I guess I am obsessed with everything to do with the 300zx thats why I and other members are here as enthusiastic followers of the Z32 I know some members are less enthusiastic when there Z is not on the road due to faults or rebuilds but when you start putting them down you will get a reaction from members who love there Z's.

You have to love your Z and speak up for it and dont ever talk it down.

To most die-hard 300zx enthusiasts, the Z is not just 'one of those cheap fast cars'. To many, the car was a childhood dream car, I include myself in that. I've wanted a Z32 since it was launched. Most people that buy them now generally aren't looking for a 'cheap fast car', that stuff went through the millstone 5-10 years ago now.

that's great then you got one for the reason you loved the car so what it worth should not matter I think its due to people liking the idea they have a expensive car I have been down that road many times before I have just changed my mind I got a car due to liking it not due the cost of it

Yes it does matter!!! How do I know what to insure it for!?

Just trying to get you converted into a Z loving member Dan

gary I do love the cars hence why I have spent so much time working on it and that's is due to love I promise just don't get the whole idea of wanting the z to worth loads of money I have the car for really liking it regardless of its value if that makes sense

For me it is simply a nice added extra that my car may be worth something, other than the ENORMOUS emotional attachment I have for it.

If I, or any other forum member, had to unfortunately sell their car, after unforseen changes in circumstances, it would be nice to sell high rather than low if possible, a small compensation for the money you will never get (or expect) to get back.

My Capri I sold months before prices went up 3 fold, I wish I hadn't done that, I missed out on thousands.

My car is designed to impress and please no body but ME. I don't give a toss what anyone thinks of it as I drive by, if it makes someone smile or shout "give it a rev" well brilliant, I have cheered the world up a bit, the LAST thing on my mind is people saying "he must have some money about him."

So Dan's saying about a "click" (sic) on here regarding disagreeing with a viewpoint, yet he's the first to chime in on this kind of thread, saying "Stop being obsessed with value - it's a cheap car!"

The primary purpose of this forum, I imagine, is for enthusiasts to come together and appreciate a car that they love. There'll always be those who don't share that philosophy and that's absolutely fine.

The bit that isn't fine is when the "non-enthusiasts" start trying to shove down the enthusiasts' throats that their cars are cheap and the value is unimportant!

Don't like the subject of the thread? Don't post in it.

Simple.

Dan wants to view his car as cheap and fun transport. Cool.

FunkySi wants to view his car as something he loves passionately and a future investment. That's cool too.

One of these people is bothered about value, but doesn't try to force that opinion on others.

The other person couldn't care less about value... and wants/expects everyone else to feel the same way...

One of these people is going to be disappointed........ ;)

I agree with this 100%

I don't care atall if people agree or not I am just saying to me it does not matter when you love something its for the reason of loving it love has nothing to do with money in any shape of form

Glad you still love it Dan and hope you get it sorted soon. As for value it is important to keep an eye on the prices of our cars and to talk about it on the UK's z32 300zx forum. This club has the biggest ownership of these cars and the member base can influence the value of them by setting the bar high when selling. In that way you will get a buyer who will treat there new Z with care and respect and not thrash it as a cheap fast run around. With values starting to rise they will be cared for by owners who want to keep them in top condition but if values are low then they would be uncared for and go out of existence. So in my opinion lets talk about values of the 300zx and watch it grow into a desired Jap supercar which we as a club respect and love.

Long live the Z :thumbup1:

ok then i wont use cheap from now on can i say good value for money cars then. i do love the z buy the time am done with mine will be one of the best out there and that's for love of the car i just like the idea of a good value fast car nowday having spend more cash than i like the think about on expensive fast cars i have just come to learn that expensive fast cars are not so good and value fast cars are a better buy

:wack:

I swear I done see tha twee before

Because....

Increasing value helps with declared value and subsequent insurance payout. If you have sunk xxxxx into your zed then some oik crashes into it at it has a market value if £1k which was certibatly the case a few years ago unless you managed to get an agreed value that's all your going to get. Higher market value, better chance of greater renumeration.

