Can you hear the fuel pump running ?. There is a fuse in the rear of the engine compartment left hand corner. check to see if blown, and connection not corroded. Check for fuel output from the filter (right hand corner), remove pipe, and turn engine on the key. Fuel filters sometimes collapse with age and block flow.
  4. Put me down for both dates, the 16th and the 19th tho' I suspect no else will turn up on the 19th Legrath.
  5. Sounds more like connections to the CAS unit. Check the connectors on the harness from the PTU which get a powdery corrosion problem due to being at the front of the engine and prone to getting moist from bad weather etc.,
  6. Take the car back to the garage that fitted the engine and insist that the oil leak is sorted 'NOW', and also tell them its 'pinking' which is garage talk for 'detonation'. They can then check the timing, which if too advanced would cause detonation. Does your Datascan confirm the ignition timing on tick over is 15 degrees ? If you car is getting detonation on Optimax, that is either timing or perhaps a boost leak. MAKE them (the garage) sort it out, you have already paid for it in your warranty.

Another check to test the CAS unit would be to mark its position (tippex or scibe a line), remove it. Turn on the ignition and rotate the shaft on the CAS unit in the rotation of the engine (important). you should hear the fuel pump run, and the injectors click as they cycle through their sequence. If you don't, then the CAS unit is faulty. Be very careful replacing the unit to ensure the slot in the CAS shaft aligns with camshaft drive key.

The first thing to do before replacing the CAS unit would to be check all the connectors on the loom from the PTU to it. Mine were corroded and would not start either. Give them a clean anyway, and then try starting it.

Try Zedworld, http://www.zedworld.co.uk he also does second hand parts as well. Jeff Turner on 01827 259222 a real nice guy.
  10. If you bought a standard Jap radio adaptor it should work without any other mods.
  11. If your aerial is faulty and needs to be replaced, don't be tempted to buy one from the US company on Ebay that sells what looks like new replacements. I bought one and could not get it to work. I messed about with it and the wiring for a couple of weekends before buying a secondhand one off Ebay which worked instantly.
  12. Hi Buddy, being only a user has restrictions so my email address is cartia58@hotmail.com. send me your address and I will get it in the post.
  13. Sorry, I jumped a line in your story, but I do have a blower motor for free if you require it. Just the postage to pay, about a £5 I'd say.
  14. Fuse box by the throttle pedal perhaps ??
  15. It's pretty obvious really why the price is so poor. People buy them for their performance and probably looks, not realising the cost of ownership. After thrashing the guts out of them, and not being able to afford proper maintenance, there put back up for sale, but now with a few problems. We all know the average garage shake their heads when you pull in driving a Zed, so that goes against them as well. Once they have degenerated into a problem car which requires expensive specialist attention, the price just plummets, especially when they have also been chaved up. Ebay has highlighted this cheap price, so everyone expects to buy one for peanuts, even a good 'un. So, enjoy it, look after it, and keep smiling.

In old person homes they give the gents Viagra. This stops them rolling over and out of bed.
  17. Has anyone seen a Zed with a LPG conversion done to it. I know the boot space is limited, and they are thirsty buggers when driven properly, but the cost saving would be significant on fuel, which is a major cost on these.
  18. Mine works a dream which considering I bought it off Ebay from someone in Belfast without seeing it, is pretty remarkable. The only problem I did have was a bad connection on the CAS unit which caused a Green Flag recovery. Mind you before I found the cause of the problem, I had changed the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump, the fuel pump control unit, and fitted a MK2 PTU. They certainly aint straightforward but luckily it is a hobby car and I quite enjoy working on it, most of the time.
  19. Actually, I would do it myself, that is why I asked. I prefer to put pistons in from the bottom of the bore because of the lip caused by wear at the top. But I have never seen it done with the crankshaft in place.
  20. Hey Southwestzmech, can you put pistons in a Zed from the bottom with the engine in place, after honing of course.?

How about Luke Borg at the Zcentre, he does cracking trim kits and very good quality. Try his website.
  22. Up that neck of the woods, Zedworld at Tamworth is closer.
  23. It sounds more like a bad connection somewhere in the MAF wiring, especially if it started working OK once it had been disturbed. Check the connector and ensure the contacts are clean.
  24. Kev, I have a matrix going for free mate if your interested, just the postage costs which I would think would be about a £5......
  25. These boxes come out easy, but putting them back is a b*****d, even on a car lift. Definitely a 2 man job, and probably even worse if being done on your back on the garage floor. TT types are quite chunky to lift just around the garage let alone trying to put 'em in.
