, got my new zed back home at last!
Shaun If your ever planning a trip Chester way in it, let me know as I'd love to get an idea of the potential of a decently tuned Zed!

Oh Well It Didn't Last Long
If you get a fibreglass one, make sure who ever fits it preps it correctly first by rubbing the slight weave effect out of the top surface. I didn't and it cracked within 6 months :(
-
Oh Dear.
Have you checked all your coil pack connectors? Mine old UK one used to do this occasionally when I put my foot down, and is was a slightly cracked connector above one of the the cylinders.

engine not starting help!!!
Is the cambelt intact? Only think that springs to mind is that if the belt had gone and bent some valves, one or more valves might be physically touching the cams and stop them turning. Not sure you would get much movement at all out of the engine though if that was the case. Phew, experts on the case ^^^...I'll bail out

Stag Do Suggestions???
Yes...find a club called Club Essential....I cannot possibly do justice to it with words alone but trust me it is full of the most fantastic girls I have ever seen and they are not shy ;) Not a strip club by the way, just a normal looking nightclub, but the inside looks like an FHM photoshoot!

Just broken down.....
Haven't had time to do the fuel pump ECU bypass yet, however I can hear my pump priming with the ignition so am not sure its that. Did an ECU diagnostic though and got a code 21 .... what is this. I know ignition signal circuit but I thought that was something to do with the PTU. I've swapped my PTU with a fixed S1. Could it be the harness??

Just broken down.....
Tried to fing a green relay in the footwell but couldn't see one - there is no fuse in the area down there that has anything to do with fuel is there? Anyone got a picture of it if so? Disconnected the MAF and no joy, also went into the boot well panel and all pump connections seemed OK in there. The car wants to go, is turning over OK , and the injectors are clicking as they should be, just won't run now. At a loss, will call the AA tomorrow and get it sent somewhere. :(
