  1. We're getting there, frustrating the money side of things holding me up but that's life for you ain't it? I've got the block and heads, just need to order in the final few things now and i'll be ready to build
  2. Cheers buddy, i think i actually ended up with a better block too :D
  3. pmsl  i nearly let one slip out in the street when i heard that, talk about heart in mouth lol
  4. Had a phonecall from the engineering shop yesterday that went a little bit like this: "Mr Tandy?" "Is that Bob?" "It is, just ringing to say the heads and flywheel are all done" "What about the block?" "Umm i don't know how to tell you this but you know you wanted it overbored?" "Yup" "It was already overbored by 40thou" "Great so you don't need to do anything?" "Um nope it's scrap" "Huh?" "It's so badly scorched and scratched under the protective layer of grease you should just chuck it and get another block" "F*****SSSSHHH******TTT****" :headvswal So spent the rest of the afternoon desperately ringing every v8 supplier in the country trying to find someone who would be able to supply just the block. Finally the previous owner got in touch to say he'd rang an old friend Peter Knight who runs a V8 workshop in daventry. I took the afternoon off today and went down to see what he had and managed to find a 1969 block, pre acid dipped, with new cam bearings already installed and overbored by 40thou, the piston clearance was perfect and exactly to spec as to what we wanted and I picked it up for £350. The engineering work on the old block would have cost me £280 + £70 for the bearing installation tool and £30 for the bearings so i'm ready to build  Spent this afternoon with a wirebrush tool and the engine stand cleaning the block and grinding away all the casting lines, i'll be painting it on saturday and i'll get some pictures up then :D PHEW!!!!!

  15. Cheers lads, it's all a bit of an unknown quantity picking the cam etc as i've never driven a chevy V8 but 400 ft/lb of torque at 2k is going to knock my socks off!
  16. I've been reading up and messing around with a few ideas before i take the big plunge and buy the cam/rocker/lifter set up for the car this weekend. It's not cheap so i need to make sure i'm doing the right thing so this is what i've finally decided on is a solid roller lifter and cam to cope with the larger high lift crower springs. The cam i've pretty much decided on is the Crane PowerMax SR-232 giving me 232/240 @ 0.050" and 112 degrees separation. It's the second mildest solid roller I can opt for and if i need more later on i can always opt for a bigger cam when i need it. The important bit is that as the engine is a 383 stroker it's got a 0.900" base circle for long stroke clearance. I popped everything into desktop dyno tonight and this is what it came up with for the slightly milder cam with a single plane manifold. I've tried both the single and dual plane intakes and the dual gives a longer power/torque curve so i think i'll compromise and weld a separator into the single plane to calm it down a bit and make it more streetable. Well this is it, the final push to get all the bits in ready to build in the next 2 weeks. Managed to get some custom manifolds cheaply to get it running before getting it taxed and tested to drive to sheffield to have its full stainless 3inch system fitted. After that i need to find a good chevy tuner to get the best out of the carb set up and set the needles up correctly.
  17. Oh i never watch it but we always do something in the office for it :D
