Chassis number
I was so worried I'd talked b0ll0cks, I just went out and looked. Couldn't see the plate on the wall. But the VID plate is definitely on the panel in front of the rad. On the left. Under that trendy black plate on sumshiftyguy's car - maybe it's still there?

Paintwork protection: film or sealant or?
Brilliant, Peach, thanks. Mods - why not bung this in a sticky FAQ? (Well, Peach's bit anyway) Baz - thanks for the offer but I'm too bone idle / crap at practical things. I'd need to get a professional job done (can't draw a straight line even with the help of a ruler.)

Anyone seen this zed shop in japan?

Paintwork protection: film or sealant or?
I did a few searches on this and couldn't find anything recent so hope I don't get flamed for asking again. (If I missed a recent relevant thread which answered all this, flame away :D ). Does anyone here have any experience with these products which claim to protect your paintwork? Apart from the traditional waxes, there appear to be two alternatives: some form of sealant like Supagard or Diamond Brite (I did find one thread which said don't bother with Supagard). Or there is an external film. I've used something similar on my HTC phone and it has survived really well for 18 months so maybe the car version has something going for it? http://car-paint-protection.co.uk/ http://www.armourfend.co.uk/armourfend-for-cars http://www.paintshield.co.uk/ Be interested to hear of any exeriences. Cheers.

Tyre Choice
Hi Richard, didn't know there were new style F1s. The old ones gave me 8k (rear) on my TT. Bridgestone RE-71s a lot better, SO-2s a better, SO-3s disappointing. FK452s on my Auto? 20k plus :D result. Can't fault them for longevity.

For them old enough to remember
Yep, orange Raleigh Chopper. That, plus downhill in Richmond Park and tiny front wheel led to first ever (but not the last) over-the-bars (or in this case, through) and chin landing. :ouch:

Tyre Choice
Last month I went to change my old set of Falken FK452s for a new set and found they were out of stock. Yes, everywhere in UK - no stock except for 1 set at Micheldever retail who wouldn't sell them via their wholesale dept. Aaaanyway, because of the MOT, I had no choice - needed something. My regular local tyre/wheel place (thoroughly recommendable despite the fact he does Theo Paphitis's Bentley as well :) so here's his website http://www.montyswheelsandtyres.com ) did some research and came up with these http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/car/zv5 I've had 'em for a month now and very happy. They're quieter than the FK452s and there's one corner (head north on M25 and turn off going into town on M40) where they give a very stable and steady grip. The 452s on the same corner were always a bit squirrelly by comparison. I had the Eagle F1-s before and they were nice and grippy and looked ace - but they wore out quicker than Pete Doherty's brain cells. Oh and PS, FK452s used to be around £75 per corner, in March 2011 if they were available would have been £85-£90 per corner, and Avon ZV5s were £100 each fitted valved and balanced. That's for 225/50 standard JDM OEM size.

Zx speedo & mot
Hang on, isn't that just the UK set of clocks? I'm frustrated because I can't find you a definitive pic. This page has Japan and USA but only a description of UK http://www.300zx.org.uk/mod_comp_1.htm I'm not sure if the needle sweep is the same or different (eg would a UK dial face read correctly when fitted to a JDM speeds that's been converted kmh>mph?). But if you're doing a swap back, surely all you need is a set of UK clocks to pass the MOT? That is, if the UK clocks are dual marked like you need. Come on Richard, yours is UK, isn't it? I did find this pic but can't find the original page so don't know if UK or converted or what but it dies imply that a dial face like the one you describe is/was available 1) look at the revs / speed  obviously a private road, officer. 2) think they're real UK clocks as the turbo and the oil pressure scales are in psi Here are also a couple of custom dialface people I found http://www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/contact-us-c89.html http://www.kmh-mph.co.uk/viewitem.asp?ID=423 HTH - Gio

Zx speedo & mot
Oh, you want one like your eBay link but that goes to 180mph instead of the 120mph?

Zx speedo & mot
I think you'll have trouble to find real gold face dials to match which have kmh and mph because those cars were only ever available in Japan. You can find white face aftermarket sets like this http://www.world4cars.com.au/Parts/Info/1981/White-faced-dials-Nissan-300zx-Z32 which you might be able to get overprinted with kph. But then they're not the original ones. My first zed didn't have the electronic gizmo that changed km to m - just a dial-face change. My second Zed did have the speedo converter which Zedworld suppplied and fitted. It's not difficult, just I'm bone idle.

Tyre wear on inside
Worn on inside is almost definitely camber. Get tracking checked. Many places confuse Z31 300ZXs with Z32 300ZXs so make sure they're using the right figures which you can find here http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi If it is camber, standard top links are non-adjustable so you have three choices. 1) rebuild suspension with non-saggy springs and other bits so camber comes back into spec 2) find a shim kit 3) get some adjustable top link camber arms. For shims and camber arms search here or ask ZCentre/MJP

Zed Comfort!
Classic symptoms of rear dampers gone. Stock suspension gives perfectly usable ride. Definitely NOT thrown around in a cage - except when the rear dampers need replacing.
