  2. Did you buy them in the UK? Did you buy them on credit card (not charge or debit)? If there is dispute between you and manufacturer, you need to get an independent report on the condition. You should also get a formal written report from the bloke what did the fitting. Have you got uninsured losses insurance or legal assistance (might have come with your car insurance) or are you member of motoring organisation which offers the same thing? Next steps depends on answers to the above. As a general rule, the law is that something must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose. 12 months is not a legal limit for warranty - it is just a reasonable one for most consumer goods. The question is "is it reasonable for turbos to fail after 14 months and less than 12,000 miles?" IMO, not. Downside at the moment is the fitment of breather kit. If there is anything nonstandard on the car which affects the turbos or could be claimed by the manufacturer that it might affect the turbos, that weakens your case. HTH - Gio
  3. Shamelessly nicked from the ever-delightful http://www.sniffpetrol.com - well worth signing up for as it's free! The Twatty Top Ten 1. BMW 318Ci 2. Civic Type-R 3. Porsche Boxster 4. BMW M3 5. Mitsubishi Evo VIII 6. Impreza WRX 7. Audi TT 8. BMW X5 9. Audi A4 10. Citroen Saxo There was good news for Honda this week with the release of the Motor Industry National Guild of Expert's latest figures for new car sales to w*nkers. The British-built hot hatch has secured a remarkable lead over its nearest rivals by entering the complete bell-end sales top ten for the first time, straight in at number two. 'The Civic Type-R has been selling well for a while now,' noted one industry observer. 'But this new chart position is something much more significant. It means the Honda has really become a complete nobber's favourite and that if you encounter a Type-R on the road you will probably notice that the driver is a total penis. Of course, driving like a cock isn't enough. This new ranking has been bolstered by other activities, in particular the hyper aggressive defence of the car on one-make internet discussion boards and a refusal to acknowledge that it isn't necessarily the best hot hatch in the entire world. Honda must be delighted. That really is the kind of utterly twatty behaviour you just can't buy.' Elsewhere in the w*nker top ten the loyal devotion of lame wannabes kept the BMW 318i at number one, a slot it has occupied for as long as anyone can remember. BMW's popularity amongst total ringpieces also kept the M3 and X5 in fourth and eight places respectively. With the Civic Type-R in at two, the Porsche Boxster slipped to third, and there was good news for Mitsubishi whose Evo VIII moved ahead of the Subaru Impreza WRX, helped by the anonymous internet poster who last month doctored Sniff Petrol's own spoof Evo advert so that it read 'Always one step ahead', something that effortlessly exposed the high w*nker contingent now amongst the Evo driving community, whilst also making no f***ing sense whatsoever. The Audi TT remains a top ten fixture and it was good to see a concerted programme of motorway tailgating and inappropriate sunglasses wearing has paid dividends for the now very w*nkery A4. Finally, good news for Citroen as the Saxo fills in the tenth place once again. That's got to be something worth celebrating, perhaps by using your front fogs when the visibility is perfect and then driving at 52mph in a 30 zone.
  4. Important news for Zed owners - and a new convert. http://www.theinformationminister.com/press.php?ID=612321940
  5. Thank you for that word from our sponsor! Not but seriously though folks, don't use anything but Optimax at the minimum. ;) And if it's got cleaning agents in it as well (and Nelson should know) then that's a bonus.
  6. Sorry mate - NFI! (oh and kia99 - you don't get hamsters under the wheels, they live in the turbos as any fule kno)
  7. IIRC UK sales stopped in 1994 so if you are looking for a car later than 1995, it won't be a UK model. I seems your best choice is to get a good local LH drive car and respray.
  8. Sorry, Paul, missed that about the gearbox - manual or auto, was it? And the record is still held by the Zed despite several tries by the same tuners with a Poopra.
  9. http://www.courtesyparts.com/publications/300ZX.html if you can put up with a CDROM
  10. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19332&perpage=15&highlight=shock&pagenumber=1 This comes up regularly. Nope, the JDMs don't have it. Yes the US models have switchables all round. Yes the UK models have the handbrake switch which firms the rear shock absorbers up. But NO-ONE has EVER posted a real reference to a Nissan manual, bulleting, explanation as to a) WHY the UK models do this and b) IF the UK models get "harder" as they get faster, where does the input come from. If you look at the manual page in the thread above, there is NO connection from the Adjustable Shock Absorber Control Unit to anything except Ignition, Parking Brake Switch, Brake Warning Light and the two Rear Shocks themselves. So WTF does the alleged "getting harder as it gets faster" input come from and connect to?
