I'm currently debating doing away with my boot spoiler and going wingless. What are peoples' thoughts please?

I know that, arguably, the SWB is the better suited platform for this anyway. Just wondered what others' thoughts might be... :)

Well Im sure ALL the usual posters will be along soon with lots of opinions etc etc.

My opinion...your car..your choice.

I made my choice when I did mine.................Here is a pic ......as if you didnt know wot it looks like!!!

Keep the wing. It looks like a lower specification model without.

89 all the way for me too! One of things that made me most happy about refitting!

The reduction in downforce will surprise you! Especially around 130+mph

This was something I wondered about, actually!

Appreciate the responses and opinions, folks. :thumbup1:

That looks lovely FunkySi - much nicer than the 99 spec wing to my eyes at least, has more edge to it. As far as downforce goes, with decent enough tyres my old one was absolutely stable at high speed, soon as I took the spoiler off the back would start wandering around at 130 or so, that was enough for me to put it back on.

Thanks, I fell out of love with the 99 wing in a big way. Looks better on darker cars as it's less obvious.

I feel the original flavour is by far and away the best and most pleasing to the eye and complimentary to the car.

The early spoiler is said to have the least downforce of the three, though. A benefit of the late one is increased visibility, but who cares about that?

I think spoilerless is very 'in' jusdging by instagram. I think it's an American look at the minute.

Most of all, do what you think looks good. Secondly I would consider downforce, I think I get some from mine, I know it is a working aerofoil, I don't know if it gives me 5kgs or 105kgs but my car feels reassuring at speed. And a heavy tool bag makes a difference.

Increased visibility!? Neither the 94+ or 99 spec do anything for visibility. Early ones are completely unobscuring though. :)

89 all the way imho..

I'm with Bri.

Me too.....

Whilst the shorty does get away with being spoiler-less, in comparison the LWB, which needs the spoiler - I still prefer the original '89 spec spoiler on both versions.

But as Pete says, your car, your choice. Who am I to say what's best for someone else....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As an acceptable practice of the OEM+ code of conduct(!), both your options are accredited and approved. [emoji1]

If it was my decision, I’d keep the spoiler and ditch the spats but if you were to smooth the boot then I definitely think the spats have to go for continuity. I’ve always thought that wingless looks best on stanced cars or cars with larger wheels so you could definitely pull it off, there isn’t a bad decision to be made here.

Is there any motivation for change other than the aesthetic? I mean, is the current spoiler damaged etc?

I like the wingless look, I'll be taking my '89 off this summer.

You'll hate it. The 2+2 looks really dowdy without a wing. The previous owner of my Z in Japan removed its original and I tried for a good few years to like it, but just couldn't.

I'll leave this here0be4c4a28170fb4618a47eb0168d1373.jpg

Looks good to me. If it's the style you're after or not is your decision

Do you have any pictures of yours from this time?

Alas, the *******s of Photobucket stole most of my historical photos.

That colour change has taken years off your car Si.

Thanks guys. :)

Yeah, it looks much fresher now and the blue glass made a HUGE but very subtle change to the overall look. Wasn't easy finding good quality used glass, but I think I did well with what I sourced. Even managed to get JDM blue T-tops with absolutely no milkyness along the sides which is a common problem with Zs left outside. I rarely see them in good condition (my originals were near mint, so had to replace them with the best I could find).