Overal market price, particularly the top end is a good indication of the cars profile. As an owners club part of our interests is to see the car WE believe to be a great piece of machinery experience the notetiriatry that it deserves, increasing prices indicate increased desirability, ie it's going well. Thats a massive subject and constantly on going. The Z32 has a bad rep that needs shaking, last two years it's having that rep well and truly shaken, that is in part reflected by the increased monetary value of them.

The more the Z32 is worth and respected the more likely it is to be looked after, by that I don't just mean garage queens but cars that are used aswel not just an ornament to grow mould on falling apart on some chavs drive. Maintaince costs are forcing ownership away from those who can't afford to run and maintain them properly and ensures that they go to or remain with people who can and do. That is occuring, the numbers of wreckers is falling and the numbers of quality well maintained zcars is in the rise. With the average standard being higher and the average quality higher the reputation is higher. Most peoples experiences with Z32s that don't like them is with with beat up examples, you won't get a good impression that way. The new owners and older owners of these good example will be prepared to invest higher as the car is worth more, it's easier to swallow spending £3k to fix a car worth £10k than one worth £1k.

In short, price is only important if you wish to sell. However it has other offsets and is a good indication of the cars public profile which is a key interest in any car club. Also it's not a boy racer car  boy racers can't insure let alone run a z32 they by Saxos, still yes and may upgrade if you consider is that to a civic maybe one with vtec yo.

Enjoy your zed art look after it and remember it's an appricating classic.

I don't think many people on here have bought a 300zx because its a cheap fast car that's all they can afford.

Most on here run them as hobby cars and run a far more expensive run-about be it a nearly new Ford Focus or a nice high end Merc.

They own them because the 300zx 'does it' for them. Its a car they love and have been interested in for many years.

I myself own a much newer car (it was bought brand new) to deal with the daily business, I own my 300zx because I have loved them since the day they were released. I had a little book of sports cars back in the early 90's and under 'N' was one of these beauts! I was probably about 12ish and thought they were the best looking car about. Even compared to other exotica in that same book. I still do!

Sure, I can afford a nice late generation Astra VXR or Focus ST. Maybe look at some thing nice from the BMW or Audi range, but I choose my pride and joy to be a 25 year old Nissan sports car. It is testing my patience though it has to be said!

that's was my point before hobby cars are due to liking them not about money

Be interesting to know what you guys posting on this thread actually value your cars at. Is it for insurance purposes or what you feel you'd achieve as a sale price if you did indeed sell?

Some great cars in this club, and in my opinion it is the OEM+ examples that will command a premium. Obviously there are a couple of exceptions like Bob and James' track cars. Those are in a different category entirely, but both stunning in looks and performance.

Daffy.

I do find it hard to value now after seeing some Z's being for sale at big big money. I paid just over 3k for mine three years ago but would need to double that to get the same today (if one could be found) and at 6k I still might be undervaluing it.

Based on that, wouldn't it be nice to know that one day soon, your good vfm fast car could potentially be worth a decent sum? No one is obsessing over this but it's nice to know that the evidence is there to support that we're heading in that direction.

100% honest i really don't mind atall whats its worth now or in 10 years i really don't care due to buy expensive fast cars in the past now i like value cars like the 300zx tt low price pretty fast its the way to go

Gary you have definitely undervalued yours in my opinion if I owned yours there is no way let it go for 6k

To be honest I don't think it'll be long before 10k plus Zeds become an acceptable price tag.

To my annoyance, I still don't think they will command the price tags that R32/33 GTR/supra/rx7 are commanding, but I think the gap will close up from what I think was a ridiculous price difference.

And like Joely, FungalBumpkin and few others, I have no plans of ever selling the zed, but insurance value is proving a bit of an issue for me. I know the absolute minimum I would value my zed at, but with some sort of provenance in the marketplace for that value, it's getting harder to get insurers to agree higher see values.

Si, Joel, Gary... Have you all got agreed values?

Hi Nick mine has an agreed value of three and a half thousand but that will change before I take it out of the garage for the Summer.