  11. They're aftermarket replacements for the OEM. So if you or a previous owner haven't replaced the OEM ones then you don't have the adjustable type. This manual may help.
  12. Just picked this up on the Australian forum - if you have this type of adjustable top links, might be worth getting them checked. thread and pics Cheers - Gio
  13. Don't mean to pour cold water on everyone's hard efforts but please don't expect people to work miracles with insurance brokers. There are simply not enough members to get a real deal from a broker. The ZClub tried hard enough and several people here have also worn their dialling finger to the bone - like Vijay, for instance. You might find a broker who would be prepared to give a small percentage off their rates (just giving a bit of their margin away to attract the business), but 99 times out of a hundred you'll be able to get a better individual deal by ringing round. Your individual choice will be between a 5% discount off a high price or 0% discount off a low price. Nelson - you've got a mate in the biz: what's his opinion? There is a way for a club to do good insurance deals but you need tens of thousands of members and act as your own broker. Which is what the MGOC does. And even they can't please everyone. The other point is that there isn't a single insurance company which gives consistently low deals compared to others. I had a quote from Tesco which varied by 20% within 3 months. The only way to get the best deal on insurance is to ring round everytime you renew. But it is unfair to expect a club (especially one as small as ours) to negotiate a better overall deal. IMHO, asking others to spend ages trying to find / negotiate an insurance deal which actually means anything is a waste of their time. OTOH it should be fairly easy to find a broker which offers (say) 5% off their rates so it "looks good" as a reason for joining the club but almost no-one will find that the cheapest deal for them. So be nice to the volunteers and give them a break if they can't deliver miracles like half price insurance! Cheers - Gio
  14. Glad you got it sorted. Something always goes wrong with mine just when I am too busy! Last time was when the Blaster virus was going round. It just started to freeze and crash randomly. MS updates, Norton updates, scan, apply the fixes etc etc. Hours and hours. Nothing found, still crashes. Take the side off, re-seat the video card: all fixed! (Till the next time...) Cheers - Gio
  15. Stuart - ah OK now I understand what you were doing. A bit. I'd better toddle of to grisoft and start the download! Cheers - Gio
  16. Sure you didn't want this in Help and Advice? Just say... But thanks for posting the pic - makes me feel a little better about mine! Cheers - Gio
  17. Cybercraft was Smithy - the same bloke in whose thread you posted just now!
  18. Dual boot can be a real PITA. Have a look at some of these http://jaeger.morpheus.net/linux/ntldr.php http://www.zdnet.com.au/itmanager/technology/story/0,2000029587,20265546,00.htm http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue38/veselosky.html I don't know whether you will get away with this 'cos you've got it on a 2nd HDD. But certainly having 2 OSes on the same PC scares the willies out of me. If you do unplug the 2nd HDD and the problem is still there, then I would strongly recommend curing that before trying to troubleshoot 2 OSes. Good luck matey - Gio
  19. If it wasn't doing it before you installed Linux and it is doing it now, I suspect it's something to do with this installation. Easiest way to check is to turn off and unplud the HDD with Linux on it and then see if the PC boots OK without the problem. BTW what OS? Cheers - Gio
  20. Thanks Paul, is it these guys? http://www.lepsons.com I would be interested in their opinion on the finish. Cheers - Gio
  21. I think I remember that - very nicely done, too. And I like the idea of replacing the red brake light with clear lens / red LEDs. But I don't have $1,100!
  22. Paul - thanks, might well be interested. What finish do they end up with? Cheers - Gio
  23. Basically any that don't look like this ! I've already done my front corners but would love to have all-clear at the back (brake, indicator, high-level brake). No budget but that doesn't stop me dreaming ;) Cheers - Gio
  24. Thanks Hugh - I just gave 'em a call. They said £65 + VAT per wheel which sounds a little steep to me. If you get yours done, I'd be interested in your opinion on the results. Cheers - Gio
  25. Hallo All, I'm thinking about getting my wheels fettled. Yes, they are stock alloys and no, I'm not interested in aftermarkets. I have looked at loads of places that refurb alloy wheels but they all appear to offer powder coating only. Now I know this can look really nice and shiny (eg Andy P's) but I am not after that look. What I am after is the same look as when they rolled out of the factory: alloy colour with a slight surface grain to it. Does any one know a place that can do this or is powder coating my only option? TIA - Gio
