Nismo wheels
Gotta make sure the decals are good for use in the oven tho as ideally you want them UNDER the lacquer. Shitty decals will melt........ :headvswal

Nismo wheels
Yeah I agonised about keeping the nismo sticker 'in period' like yours but now glad I opted for the more modern version. Kinda timeless design tho. Where yours fitted to the car when you got it? I have an old nismo catalogue and these wheels were like nearly 2G's to buy new. Chris

Nismo wheels
Guys, I got my RAYS Nismo LMGT2's back and fitted today and boy do they look sweeeeeeet :) The guy who re-furbed them I cannot big-up enough. A brilliant professional job and ACE customer care. He texted me all the way through the job and managed to sort the difficult things like the 200 special bolts required to replace the be-spoke design rays bolts. I got there today just in time to witness the sheer quality of the RAYS work when he balanced them up. He said "look 5grams is all it needs to balance them, I see a lot of wheels and these are brilliantly made" We were able to compare them to some ferrari campagnolo's and lets just say the quality was not as good. :x: Anyway I know many people re-furb wheels and there are lots of guys around but this guy Chris Massey specialises in split rims where most will not touch them. If you need his services his number is 07939081180 He is at Unit 3G Brymau 3 estate, river lane, saltney, chester, CH4 8RQ He is a top guy  OK The cost...... He charged £100 a wheel which remember included all fasteners (200) changed for correct sized stainless items, new nismo decals and note these are baked under 6 coats of lacquer so actually better than the original stick on versions. Oh yes and those following the thread will see i opted for the more up-to-date NISMO logo which I think improves the wheels. What do you think. Sizes are 17 X 8.5 and 9.5 so 1 inch wider than stock all around so fill the arches nice. I am loving these wheels.........Now to fit the NISMO suspension and big brake kit!

Whats it worth?
Why are SWB so revered when even the cars designers said that the 2+2 is the better handler of the two? (2+2 is perfect 50 / 50 weight distribution) Is is rarity value? Does the weight reduction mean performance is that much better? I do not understand the SWB is better angle but maybe I am missing something.......... Chris

Watchin the vids of a fast lap it seems to me that memorising the circuit is the number one route to being fast. Although there seems to be some tricky bits it seems to drive like just a long fast road circuit. There is not as much changing surfaces as I had been lead to beleive. I guess the most ground can be made up on the blind crests which if you know the line can be taken flat out or if you don't not.........What was the peak speed with your wizard of OZ guy? Chris

Selling a house WITHOUT using an estate agent?
Yeah I have done it and it was as easy as piss. My Missus went to town and spent £6 getting a board made. It said House for sale - 4 beds and our phone number view by appointment. We undercut the selling price of the three others that were for sale in the street by £500 and we sold it in 48 hours. If you have other houses for sale in your street it is a no brainer to sell yourself as anyone viewing the others will clock your sign. Also if your house is in a street that gets lots of passing purchasers sell it yourself. You only need an agent if it is proving difficult to sell or is in some out-of-the-way place or is unusual and not obvious from the street. It is as simple as selling a car........ Chris

Autobox Cooler Fitment
Take it to someone who knows WTF they are doing. Luckily my local garage is a motorsport place where all the lads who work there are into motorsport. Even so they said get us a workshop manual if you want us to work on it so we don't Fook anything up !!! Take it to a specialist the trip will be worthwhile. Even Nissan dealers were scared of the complexity when it was a current car. In the early days of my ownwership I had so much trouble by monkeys not knowing what they were doing. Like my boost controller that was connected to the wrong pipe by the reputable Z dealer who I bought it off! Proceed with caution mate

Driving my Z to south of France and need advice
watch our for really shitty low octane fuel. I would take some bottles of octane booster just to be sure. Chris

The ring - advice
That clip is so cool. LOL I have some track and racing experience behind me and have never made the trip so i wanted to understand how the Z fares there seeing as it was originally partly developed there. (handling and endurance work) I cannot believe we ended up with the brakes we did but that was then and this is now. I have got my big brake kit waiting to go on and my nismo suspension set-up will be on in the next few weeks. Cannot wait to see what it is like. Is the hype justified? Chris

if you drive at night best money you will spend period.

