  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Yup, I agree. I probably went too far. My views may have seemed 'forced' due to tyres being the most safety critical part of the car.

Anyway, it was a good discussion either way. :)

Nobody doubts your commitment to the club or the Z cars Si, you are an asset here, I love following your exploits and build, it's just that sometimes diplomacy and tactfulness goes out the window with you:lol:

You are extremely passionate and that's a good thing for us:thumbup1:

Yup, correct.

I do look and cringe sometimes and say 'Oooh, I maybe should have worded that a little differently'.

Personally I agree that tyres are a a safety feature, but the main feature of any vehicle and or situation, is the tool behind the wheel.

I think that covering enough mileage in my driving history to have been to and from the moon a few times, kinda warrants my driving ability.

I don't drive on a track anymore, I don't think I'd do particularly well at it nowdays due to age and disabilities but I drive on the road with that in mind at all times.

I've personally experienced death and horrific injuries myself and I've witnessed more scenes than I'd like to ever remember over the years, so believe me when I say that safety is very important to me.

If you'd like to see how important other peoples lives are to me, this is the result of an incident on the M1 a few months ago.

A car with a young family lost control after trying to avoid an idiot in an audi who cut them up at high speed.

At the point where they lost control, I was behind them in my truck weighting 40 tonnes and travelling at 56mph.

I now had a choice. Either risk taking this family out and probably killing them all, or risk my own life to save them.

I decided in that split second decision that their lives were more important and this was the result..

I swerved off the road and hit a bridge and it was a matter of 3" that decided if I lived or died.

Road safety and other people's lives... This is how important that issue is to me. sketch-1510050316118.jpg

So has anyone done anything to their zed lately?

Opened the garage and looked at it earlier. Miss it like crazy. Roads are utterly vile at the moment, so it stays where it is.

Have a few minor things to do to it, hopefully I'll get it out on the drive to work on. Can't wait to get a nice heater in the garage.

Roll on summer!!!! I can get my car up to Jim's to fit my new clutch and flywheel.

Should,nt be much of a problem if you have an intregal garage to run a couple of pipes down from your central heating and fit a small rad to keep the nip off the air:thumbup1:

Exactly what i did. Tee'd off the hallway radiator and through into garage. Works a treat.

I tried to start mine and it was flat again.

True or false guys, after you run a battery totally flat like I did with the dome light mistake. They're never quite as good when you get them going again? I may need a new battery :-/

Not seen either of mine for a while, one is wrapped up in the garage, the other has been spending the winter at Jimmers

Indeed, I've seen it there. :)

It's in the best possible hands.

they need bringing back very slow Tom...these small top up chargers have the electrickery in them to be able to charge in small dose graduated volts till there back in the land of the living

Not necessarily, but as has been mentioned use a smart charger (like the CTEK 5 Amp) to slowly bring it back to life. If the battery is

absolutely flat (check with a voltmeter) then you may need to jump a good battery to it for a couple of hours to get the voltage reading

off zero. Smart chargers like the CTEK have a dead battery (as in kaput) check at startup which can mean they sometimes won't start

the charging cycle on a completely discharged battery (as I found out myself).

Project 1547 - Out of the Blue

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

...............Just wanted to ask advice. I will need to replace the rear tyres soon and want some that are good grip and decent wear rate at the beat price.. I've heard pirelli p zero mentioned a lot but they have a price tag don't they?

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent bit of grip on the rear without the sting in the price?

The nankangs I have are pretty good but they're a little slippy under acceleration, they spin a little easy when the boost comes in.

Hey Paul,

Good news on the MOT mate!

As for tyres - you'll no doubt receive lots of recommendations. I am a fan of Goodyear F1 and Conti Sport Contact 5 - the F1s have never given me trouble - and the AMG comes with the Contis as OEM fitment. Had both on the Zed too and they were damn good.

However, I never thought I'd say it, but the Avon ZZ5 is actually very good and doesn't cost the earth. I bought a set for my Zed a while ago and they have done pretty well. After my previous experience with Avon ZZ3s when I bought my first Zed, I vowed never to go near Avons again. But I was wrong - I tried the ZZ5 because I'd heard good reports - and then I saw the price. I would have binned them if they were rubbish, but I am still impressed. The tread pattern is similar to the Contis and F1s - and they have a cool "Z" pattern around the outer edge...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I see every body is having fun here :gunsmilie: Love a bit of frank and open discussion. Be carful out there.

Bought some new interior bits from Luke ready for the interior group buy. Will be stripping everything out soon.

Wow, just caught up the last 8 pages or so, just from a couple of days!

For the record, I am using Conti tyres and they fit the bill on price and performance for me.

I always found cheaper tyres are generally harder wearing, which means they don't warm up much, giving longer life but rubbish grip, especially when wet. Ideal if you need to put lots of miles on them and are not pushing the boundaries of performance.

Personally, I like cornering at speed, so I make sure I have the grip to provide what I request of the tyre.

What did I do to my zed today? Had a removable tow bar fitted.

Not seen it yet, picking up on Saturday, but hopefully it is as invisible as I specified when not fitted...

Make sure you replace the ash tray too Tom. The plastics will not match otherwise.

I was gona wait & see how it looked but probably will end up changing it.

It will be quite a dramatic difference, but sure, see how you get on.

If it's not a good match he could just fit a cup holder [emoji38]

I think I'd sooner fit a tan coloured ash tray from an US model!
