sounds like a bearing cage has broken and is being ground around the bearings, same sort of noize a crank shaft makes when fooked on a push bike.. grinding away, really loudly. i can feel it and hear it in the car. i have been told it could be the universal joint as its common to go, but im wondering if its the bearing cage in the jacket tube assembly?? that the column runs through as there is a bearing cage at the top of this. advice please guys and can i replace this bearing cage if need be?? cant see anything on courtesy nissan. pics attatched from service manual

I know it's cold at the moment. but my Zed has started to moan at me! There is a nasty creaking sound coming from somewhere and its driving me mad. I'm really hoping this is a known problem and I can track down where it is coming from and get it sorted. The noise is not constant, but it is there about 90% of the time. It doesn't stop or start once you are driving, just sometimes when you get in its there and sometimes its not. It seems to be coming from the front right side of the car. I have a Jap import TT. I have noticed that the oil pressure has read very low ever since I bought the car a couple of months ago. I know that Zeds have a habit of suffering from dodgy senders, but the readings on my car don't seem to fluctuate, they just stay low all the time, which worries me. The stock gauge in my car reads 0-7. On a cold start, the pressure reads just 4 and it only goes down from there. Whilst at traffic lights and warm, it stablizes at about 1. On the motorway it sits at about 3.5, which is the highest it ever reaches apart from when stone cold. I have changed the oil to Mobil 1 fully synthetic and there has been no difference at all. Help !! i took it off the other day and now i cant find the bloomin hole it goes in !! Its a little block one screw holding it in and i dont even know what it is climate sensor or something??? Any help would be most grateful Cheers

I am having a boost problem. I have an autometer ultralite boost gauge which, at idle is showing around -18 (in.hg) and when accelerating hard only goes up to around 5 psi. I have an aftermarket ECU and boost jets fitted and normally would get to around 12psi. When driving normally the gauge used to sit around the 0 mark but now is around -10. I have checked to see if any pipes have come off, but can't see anything obvious. I also only use Optimax, so I don't think detonation should be a problem or I am in safety mode. :confused: Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Cheers Jeremy

Hey guys! Me AGAIN!! Right seeing as my car now closely resembles Darth Vader's bathroom inside i think i'll try to approach the dodgy headlight issue. When i'm driving at night i might as well have a bloody granny with a lighter infront of me cos they sh*te. now at some point there has been a modification because there is new wiring from one light to the other and off somewhere else. Also the headlights now run on hid 100w lamps. Is this normal? The problem is even with these bloody great wattages they're still utter crap. My main beam is like daylight and my dip beam might as well not be there - my fog lights are brighter than the headlights!!! If th…

Guys Just a thought, without the original loom wire on the temperture sender unit, I presume that my fan wont cut in to aid cooling when hot. I have the apexi sender unit and wiring running so is it as easy as splicing the apexi wire and joining the OEM loom? Or ill this stop both from working? TA. M. ;)

im trying to fit my oil pressure sender, but the steering rack joint (i think) is in the way. what would you suggest? and is it easy to remove the steering joint, and is fluid going to piss all over me if i do?? cheerz Jim

lazy i know but does anyone know the bulb(s) i need to fix this in the spolier as its not working on my zed and i dont have the manual at work. Guessing its just the screws underneth to swap the bulb out?

My HICAS light was on when i got tha car and was old it had been disabled. Not entirely true as the system was low on P/s fluid so topped it up and the light now gos out for about the first 10-15 mins of any journey. It then comes on and stays on?? Ive checked the fluid and its fine, the system works if you give the car some grief when the light is off but stops once it comes on. Any ideas where to start in getting the hicas fixed?

My zed needs new front tyres. Its a 90 TT auto and the front tyres are dead. Currently its got shi##y tyres on from previous owner, and the front has always been a bit lively. the size is about 225/40/R18 from memory. What do people think are the best on a zed for fast road driving? Also best place to buy them? cheers all

Looks like I have a small leak from my petrol tank, using the SEARCH I have found that its happened on a few UK cars, where the straps hold the tank. Does anyone know how much these are new? or should I just find a second jap tank? and is it the same? Thanks Barry.

just took the zed out for a spin but when it gets to 5000 revs the car kangaroos badly with the revs jumping from 5500 to 4500 over and over and wont go any higher its kangarooing very badly but if i dont go to 5000 revs it doesn't do it. it does it in every gear

just fitted a oil pressure guage and at idle it sits at about 30psi... but when i boot it it swings right upto 80 ish! is this normal?

Hey folks - I need advice - hope someone can help. Some bushes need replacing on my 300ZX. One garage described them as 'tension rod bushes' and the MoT place called them 'track control arm inner bushes'. I THINK they mean the same things by that but I'm not 100% sure! Any idea where I can get some of these bushes? Also, could I fit them myself or should I get a garage to do it? I'm not the cleverest mechanically! Cheers people! Tim
