Long Dash Vent
They's the "sun load" sensor which feeds into the aircon. Helps maintain even temp when going from shady to bright light (eg going into / coming out of shadow - or tunnel).

What's Det ????
Roughly (and I'm sure a proper techy would do better) it's down to the fuel/air ratio. If you're running lean (i.e. more air), the mixture gets more prone to exploding. If you're adding more boost, you're adding more air so get more prone to detting. If you're fuelling lean because you can't get enough fuel into the cylinder, you're more prone to detting. But the richer you run (for safety) you burn more fuel and get less power. To get the best power, you need to burn a stochiometric ratio which, for petrol (not sure which octane) is 14.7:1 - i.e. 14.7 parts air by weight to 1 part fuel. Eg my stock TT Z dynod at 266 standard but 285 by running 10% lean. But if you go too far, then the fuel/air mix can dip too lean at just the wrong point in the revs map and then bangety-bang. This explains the importance of the knock sensor (aka det or detonation sensor) - if it detects detting, it goes to safety boost to reduce detting and save your engine.

What's Det ????
In the cylinder. Not good. It's the petrol/air mix exploding instead of burning. It fubars your piston / engine / crank / con rods etc depending on how bad / terminal it is.

Stop Buying Petrol!!!
Ah yes well - problem is how to find the cheapest V-power within a deviation from the planned route which makes the delta extra mileage more than offset by the money saved given the empty volume in the tank by the time you get to the cheaper petrol station. Of course the real way to reduce the price of petrol is to reduce the demand (i.e. encourage non-hydrocarbon energy so petrol is saved for proper uses like burning it in VG30DE and VG30DETT - oh, OK, any Z/ZX is fine) or ensure your supplies of valuable hydrocarbons come from countries in a nice stable environment not swarming with extremists who don't share your religion. Ah - that worked well, didn't it...

Our Z's Verses the environment, Feel guilty??
Hallo - ex-physicist and ex-hippy here. Global warming, ozone layer and whatnot have been a real problem being researched for over 3 or 4 decades now. Google for James Lovelock to start with. There is nothing inherently wrong with a 4x4 vs any other type of car - you should just judge them on emissions. Plus, if you wish, the boneheaded stupidity of the Chelsea Tractor taking up so much room in our crowded town streets. (Rural 4x4s with mud on them are fine by me.) Running an old car (even with emissions that are a bit crap) is greener than continually buying new cars. Is global warming a fact? Almost certainly. Can we do something about it? Yes - and we should, both individually and as a society. Do I feel guilty about using my Zed as a daily driver since 1999? Yes, a bit - but then I feel smug about not buying new cars and I do recycle a lot and have 2 compost bins, 2 big rainwater butts and try not to be a complete ecological twonk. Do I worry about global warming? Yes a bit - but not as much as you young people should: you're the ones going to have to live with the consequences. Us oldies should just get a few good summers before we go and the rest of you fry!

Removed the front indicator amber lenses...
Well it means you can't use my methods ;) but just get something a bit butcher than the long nose pliers you have. EG tin snips or whatever. All you have to do is break up the orange plastic into bits small enough to come out. As per crotchrocket's method.

Removed the front indicator amber lenses...
http://www.300zxtt.co.uk/silvermach1.htm original "how-to" suggested soldering iron to melt a few holes before you break it off the mount. That worked. I then tried a hole saw plus tin snips. Doddle.

London - Why does anyone live there? LOL
There are many reasons for living in London - and I speak as someone born and brought up in our capital city in the days when phone numbers had three letters in them - sadly the best of them is no longer with us. But we can still take pride in London thanks to Chiswick's finest. London has always been multicultural and that's one of the reasons it's a great place. Well, of course I mean Sarf Lunnon. The Eastenders speak funny and there's nothing good to say about the North Circular :p Power to the People
