  1. 3 statements, 1 is right. Yes the original subject was Dump Valve / Blow - Off Valves as it says in thread title. But it isn't true that DV/BOVs are better than recircs "above normal boost". They can be better where the airflow needed for v high boost (enough for ~600hp) exceeds what you can get through recircs. Technical ref is http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/bov.html A true 500+ (let alone 600) is rare as hens teeth despite many snake oil claims. I would guess there are maybe a small handful on this forum. For everyone else, they're simply a way of getting a noise while reducing performance. And I'll put 50p on the fact that no-one (except maybe some of the genuine high bhp bods) actually knows the airflow through their dumps.
  2. Mr Gere, there's a message for you http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/gerbil.asp
  3. Do do do ... the Funky Simon :nana2:  :nana2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41HHPqWn0cE
  4. Ever wondered where FunkySi got his name? :nana2: :D
  5. b*stard - that's another coffee sprayed all over the keyboard
  6. Errr I wouldn't dare comment on the back of a lady to whom I have not been introduced.
  7. *cough* Actually it's libel, not slander. Or it would be if it weren't true :D
  8. :D and Funky Simon is ファンキーなサイモン (sorry, it couldn't cope with FunkySi hehe)
  9. No they dont - they call them: 弁を吹き飛ばしなさい
  10. Blow off valve = dump valve. Not as good as the recircs fitted by the factory. http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/bov.html
  11. I nearly bought that one! Still, glad you're OK
  12. What a shame, Mike - us oldies really appreciate all the hard work you have put in over so many years since the orange / yellow days. Enjoy getting out of the barrel :D and see you at a meet sometime soon.

Ztech is indeed Ryan / Baggins. They did a lot of work on my Z and helped me out quite a bit - even at very short notice. Were they perfect? No. Would I use them again? Certainly. Same goes for another specialist who used to be a trader here, Zedworld.
  14. Errr there are loads. Just stick 300zx white dials into Google. For example http://www.funkystyling.co.uk/item_detail.php?prodID=449001833
  15. Immediately http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_timer You've got very hot metal rotating very quickly with no oil supply. It'll stop rotating pretty quickly but if the turbo is too hot, you'll cook the oil in the oilways. Leaving nastly little deposits and making your oil a bit less effective. Neither are very good for the like of the oil nor the moving parts it protects. Personally, I would never boot the car unless it was well warm through out (5 - 10 mins) and that includes the tyres. And coming home, I would drive normally using as little boost as poss for at least 5 mins prior to stopping. (and what he said ^^^^ again dammit :D )
  16. The whole point of turbo timers is to keep the oil supplied to the turbos while everything ticks over and cools down. So if you turn it off, you don't get that benefit and your turbos suffer. Alternatives: 1) Keep an eye on the fuel gauge and don't cane it if you know you're low on fuel. 2) If you know you're going to cane it, fill up first. 3) See the petrol station, slow down and drive without caning it for 5 miles in one direction and then back again. 4) ^^^ what he said :D
  17. Hmmm. Didn't mean to mislead. Source for the data was http://tech.aus300zx.com/year.htm Can someone with a FAST CD check if there were models other than CZ32 built in 1989?
  18. OK are you sure it's a TT SWB (short wheel base = 2 seats only)
  19. 1989? The only Z32s made in 1989 were SWB TTs. Every other type was made in 1990 or later. Is it a Z31, maybe?
  20. Nononono :nono: , FunkySi, Ivor went pschh-t'kov, pschh-t'kov as any fule kno

Only relevant for CRTs. For LCDs, backlight is on all the time whether the pixel is black or white. Unless you turn the backlight down of course. And whether you're green, stupid or polka dotted, one of the side benefits of saving energy is your electricity bills go down.
  22. Best advice on BOVs here http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/bov.html confirms what's said above. OEM recircs as fitted actually give better performance for all except the most lairy and extreme of Zeds (~600bhp?). Or you could follow the J Carrott example of going Pt-tschhh a lot
