General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Hi guys. I've been having the usual problem of fuel smell whilst cold running my Jap TT, I've replaced a few pipes although I haven't been brave enough to dismantle the parts needed to replace the front fuel pipe! The problem I'm having seems to be more than a mere leak however, more of an overfueling BEFORE the engine is up to temperature. If I get out of the car I can smell it out the back of the exhausts and there's a definate coke build-up around the exits. Once the engine is warm - no smell. So I'm thinking temperature sensor maybe? I'm no mechanic so I'm here asking the experts.. you lot! Diagnosis and possible solution much appreciated!

are there any z specialists in scotland?

I'm after an alarm that would beep or sound if someone was standing near or around my car, I do not know where or what they are called all I could think of were the proximity alarms for convertibles! Any ideas guys? Cheers Paul.

wonder if anyone could shed any light... the car randomly started sounded rough when I started it on Monday evening. I'd driven it earlier in the evening and it had been fine, must have been stopped for a couple of hours, then when I started it up it sounded rough. I tried starting it up again on Tuesday briefly hoping it might have gone away, but it hadn't, and I didn't have time to investigate then. I guessed it was probably missing a cylinder, which I confirmed tonight by pulling the wires off each cylinder in turn. Hi, Ive had my engine rebuilt about a year ago now its just sitting on an engine stand. I just havent got round to fitting the turbos etc. Ive been turning the engine over now and again at the crank, I know when it was built it was well creased etc! But do you think i should fill the engine with engine oil to prevent any damage? Thanks Dan

Just recieved my aem bits,but unsure on fitment of following: Aem air temp sensor- does this replace an original sensor? If not where do i fit it? Which pins on aem ems unit to tap into? Aem 3.5 bar map sensor- does this replace an original sensor? If not where do i fit it? Which pins on aem ems unit to tap into? ( pin 35 is the only map signal pin i can find) please help thanks

Does anyone know of any good sites to calculate the transmission loss? I found one site that said for a RWD car you add 10bhp then devide it by .88 to get your FWHP. Surely being a mid engine and front engine the Transmission loss is different?

Hi all im after abit of info if poss, I know the N/A gear ratio allows the TT to excellerate quicker at a loss of top end. But is the mid range better or worse? Also how much is lost at the top end Cheers Dan

Bugger. I can't for the life of me find the key for my locking wheel nuts (McGard). I've spent about 5 hours over the past two days searching the garage and the house for it (and the car, before you ask). I guess you can't get replacement keys easily? If not, then what's the easiest solution to get my locking nuts off?

I've got a feeling they are all squealing from time to time. I've tried adjusting the alternator belt but think it has now reached its limit. All belts are in good order and were checked by zedworld not long back. Is there a diagram that shows the tensioner locations etc so I can understand which direction to tighten etc? Cheers :)

This car really is shocking! book figures are 276bhp which put doubt in my mind before buying it but goes to show why it was a £73,000 car when new. My brother has a RX7 Full standalone engine management, full exhaust system, Induction kit giving him about 340bhp which in a rotary believe me is fast and the RX7 is very light and has a 50/50 weight ratio. He is 64bhp up on the NSX and peformance wise there is nothing in it at all, we are neck and neck. I was shocked!! expecting him to smoke me.…

Compare old pulley to new one.

Guys I have new Stoptech big brakes to put on as well as Tein Flex EDFC to fit. Questions are these. Do I need any other bits for the suspension the car already has these? Front and rear adjustable upper suspension link arms Rose jointed front adjustable tension arms Also how long would you say it would take me to fit them, I cant get the brakes working etc as the master cylinder is not in the car. But just fit it all?

Hi, Sorry for all the question, but really keen been after a z for ages, Whats in volved changing the na/ engine too a turbo? is it not worth it, should I just by a turbo one strsight away, Iam a sucker for a project lol. Cheers Mark

can anyone help looking to set my timing on the cas unit any help please :confused1:

Having now acquired a set of OEM fogs, I noticed there's room for a 501 type bulb too. I know some of these were used as side lights on imports, but cannot make sense of why there is the wire for this in the loom if it were never intended to be hooked up? Did the UK versions maybe have the three pins on the connector?

Just a quick question. To remove the front hubs do you simply have to unbolt wheel bearing lock nut, located behind the front axle. Then pull the front hub out? Regards Kev