anyone know of common MOT fails on the z?
A lot of the major Z bushes are silicone filled rubber so they leak and make the car sloppy. The car can be fully re-bushed with urethane bushes to eliminate this happening every year (it seems that one bushes goes then another then another etc.) It is a pain to do but worth it if you intend to keep the car. The ring - advice
Guys, Going to the ring in september. Anyone got any real world advice of their Z at the ring (I have rehearsed on Gran Turismo) Most worried about frying brakes and tyres :(
-
Variable cam timing
You car will deffo have it and no the VTEC controller will not change things. I do believe that some chips play with the timing of this but you would have to ask someone more knowledgeable like John Dixon

looking for 350-400BHP
a lot been said already but i wanted to jump in just to get some balance. I have spent the last year+ 30,000 miles getting into my 300TT and a lot of wallet already making it better. I am no big expert by a long way but what i have learned so far can save a lot of cash. I won't talk BHP yet as in my humble opinion the best initial upgrade you can do for a Z in real world driving is the following in the order. This is the order I WOULD have gone if i had truly known the car and wanted maximum real world result for my cash. This R & D has been verified by my track day experience and what worked or didn't for my car. 1. HID headlight upgrade - Standard lights are like glow worms in a jam jar and unsafe for the performance of the car. This was the best upgrade in terms of performance per £. Made me feel safe to drive sportingly at night. If you do a lot of night driving get it done now. 2. Big Brake upgrade - The stock car is woefully underbraked and one true emergency stop and the discs warp. I spent too much wallet on stock size discs upgrades and pads when if i had known I would have gone straight to the big brake kit. (assumes you have bigger wheels - 17's for best handling 18's if you want looks - and good rubber already) 3. Uprated front and rear anti-roll bars - made a big difference to handling and cornering speed. - A great real world performance upgrade and low cost too. Jap spec are especially puny 4. Uprated and lowered springs - again great performance upgrade for low cost 4a) Replacement dampers (again stock ones will be way tired by now) I would do all of these things with the stock car before i went for horsepower knowing what i know now ! Now the car is fast and safe and handling well then it is worth talking BHP 5. Major service at a specialist (zedworld, ztech etc.) including a full compression test to ensure all is well so you can be sure that that 60k service (that everyone says they have done before you buy) has really been done. You should have seen the cambelt  that came out of my import that had just had its 60k service - honest gov! :x: Do a baseline dyno run. So many people don't do this. get it done is my advice IF an Auto car add autobox cooler ASAP and don't fit an HKS ALC it will only hasten the end of the std box. 6. Induction kit 7. Exhaust and de-cat (i know about de-catting but lets face facts everyone who owns this car is gonna have to replace the turbo's soon anyway unless you have already done it or bought one with proof that they have been done. Anyone who buys a Z now and thinks not is in denial just start saving) 8. Colder plugs safety for the next step 9. New turbo's (and autobox re-condition if an auto - you may has well have it done while the engine is out anyway) 10. Chip (John Dixon, JWT, Mines, etc.) 11. Boost controller to 1 bar no more 12. Intercoolers That is as far as you need to go to get somewhere near to what you asked for. It will be more like 350bhp real world than 400bhp but your car will go, stop, handle better, be safer and not blow apart either. Chris

Variable cam timing
Ah........... nice question yes EARLY 300 TT's have variable timing but only on the inlet side and the system does not work like honda's system. In fact i think the nissan system pre-dates hondas VTEC system? It was quietly dropped in later production years due to cost reduction / emissions issues.

Which intercoolers
Thanks smithy you reminded me. If you go stillen you have to factor in a set of stillen ducts ($100 extra). These are needed to guide the airflow up behind the indicator cluster forcing the air to take advantage of the larger size. Without the ducts the air will just flow like stock and you don't get the full advantage. You can see the duct in my third picture and some of the foam sealing that needs placing around the duct. This then seals against your front bumper to create a ram air effect. The hole in the top is to let excess air out once forward motion exceeds a certain speed and the air needs an escape! The Stillen guys told me that until they figured this is out the car used to start making a groaning noise and it took nearly 6 months to find out why! If i had not got lucky with my stillens for $100 :) i would probably be running greddy by now with some ducting to direct the air more accurately. Sure felt a bit weird paying as much for the ducts as i did for the coolers but hey it was still a bargain.

special central Plenium.
Amen to that john. Thats why some high tuners also stick with stock airboxes in some cars! e.g. Mines RB26 'response tune' is a classic example 600hp with stock airbox but bags of torque
-
Why is this leaking? What is it?
the OE bushes are a silicone / rubber job that has a design life of 100,000kms you can upgrade to poly bushes

special central Plenium.
Actually around 10k and that is with them sourcing the engine............. They have some stuff lying around for VG30dett so it would clear their shelves too. remember 300zx is considered a dead car in japan age wise so you can find new old stock stuff all over the place.
