Um! Would like to know why so fixated on the rise in the price of ur Zs?

 

Didn't get my Z because of price!

I imported it because it looked clean & tidy

Keep ur UK model but my grey import is great!

I paid £6000 for a UK model ten years ago! U get a ukZ for £6000? Ur avin a laugh

Love my import love my Z!

Don't care it's a Nissan! It's a great looking, boy racer kick arse car!

I have said this many times is does not matter whats it worth. people on here seem to think there cars are worth loads its does not matter how much is worth there a cheap arse casr that a fun that's the end off it

it does matter for insurance purposes as said by stephen above I am not planning to sell my car but i was burnt via my tt been written off in the crash in june (which wasn't my fault) but the muppet in the focus wasn't insured anyway beside the point if the prices keep rising then the bog standard market value will rise enough that normal insurance would cover the average zed. that said i will be getting agreed value classic insurance on my new one but if the market value rises enough it will make it much easier for people to obtain a high agreed value on there car if for some reason anything should happen to it as its just crazy to me to have a car insured normally ie market value zed which u have sunk say 8k plus in to. and just to add on from above post by Art213 I am proud to own a nissan great car if i wanted to i could have bought a lotus elise or a porsche but frankly don't like the elise yes its quick and does handle really well but look at it looks like a fancy tigra Proper hairdressers car

And as for a porsche its just a bit too much of a penis extension costs too much and really not that exciting :tt2:

I think it has something more to do with the fact what we already have here. We got access to the grey import cars, the availability of the Skyline meant the Z was considered by many as the poor relation; personally I've always wanted a Z32, I could quite easily afford a Skyline, but the looks, noise and exclusivity have made the Z32 more desirable over the Skyline.

 

Z32s in Europe are pretty much without rival within Nissan, most of them, with the exception of a small handful of American imports are Twin Turbos. There are very few Skylines in Europe.

 

The markets are very different.

I respect the Skyline - but would not buy one myself either, for the same reasons. Z32 looks special, all Skylines (bar the R34 perhaps) look "ordinary" almost Cortina-like (IMO) and despite being more than affordable, I just would not waste my hard-earned cash on one!!

 

The Z32 will certainly rise in value - when only the best, enthusiast maintained and cherished examples, remain. And it looks like that might just be happening. Slowly maybe, but it is happening.....

who are you with Joely?.. I need start ringing round soon get idea's on prices my insurance isn't cheap anymore as lost my no claims in june so back square 1.

 

I've been with fluxdirect for the last couple of years on a classic policy, the system is really quite good but I guess the true test of these companies would be in the unfortunate event of a claim. There's a fairly substantial list but I declare every last modification, no matter how minor or "visible" it is and find with most companies on these specialist policies, it makes no difference to the quote.

I would also recommend you get a quote from Footman James as they are also very competitive. I very nearly made the switch to them this year, but didn't for a few reasons however, I feel that the FJ policy is possibly a better package.

My best advice would be to shop around, spend a few hours one day with a list of at least 5 companies that you've shortlisted and get quotes.

Nice one cheers mate yeh i guess the best test is when something happens lol and I will be listing absolutely everything don't want in the unfortunate event something happens for them to be able to wriggle out because i forgot to list stainless brake lines or big brakes lol, i'm going to have a go in week will get a rough guestimate but not proper as still not sure every mod will have on car when finished need see how the money pot go's I think its got a hole in it lol.

Are the prices on the rise because there are simply less of them about?

 

For instance, when I was first looking for one a couple of years ago, there were plenty to be had on eBay or Gumtree and the like. I paid £1800 for my original black TT because my budget wasn't that great - it was a very clean car with some subtle, tasteful mods at the time (wheels, interior) but hadn't sold on the Bay so I agreed an offer with the seller. I'm guessing it hadn't sold because it was "a cheap Zed."

 

Just over a year later, I advertised it for sale for £1500 with a full 12 months MOT and was bombarded with PMs and emails from people wanting to buy it!

 

As I said in another thread, the majority of the really rough examples appear to have been bought and stripped for spares, which takes a big chunk out of the market. That mostly leaves "enthusiast cars" which should, realistically, command a higher price anyway.

 

But if these cars aren't for sale? What do people do then...?

 

Case in point: yesterday's debacle over the Pistonheads Zed! 2 years ago, the only people who would've really considered paying £1k for a Z32 that had issues (or probable issues) with the cooling system, engine and bodywork would've been breakers... today though, we see that multiple people can and will go nuts for a car like that because the cheap Zeds have all but vanished!

