I enjoy driving, cleaning and fixing my zed, i feel proud that ive got one, my pride and joy its nice to see folks looking at it rumbling away. I never have bother with anything worth while (maybe occasionally) such as Skylines, Supras, 350's or decent motors, and it always ends with a decent nod to each. Sure i will have a play with certain vehicles if i deem they are worthy, but when im not in the mood, why do people in crap cars such as Saxo's, Corsa's and Old M plate Cavalier's always want to have a go, i just let them get ahead far enough that they think theyve done me, then i change gear and hit the fun pedal, then for some reason all i can see is them in my rear …

When i first start my car it stinks of petrol. it lasts for a couple of minutes then dissapears. i don't think i've got a petrol leak as i haven't seen any little petrol puddles anywhere (not that i would as it evaporates fairly quickly) and it only seems to do it when i start the car up from cold. anyone got any ideas or had a similar problem to this?

Tech tip 2 The humble engine thermostat is often overlooked when performance issues arise and can have dramatic effect in particular the twin turbo and a lesser but just as important level on the non turbo zeds The thermostat is very commonly misunderstood in how it functions and this can in turn lead to ignoring the running issues that it can directly cause. The unit works from cold by restricting the flow of water around the engine block with the exception of a small by pass hole which prevents the water pump been overloaded. A simple but effective temperature sensitive action moves the valve either open or closed according to water temperature. The re…

Hello, was wondering if anyone had put an overboost button on their car, allowing for a few moments of extra boost. I'm not talking of NOS here, just a bit more pressure like the twin turbo John Cooper Works MINI (please.. don't take the piss... was just reading an article on pistonheads)

Well the other week the two heads arrived from the states along with a stupid bill for £250 import duty and the shipping was miscalculated so i ended up picking up the £120 excess on that too but all in all got the heads and roller rockers for £950 all in which is still a saving. Now the annoying part, the springs have been uprated to high lift crower ones, the head's been machined and they've been fitted already, only problem is the roller rockers he's sent aren't for the studs on the head. They're 3/8" instead of 7/16" (smaller diameter holes) Now if i were a skinflint i'd just change the bolts but as there's a good chance at high revs that these could bend a…

This might sound completely amateur but to change the clutch, is it just a case of unbolting the prop and dropping out the gearbox?

Anyone know anything about these alarms? Got a problem with mine at the mo but I won't bore you with the details unless someone might be able to help. Have tried their tech support, but they're useless so far... To give you a brief idea - no chirp, LED always on, battery was very flat until recently...

I am having a engine rebuild and have taken loads of pics. I thought I would start a thread and share my pics and progress through this. All the work is getting done at Custom exotics, but though It would start stripping what I could off the engine at home in the garage. I have never done this before so It felt a bit daunting, but after a while I was enjoying It and was pleased I started stripping it myself ( felt I was learning more about my engine by doing this) I have managed to remove the drive belts, radiator, AC radiator, PS pump, AC compressor, alternator. All the intercooler pipes removed along with the inlet pipes to the turbos, some were a rig…

Suddenly my car has started to make 6 pings (like I had left the lights on) whenever I turn on the ignition. I assume it is trying to tel me something but cannot find out what. Any ideas ? I have checked and there are no lights on and the only thing I did on the car this weekend was to replace the interia light bulb.

A lot of owners have issue with the speedo, power steering, auto box change etc. All of these are related in as far as they are part of the speed sensor circuit, having seen many owners pondering on if the speed sensor is at fault then take a look at the picture below. The speed sensor is rare in as far as it can be seen to be faulty by just looking at it provided of course you know what to look for. The photo actually shows autobox sensors but the manual box sensor has the same issues. The unit is a small pulse generator, as the cog is turned by the gearbox the stator is turned within the field windings which produces a small ac voltage of around 1 to 5…

In the process of scrapping my zed and I was wondering if anyone knows what chip this is in my ECU? I was told by the previous owner that it had a JWT chip installed. All I can say is that the car's boost gauge (stock 14 psi) went off the scale when giving it the beans :wack: and the chip is definitely in a socket :) Also, what does the variable resistor (second photo) do? Cheers Dave
