  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

A good few weeks later than planned, due to all the bad weather we have had recently but finally got her over to Kraftwork.10CC855F-7F1A-4061-AA0B-268C008EFD36.jpg

Since it's been many, many months...

A thorough cleaning inside and out. These Saturdays are becoming tough on my back.

Today I shall be trying to find out what I broke yesterday on the way home from the 'Ace Cafe' meet.......

It was lovely to see the die hard group who braved the traffic, cloudy weather and the salt.....:whistling:

I had a good catch up and laugh with a great bunch...... well worth the drive..... Thanks guys and girls.......

I now have the ABS light coming on, a grinding noise from passenger side as I drive and a weird 'boing noise' when I brake hard and stop.... guessing seized calliper.....

but will know more later.....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

One of life's pleasures Gary - driving with the targa's off on a cold dry day.

Most definitely Andrew and its like driving a different car with the roof of. Stopped at the BP station for some high octane fuel and everybody and I mean everybody was checking out the Z. Love it

My original radiator finally gave up the ghost last week and has started leaking. Only small though and it appears to be leaking from one of the end tanks.

Decided on an original replacement as the stock radiators are fairly good and wanted to keep all the bracketry etc. OE originals are around £400 but I did a bit of research and found out that Koyo do OE replacement radiators and I believe Mishimoto do too. We all know that Koyo are decent quality so bought one just to see what it was like.

After having a good look around it and counting out the core numbers, I was very impressed. End tank castings are high quality and so is the core. All the fixings and mount points are 100% identical.

I'm not one for pattern parts, I'd rather buy original, but this is made by a high quality manufacturer to a great standard and thought I'd get one just to see what it looked like. Very impressed.

Please please tell me that this is from a previous hack job that's now being corrected....

Judging by the repairs that have been carried out, the quality doesn't look much better.

I'd be pulling that out of there if it was me. That repair job on the sill is 'mot welding' at best.

Sorry mate, not trying to be an ass, but please don't be convinced they're doing a decent job as that's pretty poor quality (the angle iron on the wings aside).

The plate was on there when I bought it. He has sorted that. The sills were completely opened up and internal rust cut out and replaced. The arches were also derusted and repaired. He sent me over 100 pictures of everything he did, I just added a few select images here for people to look out (and as it turns out, to mock). I know it's been done properly and will last long enough for my plans with the car. No car lasts forever especially if the previous owners mistreated it (in this case didn't do anything) and you are trying to rectify the problems. It's taken me nearly three years of saving, working on the car and paying people I trust. Sure it's not spotless like some of the cars on here and never will be. I have accepted that. Mocking people for their hard work and love for a car does seem unfair especially as none of you know anything close to the full story or state of the car and doesn't give off a good impression for this club.

I'm not 'mocking' and my intention is not 'mock' as that's thoughtless piss taking (something I also have experience in), what I do see here however is not good repair and I'm hoping that it may open your eyes to it. The sills especially; you mention it's been opened up and whatnot, but that's a monumental amount of filler still in the sill. That entire section should have either been removed completely or reshaped before being welded otherwise you'll either have a badly shaped sill or a sill with an inch of filler in it. The welding itself is low quality also. It's not 'mocking', I just hope that you are happy with it, because it doesn't look like a quality repair job I'm afraid and if you've coughed up a good amount of savings on it, I'd be questioning whether what you'd spent was worth it.

Nobody is mocking, but those patches over the arch have been placed over a corroded inner arch, you can see this in the pics.
Sounds more like concern than mocking to me.

This is exactly what it is.

I've been messed around by folk who have claimed they knew what they were doing (poor quality paint jobs) and I'd hate to see someone else stung by poor quality work. It's upsetting and depressing.

When I bought the car, most of it was filler. I've spent the past three years trying to get rid of it, but as I can't shell out thousands to get it done in one go it's a work in progress. The arches have been cleared out and treated, I have the pictures. My mocking comment was a little harsh I will apologise, however I feel that unless you are part of the little clique on here, you are not taken seriously. I am here not to own the best car or the prettiest car or spend the most money on car (god knows I can't when my mortgage is £2400/month) I am here for the love of Nissan's, that what ultimatly brings us together. We need to remember that.

I am happy with the workmanship as the company I am using do work on all manor of classic cars and I had to wait four weeks for an appointment. Maybe it's not as good as your local welder but they are becoming like hen's teeth down here. Maybe the work isn't up to your standard, but this is my car and it is the way I want it. I respect people's alloy wheel choice or bumper kit because at the end of the day being different is better than being the same.

My car has about 3 years left in it due to previous owners lack of maintenance, I have accepted that and am trying to make it the best I can with the funds I have.

I think you've missed the point a little. It's nothing to do with what one person likes or dislikes, it's purely an observation based on viewable evidence, it isn't an opinion on style or taste. Rust needs to be removed not 'treated', especially when it works its way from the inside out.

Nothing to do with a clique either, it was a strong concern that you'd spent hard earned money on a what looks to be a below average welding job.

Good luck with saving the car though. We all support you, but as a club, there are always going to be people who become concerned with elements of repair jobs and just want the best for their owners. I know someone who's going through a court case at the moment for sub standard welding work.

Nice! I bought the Mishimoto (in 2016, I think).... Yours looks a more OEM fitment though; as the Mishi is definitely a chunkier upgrade. Plus, I searched everywhere for a Nissan OEM - but the UK spec auto version is no longer made. It wasn't worth buying a pattern J-spec auto rad, as I'd have lost the better auto-box oil cooling facility. I ended up installing a Mishimoto 'box cooler too - another expense, but probably worth it:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
