Infiniti is coming
not sure WTF Mercedes were thinking but it looks like Merc are supplying Infinity with chassis platforms & engines and we get the fooking Renault engine to go in the new A Class :cursing::censored::crying::angry: (and various other angry looking smilies (can you have an angry "smiley"??)) I would have thought Mercedes would have learnt after Chrysler and Smart cost them billions!! Now I will have to leave Mercedes as I have always said I will never work on French sh!t motors!!!

New MOT manual for 2012
Ok - the new testers manual has been confirmed it will come into effect on 1st Jan 2012 However (and oddly as have never seen this before!!) - many of the new items are subject to a "bedding in period" and will be only an advisorary NOT a failure - they have not said how long this bedding in period will be either! these items include: HID headlamp levelling & cleaning devices main beam tell tale battery electrical wiring trailer electrics warning lights for systems such as SRS, traction, tyre pressure monitoring etc engine mounts speedo A strange decision by VOSA!!

where to find sills
yea - as said, genuine only so MJP. there not cheap - around £200 per side IIRC. plus if you need the rear section (which you will LOL!) then you need to allow for that too - non genuine repair panels are around £45 per side for the rear lower sill repair

Shock and horror!
nice look there Jezza!!!

Larger front discs queory
perhaps Merc discs are just a lot better quality LOL! :D
-
Larger front discs queory
we use a lot of genuine drilled discs on Mercedes - although we see very fine cracks on these Mercedes have stated that this is quite acceptable & there is no need for replacement if the rest of the disc is within normal wear limits I have never seen a total failure from this very fine craking around the drilled holes & we get through a LOT of discs here!!! The discs are always below the wear limit & are replaced for this & not for any problems with fine cracking around the holes :)

My speedo don't work
the speedo just isnt a testable item - as a road test is not a part of the test (other than to brake test vehicles with LSD's for example) there would be no way to check it anyway
-
My speedo don't work
nope - another example where something is required to be working by law but does not come into the MOT test! :detective:

18's or 19's update...
yea, definately. If there is no reason for rejection but you know something is not right then you should put an advisory on the vehicle. most illegal plates would be an MOT failure (if fitted at time of test!!)
-
HID kits
With the proposed manual it looks like it is fine - see discussion here: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=155477
-
18's or 19's update...
misunderstanding! theres nothing you can fail it on - its not checked on the MOT nor is there a reason for rejection. now its all computerised there should be no way of failing it unless there is actually a reason for rejection on the VTS computer
-
18's or 19's update...
oh, ok - I am an MOT tester and its not :tt2: find me where it is a reason for rejection: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MOT%20Inspection%20Manual.pdf
-
18's or 19's update...
although illegal it is not an MOT failure!

Car dealers and the 300zx

interesting - Bi-Xenon kits now out there
First time I have seen this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H4-BI-XENON-HID-CONVERSION-KIT-NISSAN-MICRA-1992-ON-/370450764403?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5640961273 They are selling a Bi-Xenon kit much the same as modern factory Xenon headlamps have now where a shutter is utilised to open up for main beam from the same xenon bulb used for dip beam they list a few different kits, nothing specific for the Z32 but am sure if you got the right bulb fitting it would be fine! Nice idea as long as the shutter lasts!!

Pics of progress!
You could probably fit them but even my size tyres run very close to the wheel arch - I had to run a bit more camber on my rears to tuck them in. I was also considering adjustable lower arms from driftworks to reduce the rear track slightly. :)
