So its finally happening after been off the road for well over a year the zed is on Target for its refurbishment.

Last year I started with doing all the underbody suspension stuff to make the ride more stable and after that

I decided I wanted to do a full strip down to the bare shell and start from scratch to create a show quality z32.

After much bad luck and many thousands of pounds wasted on rotted zeds i'm cracking on with the original plan.

So as a quick update i'll post some older picks followed over the next few weeks by an overall progress report.

Starting off with how she was when I first purchased her 3 years ago until the state she is now then showing the

strip down and all the bad luck I've had.

So here she is as I bought her :

Regarding your video and the high pitched noise...it sounds like the alternator bearing. Mine failed earlier this year and the initial noise was identical.

One of the few design issues with our cars is that the water pipes sit directly above the alternator so if there have been any leaks during the life of the car, the alternator gets an early bath which dries out the bearings.

Hope his helps.

Stunning car by the way, top work.

Good call  My alternator bearing was making a high pitched noise also and I got it refurbished. Check the power steering pump also Lee.

Crap, sorry to read about this - every fresh build has its little niggles, hope you catch up with all of them so you can enjoy driving it soon mate! :)

Spent a few hours last night pulling off the old brake discs and callipers to fit the new ones over this weekend.

But bugger me it was a hard job as the back left side decided to have a collapsed hand brake shoe which jammed on.

After 30 minutes of struggling with it we finally got it off and repairs the shoe but putting the wee pin clips back in.

New discs all round and just need to fit the painted callipers.

Just reading between the lines Lee :whistling:.

Did you not have the little drilled and threaded holes on the disc hub? Wind a bolt in and off the pop? Or were they that seized?

yeh,

We eventually did that but still took a while as the brake shoe basically fell off inside and was wedged at an angle.

Oh you gotta love stuff like that! The five minute job that becomes a three hour task because of one pissy little bolt etc.

saw Lees car yesterday. looking and sounding awesome.

final push of the last few man hours, and you can change your username to chesire cat for the rest of the year, as thats what you will look like :-)

the sacrifices look well and truly worth it

Swapped over the faulty power steering solenoid today.

After the solenoid was off would you believe the fluid was draining for nearly 20 minutes.

I did removed the top cap but that barely helped it move along.

After it was drained I fitted the new solenoid courtesy of art123 and refilled the system with oil.

So had a few electrical issues needing resolving with regards to an immobiliser and extra cabling

I installed and after 20 minutes if fiddling running cables I decided it was much better minus a dash.

So out it came; again :

Also took the opportunity to properly route some cables from the boost controller.

All in I think I can do this blind folded nearly as the dash was off and on again within an hour or so.

Have you read about those Fram filters? If not I suggest you do, I recon it will be coming off.

Surprising how much power steering fluid there is in the system isn't it?

Have a read, the paper part has a habit of disintegrating and killing your engine, amongst other things.

For the sake of £12 its not worth the risk I guess.

Stick with a genuine filter from Nissan like this ?

Yeah, genuines are cheap enough, K&N etc, just reputable brands. Fairly sure last time I brought a genuine one from Nissan it was like a tenner.

Yes and yes.....

......Get on the 'phone to Mike at MJP! After all the work you have done Lee, don't take chances with an inferior oil filter. OEM all the way mate - the only credible alternative (supposedly) is the Wix item!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Plan a few touch ups with the caps but I think the reservoir needs a clean as much as changing the fluid in it.

Also, that brake fluid really needs a flush dude, it's almost black! Due to the pristine detail of your engine bay, you brake fluid reservoir lid looks like it needs a spruce up and have you considered the oem battery box to hide that eyesore varta? [emoji106]
