  • And they have arrived !

  • After the oil got contaminated and slightly washed down with fuel the turbos also ceased up. I decided to strip them and do the rebuild myself as the costs for that at the moment to be done profe

  • Well that was a quick trip, planned to stay to Thursday but unfortunately had to come back earlier.   At least Jimmer now has all parts to start an engine build.   Hopefully we wil

Iirc you can remove some bits off the turbo, water lines, then use a socket on a long extension. Pretty sure I took them off with the manifolds complete last time. As suggested plenty of penetrant and heat.

That snapped bit is going to be fun. Have you tried soaking it in penetrant then hitting it with a drift. You may find it ejects it backwards out the hole. I have a set from Machine Mart that allows you to use the Allen bits as a ratchet, that's what you want.

Back to my engine cleanup progress today and managed to get that snapped alan key head out.

After trying many various things it came out using a bit of sparky tape stuck to my finger :)

Managed to get the water pipes out too so I can give the whole area a clean.

Looking at the area I thing there has been a previous water leak as many of the bolts are in bad shape.

Also a rusty looking silicon has been used and I can see it on the water pump too.

Colour scheme on this build is staying the same as the last so I stuck the purple belt and cam covers on.

Depends how they clean up I might use these or I was thinking about just stripping the cam covers that

I had on this engine in the blast cabinet then getting them redone in a fresh purple paint.

Great progress Lee.

As for the oil? I would say it is a result of a slight cam cover gasket leak personally.

It's no fun at all, is it Lee?, but the sense of achievement you get when that last nut comes off is great:thumbup: stick at it bud:thumbup1:

Work has started :)

Still have a stuck turbo and its held on by one bolt, issue I have now is the spanner keeps slipping.

I may need to use some sort of cutting disc and slice the bolt open to get it off.

Which bolt is it lee?

Bit tight that one isn't it, iirc the manifold restricts room around it and the rear housing is in the rear way from below... don't think a nut splitter will get in there. I'd be inclined to heat it cherry red and then hit it with a sharp cold chisel. Frustrating.

The workshop asked to bring my wheels in for a test fitting so had to get them out the loft.

They have been up there for over a year now so after getting them down I dusted off the boxes.

Couldn't help myself; got them out and took a few pics to show them off again :)
