erm, well i'm an MOT tester & iv got the MOT inspection manual in front of me now, & nowhere does it state that you check for physical presence of a Cat, or that you can fail it if its not present ;) id like to know under what section in the book the're failing it for then??

according David Vizard, a very well respected engine tuner. i remember many years ago reading a book by him & various articles in magazines, and in one article he actually stated that any exhaust manufacturer that stated that back pressure is good is either lying or doesnt know what the're talking about!!! shock wave tuning is actually more important, allowing the inertia of the gasses to keep flowing & actually "pull" the gasses exiting the combustion chamber. if you can find any articles by him, he makes very interesting reading.

at no point in the MOT do you actually check the physical presence of a cat!! if its a vehicle that falls into a cat test then as long as it passes the emissions test it passes. zeds, however, are not in the database for a cat test - so should be tested as a non cat vehicle ;)
  8. my mates got one on his STi too, must be a scooby thing! ;)
  9. looks good IMO :)

    yes!! ;) :D
  12. FWIW stu - the fuel inj cleaner we use can be used neat on problem vehicles, not sure about STP but putting it in 1/2 tank should be fine. :)
  13. ok, 1st disconnect the connectors from the injector & ecu, set the meter to ohms & insert into pin 110 in the ecu connector & the same wire at the injector connector. this is checking the continuity down the wire, should be nice & low around 1ohm. then connect 1 of your probes to a good earth & leave the other probe in 1 end of the wire, should be open circuit other wise the wire has cut through & shorted to earth. then set you meter to volts. 1 probe in wire & other to good earth. should be 0v, other wise shorted through to another wire (short to +) test with ign on. - least likely :)
  14. andy - looking at the wiring, pin 58 is a 12v feed to both the injectors & the ecu, so it should be ok on that side anyway
  15. hiya bud. check the resistance across the injector as you say. to check the wiring, test for continuity down the earth wire at the plug & at the control unit (disconnected from the ecu), you can also check for short to earth & + in case its shorted out along its length. you can also get a tester called a noid lamp, which goes in the connector to check for pulse which may help in diagnosis. give us a ring if you need any more advise - my vehicle electic skills are a lot better than my bowling ;)
  16. yup - adjusted mine last week. & yes, they were f. tight :D

its a PVC covering that goes over the front of your car. stops stone chips. they are quite popular in the states. they detract from the lines & look of the car IMO get it painted!!! :D

i agree with some of what you're saying ie performance related to plugs. the main purpose of plat tip plugs is extended plug life, so you dont need to replace so often. BUT!! - as plugs wear you will loose power, copper plugs wear much quicker than plat, so you will be loosing power sooner as the electrodes wear. plat tipped plugs are better for turbo cars running esp running high boost as they are less prone to damage. so maybe the performance is the same but if safety of you're engine is important to you then use plat. also cost: £1.52 for a plug which lasts 10k miles. plat plugs last 60k miles so 6x £1.52 = £9.12. like you say you can get plat plugs for aroun £8 ea so it also works out more expensive in the long run all IMO IME etc etc :D
  22. depends what you've done. iv just replaced all the suspension on my o/s/r after an accident. tbh, once stripped, the only part the looked bent was the lower arm, but it was an insurance job so best to be safe ;) many of the parts are 'kin expensive tho :( you must have hit it pretty damn hard to do that sort of damage tho - doesnt just want a wheel refurb & wheel alignment does it???
