I bought a zx about 3 weeks ago. It is a 1990 G reg Jap TT. I have noticed a few noises that i wondered if anyone else knew what it would be? There is a slight tappinf sound from the top of the engine sometimes, not always but if I turn it off and back on again it goes away for a bit. Any Ideas??? Also there is a rattle when i got over bumps etc sounds like bit of a clanking from underneat? any ideas on that one? It also has a slight oil leak but other than this it is by far the best car i have had so far and its only got 65k on it. Appreciate any comments / pointers offered. Also what do you guys think to changing the recircs to bov's on these, …

  5. I'm looking at buying a Z and I test drove an import today. There were two obvious problems and one confusion on my part: 1) at low speeds in second gear there was vibration through the seat (I'm thinking prop shaft?) 2) at about 80 mph in fourth there was a vibration that seems to affect the whole car, rather than just being felt through the seat. The gearstick shook and the steering wheel vibrated as well, it felt like the car would lurch all over the place if I didn't keep a tight grip on the wheel (not a great feeling on the motorway) I'm not sure if these are related, or if one could be wheel alignment and the other something else (wouldn't expect wheel alig…

Just noticed that the dust covers on my rear shocks have completely rotted, I assume that with all the muck from the road getting to them, they need changing? It looks like standard replacements are £30+VAT (per shock) at Zcentre, is there anything else worth considering (make/model), and should the fronts and springs be replaced at the same time? Also, I’m not very knowledgeable on suspension, will the standard springs work with aftermarket shocks, or do the springs need changing to match the shocks? Not really after lowering the car, but not against it (a bit), and would be happy with slightly better/stiffer suspension than standard. Thanks David

I think I may have a crack or maybe have split a seam in my radiator. How hard are they to work on? Can they be fixed or are they of the plastic type? The water is peeing out when it is about two thirds full. Problem is the car overheated at speed and the temp gauge only went up slightly so i was driving on it for a while!!! Hope there's no pemanent damage!!! Any suggestions please.

Just been to look at my first ZX, a '93 TT auto. Looked absolutely spotless. £4800, a bit dear maybe??? Anyway, got in to have a drive but couldn't get my knees under the steering wheel. ( I'm 6'3" ) Moved the seat back to get legs in but couldn't reach the damn wheel. OK I know I could fit a smaller wheel and a spacer boss, but my wife want to drive it too (5'2") Couldn't believe the wheel wasn't adjustable. So, 2 questions, is price reasonable, and did any models come with adjustable steering columns? Cheers.

Due to my boost problems i thought i may as well try and renew all my hoses and pipes with silicon replacements waiting on Smithy to get back to me on some silicon hose but was wondering if these http://www.zcentre.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=221 would actually make any diffence to the running of the car (power/smoothness)apart from solving any leak issue i had with the old ruuber hoses? A stupid noob question-just interested if they do anything other than look 'bling'

Hi I often see the Fairlady TT 2+2 and the 300ZX 2+2 in various years of manufacture. Is the only real difference that the Fairlady is the Japanese (home) version and the 300ZX is the export model from Japan. Are the specs the same? Cheers Geoff

So after putting my log file up here and having a look back over the details im wondering what the following mean / reflect : A/F Base? What should this figure be as it didnt seem to change much with throttle position or speed etc really, always seemed to be around 100 +- 2 Injector? Its not the duty cycle as that is listed separatly ? And Airflow? Guessing this is the output of the MAF so should go up with the throttle reading etc... Just after a list of normal values as a starting place really...
