  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Out and about after 5 months. Perfect!

Only issue is my new dash cam won't really charge in the cigarette lighter; it's always been a bit fussy about positioning. Is it worth trying to clean up the assembly, or just buy a new one?

Cigarette lighter sockets have always been hit and miss and often people wiggle the plug and blow the fuse, which means their satnav is now dead and due to the fact people have no ability to find their way around anymore end up stuck somewhere forever.......

We replace alot of cigarette lighter sockets for twin USB ports now which is pretty much the standard now for most electronics.

A cigarette lighter socket somehwere in the boot can still be useful for 12v outputs for things like tyre compressors and the like.

USB isn't a bad idea. Do you know of a decent one that will fit?

Currently checking my IACV and giving it a good clean and lube...... Thanks JeffTT for the pointers to curing my stalling issue....

UPDATE:- Well I found the stalling issue by the looks of it..... Twas the AAC connector!..... The plug connectors were opened up and not making constant contact with the 2 pins in the socket on the valve.....

I cleaned the 2 pins as they were slightly corroded, cleaned the socket, closed the 2 female connectors slightly and sprayed some contact cleaner on it all....

She now does not stall when stopping at junctions...... makes me a lot less nervous to drive.....

Looks like it is time to sort out all the connectors and 25 year old loom. I have already replaced the injector and coil pack connectors & the TPS switch connector plugs with brand new ones.....

Now it is time to source the rest of them from the engine bay and solder in new ones......

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Signed up for the 2018 London to Brighton Classic Car rally - 3rd June from Greenwich Park

Also....while searching through a large tin of old nuts and bolts....I came across this....

Must be a spare key from one of my previous Zeds....could be for the 240z or the 260z...looks a bit old to have been for one of the 280zxs or my Z31 300zx...:confused1:

25 years and older? Wouldn't mind doing that myself!

Picked up a few more parts from Ryukyu Nissan here in Chatan in Okinawa Prefecture. It's definitely a very cool feeling picking these up from a Japanese Nissan dealership.

They're just the clutch and brake non return valves, nothing exciting. They were however a grand total of about £20 the pair. They're £35 each in the UK.

Turns out that the mirror glass I had, I took the last passenger side one in Japan (RHD non heated) and it's now gone NLA. I think the heated ones are now hard to come by.

Sign up quick Simon...not too many spaces left....it's not the 'Veteran' rally....it is for Classic and Sports cars over 25 years....so the 300ZX will be among the youngest!

I have before 08:30....it was that or 10:30-11:30....and thought I'd get to Brighton earlier for a good parking spot

That’s a shame, it would’ve been great to travel together but it will still be nice to catch up. I have booked the 10:30-11:30 slot as that’s the only slot left and I have spoken to Simon who is going to have a look in the morning when he wakes up (Japan time) and will hopefully book it up too.

Test fitted my new twin z type 2 roof spoiler.

Ooh you posh git you.. how did you order it, just directly with the company? I quite fancy the lip for the 99 spec bumper.

what's the fixing like and how is it fixed?

I introduced my Z to a very good friend of mine’s Mach1 Mustang and the Z just quivered in submission. The Mustang was like “wha’ you looki’ at punk?”!

Some years ago I had the opportunity to buy a notchback one, lovely car with a 305. Still kick myself over that.

I went out to get some detailing supplies with my Halfords voucher from the COTY competition (thanks again guys! [emoji5]).

I quite like using the Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax on the Zed and the daily drives as it gives some decent temporary protection between washes and is so easy to use. Once washed and towel dried, there are always those fine specs of water left behind and it shows up particularly well on a black car, so as a drying aid, I then use a fresh clean microfibre cloth and give the car a Quik once over! It’s just a spray on, wipe off affair but the beauty of this stuff is that you can spray it on anything. It won’t discolour plastics or rubbers, in fact it nourishes them and helps to keep them supple and UV protected. This is generally my go-to LSP for a normal wash routine, it has a reasonable wax content for its price so does the job I want it to.

I have been using Autoglyms Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner for a while now and although it’s a perfectly adequate shampoo, I prefer something a bit more sudsy (especially on the Z). For this reason after my pre wash in snow foam or TFR, I usually snow foam again and leave it on when I go in with the wash mitt. I’ve been meaning to get a new product as the BSC has pretty much run out now and I was going to shoot for the well reviewed Bilt Hamber Autowash but as I was in Halfords, I though I’d try a bottle of the UHD Shampoo and see how it fairs.

I also grabbed a couple of 5 litre bottles of ionised water that I use for my concentrate APCs and clay lubes etc.

Agree on the quick wax - I rarely use a proper one anymore!

I'm actually looking for some decent wheel cleaning and waxing products. Any suggestions?

I use nothing more than soap and water on the Z wheels. If you’re anything like me your wheels won’t generally get “3 months of grim winter use” dirty? Around once a year I’ll give them a thorough clean and then wax them (I usually use Collinite 476s) and then go over them with a sealant. From then on, the brake dust, road grime and any dirt just falls off with your standard shampoo wash. The only times I find it needs extra is when you get the odd stubborn tar spot during the summer, then I break out the Autosmart Tardis in very small quantities (awesome product!).

If it’s on a heavier use car, the same rule can be applied but step up the cleaner to something more aggressive. I find the AG clean wheels is a nice mild cleaner for regular use on protected wheels but if they’re properly dirty and not really protected, I would recommend Bilt Hamber Autowheel. It has great cleaning power but as a trade off will likely strip most of the protection so only really needed if you don’t keep on top of it.

There are literally 100’s off wheel cleaning products that will all no doubt do a great job but I don’t have experience with many of them so just choose something that suits your need.

Just got back from a snowy drive to see Keith & picked up a few parts he's sprayed for me. Impul skirts & door fillers for the lwb, & boot lid for the swb. Manage to prise the central 20 spoiler out of his hands too.