 

I'm guessing that this will be the beginning of the end of the attitude that the Z32 is a "cheap, fast car" because they're starting to cease being cheap. That should eliminate the owners who simply want to thrash them around till they explode and just leave (predominantly) the owners who view them as an aspiring classic and want to care for them. Which will drive the prices up more anyway! :)

 

I mean, can you imagine the scrabbling on here if FunkySi (for example) was to put his Zed up for sale...??! :lol:

 

I also think that, in the near future, this forum will become the main place that they will be advertised for sale. Because the owners will want their cars to move on to a like-minded individual, rather than Joe Public off eBay.

I'm one of those who wants to care for one, but my current budget simply won't stretch to much. That's why I wanted the one yesterday so badly, as at that price even I had enough money left out of my budget to fix it, or at least deal with over time. :(

Id be interested to see the market reaction if FunkySi decided to sell his car with a 5 figure price tag. It would be great to see what sort of interest would be generated and how many genuinely interested buyers there would be in that price bracket. I think it's early days to successfully command those prices but I don't think it's far away.

Haha ^ I think there are plenty of cars on here that are worth £10'000. I wouldn't feel ripped off if I payed that for Si's car, or Gary's or your's Joel. Those were just the first few that came to mind.

 

Wether they are 'worth' that is subjective at the end of the day, but if you can pay £10'000 on an average bmw or a new hyundai I10 or a highly strung RX7, you should be happy driving away in a nice Zed.

I have no idea why every one is obsessed with how much the z32 is worth lets face it I bet most on here got there car due to it being so cheap inc my self if you want to say you have a car that cost loads then get a car that cost loads just enjoy the car for what it it a cheap fun car to play out in and tune up for fun its that simple the sooner you guys except the z32 its a cheap fun car the better just go out drive it have fun forget about how much its worth it ready does no matter atall, unless you buy and sold the 300zx for a living witch 95% on here don't then how really cares you have a nice CHEAP car to pay in move on and for get how much there worth dudes :rockon:

No one is 'obsessed' with the values of them; this is one thread of a small number, it's only 3 pages...you're free not to view it if you have such distain for a discussion on the market values of these cars. It's a point of interest for many and always will be for those that buy and maintain cars that are slowly turning into classics.. The 'reasons' also are laid out within this very thread; insurance purposes and resale. Whether you like it or not, the market value of a retro or classic vehicle is ALWAYS going to be a discussion point.

The biggest mistake as you hint to above Joely is that the value of cars is not what they are advertised at. No one really knows the true value i.e. what someone would buy one for as sold prices are not advertised but I suspect they are around 10% lower than the advertised prices on average.

 

But it is the way of things as sports cars age, they become rarer, good condition ones hold a premium (in most cases, there are maligned sports cars that will never appreciate) but its not unexpected that Z32s will go up in price. I sold my 02 plate VX220 for £7750 two years ago, I would be looking at paying around £8500-£9000 to buy it back now.

You would need to keep up with 300zx prices for insurance values. I for one will be increasing the value of my Z as it is undervalued now if I crashed it or it was stolen as I would not be able to replace it with the money from the insurance company pay out. Its not a cheap fun car anymore its a very sought after classic Jap supercar.

that's was the reason I got a 300zx after I sold the Porsche and lotus I had the idea of just buying a cheap fun car I seen a z32 for £3k and thought o that's a cheap fun car I will buy it for the reason of it being very cheap and a fun that's was the appeal of the 300 to me if it had been 10k then I would never have got on cant you see what am trying to say here fun fast cars can be cheap and don't have to to cost the earth

How "fun and fast" is your cheap Z32 these days, Dan...? Hasn't it been up on blocks for, like, forever...? Spent much tarting it up yet...?

 

The whole point is that these cars, whilst once undeniably cheap to purchase, will very likely end up not being cheap to buy anymore. Which, in my eyes, can only be a good thing :)

yes the car was cheap and the reason I got the car yes I have spend a lot on the car now but its just a hobbie car I never planned on doing the car up when I got it just happened but I don't expect to get any of that money back its just for fun I really don't mind driving round in a car that people look at and say there one of them cheap 300zx tt it just don't matter to me

To most die-hard 300zx enthusiasts, the Z is not just 'one of those cheap fast cars'. To many, the car was a childhood dream car, I include myself in that. I've wanted a Z32 since it was launched. Most people that buy them now generally aren't looking for a 'cheap fast car', that stuff went through the millstone 5-10 years ago now.
