I will be upping the power of my z soon, what is the best tyre (17") to achieve substantial grip.

Ones with tread....this is a very vague post.

What are your requirements, are you tracking your Z? Does it have stock suspension? Are you after tyre size recommendations too? Do you use your car in the wet?

It may sound a stupid question if you use your car in the wet but Si never takes his car out in the wet!

Something like that!

I run Pirelli P-Zero on both my cars and they're fantastic, the Z especially.

Hi all, car is only ever used in the wet if im caught in a rain storm whilst out, I hate driving it on damp or wet roads, it will be used on weekends on dry days only, occasionally on the drag strip. what im looking for is a set of really sticky tyres that will minimise spinning up the rear wheels when chav beating whilst on public roads.

dry roads track use summer the best you can get toyo r888 once warm its like you car it glued to the road. but not so good in the winter, or good all years round MICHELIN Ps2 or even bettter MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2

falken 453's, the rubber is to hard had them had them on a porsche for about 3 days then removed them

toyo t1r was good tyre very gippy not sure if you can still get them

I had Falken FK452s on my old wheels, they're ok as a mid-range brand. They last a long time, but at the detriment of grip, but they're ok. I certainly couldn't push my Z around the twisties anywhere near as well as I can with P-Zero. The difference is very noticeable.

I'm sure the T1R are still in production but they have either changed the compound, or the other manufacturers compound has had far superior development as the reviews and tests have seen them gradually falling off the chart in the last few years.

The Michelin's are always a safe bet, very good performance from those and the R888 is arguably the grippiest road legal tyre money can buy! However, they're both at expensive. I've been using the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2 for the last couple of years and I am very impressed with dry and damp grip considering the relatively lower cost of the tyre, better VFM in my opinion.

It's also worth noting that, with tyres as grippy as the R888, especially on track use where you will be giving it a full beans hammering round corners, the extra cornering ability can cause devastating oil starvation issues due to the sump design.

i like hanging the tail out often so the r888s are a bit to grippy i need 2 sets of wheels so i can have a set for the summer

last a long time due to the rubber being to hard ^

I have Bridgestone s001 I do have fairly wide 18's on the rear, but compared to the tyres that were on it before they are excellent loads of grip off the line on the 1/4 miles, usable in the wet but not great, great through the corners and controllable when they do let go.

Thanks for that feedback on the S001s mate......

I am looking to replace all 4 tyres on my Zed in the next couple of weeks - 265/35/18 rears and 235/40/18 fronts. I have been quoted c£440 all in (fully fitted) for those Bridgestones; a mere c£380 if I want to kill myself and fit Avon ZZ5s - or stick with tried and tested Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2s for c£480. I have Conti SC5s at the mo - which have also been great but are coming in at c£550-£600.

I reckon I'll be going back to the Goodyears again....

I thought I'd bring this up as I might have to eat those words....

....A friend of mine has a Merc E350cdi Coupe which has been re-mapped to about 312bhp and over 550lb/ft of torque. He has had constant trouble putting the power down; and has tried various tyres including MB fitment Contis and Pirellis. He's just had a set of the new Avon ZZ5s fitted and there's no more spin - just grip and performance!! After my experience with the old Avon ZZ3s on my red Zed, perhaps I was to hasty to condemn the new ZZ5......

.......So based on my mate's recommendation - and the fact they are a steal at £380 for the set - I'm going to give them a try...

They're being fitted on Saturday so I'll let you know how I get on. If they are good, I've got a bargain. If not, I can always offload them on Fleabay and go back to the Goodyears:wink:

Continental Sport Contact 5 on mine.... Very happy with the results. Great in all weather so far! :)

I have to agree - I've got them on the SLK and the Zed.... The Zed's are almost down to the tread wear bars, but they still cling on........ Although the back end was a little wayward on the icy Chiltern roads last Tuesday morning:oops:

Don't think I'd swap them for anything else now. Fantastic levels of grip and they are also a good looking tyre also :)

Personally can't stand Pirelli's, regardless of how good they are in the dry (pilot sports are better imho) the last set of p-zeros I had on the z were frankly dangerous in the wet. Never ever will I have a car shod with Pirelli!

Potenza S02 is still the best tyre I've ever had on a Z, but ultra rare now. I'd love to run Pilot Sport 2's, but I don't have a spare grand that I'd need for my tyre sizes.

Running Falkens at the moment. As mentioned, a good mid range tyre. Don't have the most outright grip, but the manner they behave when they lose grip is progressive and predictable in my experience.

So im going to put some new tyres on the rear of my car. I drive it in the dry, and on occasions the wet knowing what the British weather is like. I'm always very wary about in the wet and never trust the back end won't kick out of I put the foot down. After reading this thread am I right in thinking the continental SC5's are the tyre to go for for wet and dry performance. my wheel size is 245/35/19 and on AGX adjustable suspension.

Or better still the conti sc6 for virtually the same money

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I'm looking to get some new tyres for back of mine.

Car is around the 460bhp mark and running 255/35/18 Pzeros at the back.

Just finished a wet track day and have to say I was shocked at the lack of grip from the rear (tyres have 4.5mm)

What tyres would you guys recommend for all year round with driving including track days?

I am going to buy 265/25/18's

Thanks,

Adam

460hp on a wet track in a GT car and your surprised at a lack of grip [emoji848].

Going to stupidly low profile tyres just makes them rock hard.

A tyre needs some give in it to achieve grip, also your suspension setup has a huge impact on grip.

Next time make sure the track is dry :D

It was dry Friday and Sunday just not Saturday . My friends M3 had loads of traction and thats 1500KG

I turned the boost down to 10psi later afternoon which is around 350 bhp (by my estimates ) I had was oversteer everywhere still.

I was driving smoothly as well, not chopping it in etc

The car has a set of HSD dualtech coilovers , HICAS removed Drift works arms and adjustable front camber arms. It is lowered 2cm all round.

My 350z has been taken on the track .... also a GT car and it certainly didn't behave like that , I was running conti sport contacts which felt great.

Any tyre recommendations welcome.

Cheers,

Adam

Sorry I meant 265/35/18's

I second what Chris said, pressures are very important, particularly in the wet. Then suspension set up can make a huge difference, you want some compliance in the car.

I like vredestien vorties.

Avoid yokohamas.

Toyos are good.
