Im sure you meant front ;) :whistling: :D yes - sadly everyone thinks that the test is down to the testers opinion - in most cases the fail criteria is quite plain & written down in black & white. The only thing that is subjective is wear - even then most components have to be clearly at the point of complete failure before it is a MOT failure!! VOSA will always tell you - if in doubt then you should probably just pass & advise!!

This is only applicable to cars that require a full cat test - ours dont as they are not in the emissions database (up to '95 vehicles only) from the new manual - "On vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter."

First had to replace my alternator - has been getting more & more lazy in the mornings to kick out a charge & put the light out - should have done it ages ago LOL. Got that done today. Next gave the paintwork a coat of Gard X protective sealant that our valeters use - should help in the winter months as will be using my car as always & not sticking it in a garage for the poorer time of the year LOL! Couple of pics just taken out the back of my garage :biggrin:

thats probably a brake test chart - the emissions database is a big thick book that the testing station should have!!

yup - thats correct, up to 95 if the car fails the BET test then a vehicle specific test needs to be carried out, if an exact match cannot be found in the database then a non cat test is performed

Suspension bushes need to be practically falling apart before they would fail an MOT!! The MOT is a pretty low standard actually for wear & tear on parts!

to be fair there are still 9 celestial bodies - just one has been declassified from being a planet - its not like its dissapeared!! yup - & like I said, its not going to change now!! to be fair, were not discussing if ther are particles that travel faster than the speed of light as they already suspect there are tachyon particles that do this - what I was reffering to was accellerating a mass to light speed - energy will still be required for this which then adds more mass - we will still be squished when trying to accellerate to this speed with any real meaning! yup - it exhibits odd behavours at time & agree a lot is still not understood - like how it effects light or even time! which is why I stated atmospheric pressure & assumed most people would take that to mean 1 bar!! :tt2:

I know - & people like to think this, however there are some things that cannot ever change once you understand!! think like this - hundreds of years ago people thought the world was flat - we now know its a sphere - its not going to change into a cube in the future no matter how much people might want it to be different!! LOL!! pure water under normal atmosheric pressure will always boil at 100 deg C & freeze at 0 deg C - this will always be the case, even in a thousand years time we wont be able to get water to boil at 200 degrees!! same with light speed - scientists know how mass & speed & energy are connected and they always will be ;)

This is Star Treks Warp technology!! Actually its probably the only way around light speed travel - move the space you are travelling to closer to you!! LOL! Again - imagine the power supply needed to even consider having more gravitational effect than a star LOL!!

I cant see it EVER happening - people like to think ANYTHING is possible - sadly there are so many things we do know that just cant be changed. The energy required to accellerate a mass anywhere near light speed makes it impossible (hence Einsteins E=MC2) the faster you travel the more fuel you need, this increases the mass further of the object you are trying to accellerate & hence even more fuel is needed!! Apart from that light can only travel at the speed of light as photons (particles of light) have no mass Ok, so even if we ignore this & we find some miraculous form of energy that has no mass & we can acheive even near light speed - thats still a 1200 year return journey to that planet LOL! AND - thats ignoring the fact of how long it would take to accellerate to near light speed, I mean, seriously - most people could black out in a fighter jet at full accelleration!! Imaging how long it would take to even get to near light speed!! LOL!! We would all be splattered on the rear of the spaceship!! There are also some other things to consider - first, space is really dark - you would need faster than light headlights or you would not be able to see another ship in front of you - stop lights are going to be pointless too. And dont get me started on stopping distances!! :lol::lol::lol:

LOL!! Not sure I'd want quite like that but yup, there was certainly more respect. How many times have we heard our Grandparents go on about how they could leave their doors open & not worry about it etc?? We may all go, oh yea Gran, thats great - but you didnt have PS3's did you LOL!! But for sure in many ways they were much better times. Kids had respect for teachers (or got a good hiding LOL), people had respect for each other Imagine that!

It wasnt aimed at anyone, nor would I ever get offended by what people say. To be honest I generally couldnt give a toss what most people say unless it is someone close to me! Regardless of who you are or where you come from I think people should still have respect for others, thats all. Just completely agreed with Daffy's comments & think most grown up respectful people think the same. Sadly the world is going down hill in many ways & social skills like this is just one area that in 20 years time I think will be completely missing. Its great to speak your mind but at the expense of others is not a good thing most of the time. Everyone can have a bit of light hearted banter & thats fine, in a scenario like this you can rip shreds of people & it can be taken in the light hearted way in which it is meant. Or you can be blatently rude & come accross like a :censored: - most people know the difference but choose to ignore it.

Agreed 100% most intelligent people can quite easily voice an opinion without offending others - its basic social skills that many people choose to ignore & use this as a way of basically bullying people. Then just say "well I just speak my mind" Strangly enough when you speak your mind back they usually dont like it & feel the need to defend themselves constantly! A member posts pictures of his car up, he has done a lot of body mods & he likes it - its not to your taste, you could just say "nice work but not my taste TBH!" - insert a smiley & fair enough, you have spoken your mind. Not many people would be offended by this. Or you say "fekking hell mate - thats the sh!ttyest zed I have ever seen. Needs scrapping IMO" - yup, you have spoken your mind again but in a way that is obviously going to offend. No need!! Its not sugar coating - its about having respect for others & being polite. Even if your views are different you can certainly voice them but in a way that does not need to offend. Everyone has an outburst every now & then, but some people just are like this in everyday life. All IMHO & not aimed at anyone or meaning to cause offence ;) BTW - why is it that people think they can say "no offence BUT............." and then go on to say the most offensive thing ever!!
