  1. As some of you know, I ditched my sub and large amplifier from the boot of my Z. I have never been a fan of having ICE on show and I wanted my boot back! So, my next process is to beef up the sound coming from the 4 speakers in the car. Now the head unit is an Alpine IVA-W200RI - getting a little old now, but still a good system. It is 4x50w peak and 18w RMS - it also has a 6 channel pre-out. I am a complete novice with car audio. I am not interested in a competition system as I can't think of anything more boring than taking part in a 'Sound-off' or ruining the car's performance and handling with half a tone of speakers etc. I want a basic system that sounds like the sort of thing you get in modern cars. I want to do this by fitting an amplifier as I am not sure that my head unit does a good enough job. There's little mid-range and when you increase the volume, clarity is lost until eventually you get distortion. Now it's not terrible, but it isn't that great. I am not interested in fitting fitting larger (by diameter) speakers, so no 'get some 6x9s in the door' comments. I am considering fitting better door speakers with a tweeter component and a cross-over (fully hidden) based on the standard size of 16.5cm or pushing out a little to 17cm. The rears I'll leave as they're 2 way Alpine 13cm fitted in gutted out Bose speaker boxes. The front speakers I am after are these : http://www.caraudio4less.co.uk/alpine-spr17s-2-way-component-speaker-system-p-162.html which are slightly bigger. My doors have sound deadening in them and I am using the tin speaker carriers, also sound deadened and I have new cabling throughout. What I want to do is fit a small hidden amplifier to power all 4 speakers that'll give me the sound quality you'd find in a new car. I want it all hidden away up under the dash (aware of airflow restrictions). Any advice gratefully received. I have spoken with Mark Derby about it, but can't remember what he said! Small 4 channel amps are what I am really looking for - so any pointers would be great!
  2. I think you'd be walking into a lot of ball ache, but give VOSA a call or speak to your local DVLA. The problem I see you having is that legally, you can't transfer identities unless you're getting it all approved by VOSA - this happens generally with kit cars and such like, secondly, to transfer a plate to your existing chassis, your car would need to be a 1997/98 year of manufacture or newer; despite the error on the V5, they will look at the year of the plate and the ID of the car you're going to be putting it on to - your plate is newer than your car, something you can't get round by registration alone.
  3. I think you'd have to prove to VOSA that this is what you did for the identities to be transferred if it was at all possible.
  4. Ultimas are mental, this one is insane! The video is pants though, doesn't really show it displaying its power. Shame they're so darn ugly. :)
  5. First off, are either of them MOT'd? To legally transfer a plate, the car the plate is coming from has to be MOTd. In addition, you can't put a newer plate on an older chassis. If you want to declare year of donor parts and chassis built, you'd need to get it inspected by VOSA. So you're breaking a 98-spec car!? Or was it one of those DVLA errors that occurred when people registered the date of import as the date of manufacture?
  6. you are summot else! :p
  7. I prefer the facelift version GTOs, but the headlamps always reminded me of those fake twin headlamp things you used to get from places like Foliatec that people used to stick on their old 316s and Escort Notworths. ;)
  8. I like the wheels on your silver Z. I saw a set come up recently on ebay. Always liked yours. 19s too aren't they iirc.
  9. Oh hell, I won't! I am sure it'll be fine, but it makes you think, especially when you see water that high only a hundred yards from your house. I will move it later on if I have to to high ground. High tide is about 8 tonight, so at least it won't come out of nowhere! I couldn't bare to see this happen! It's sat in the garage right now (as is for this time of the year). I seriously don't think we'll have a problem, but it makes you think!
  10. Oh right. Cool. The one red/white/blue one from that distance is identical to the Ohio plate. I really like US plates. So much more interesting than the plastic yellow shite we have to stick on our cars. I hope that one day, with UK legislation, we can at least start using white plates on the rear of our cars!
  11. Just noticed the yellow one on the far right next to what I think is an Ohio plate. What's the yellow one? Only ones I can think of are either an old Wyoming or California licence plate.
  12. I couldn't agree more mate. I was tossing up with the idea of getting a 911 Turbo or a Ferrari 348 a while back, but for the affordability AND the fact that the Z32 (regardless of how little it costs to buy) is still one of my favourite looking cars (within my budgets) that I can run around in and have as a little hobby car.
  13. Nice pics ya big tart ;) . Both cars look cool - but that photo really shows how much prettier the Z32 is when put side-by-side with the GTO. Look how much neater and more exotic the front end looks especially. Looks like you need a new bootlid on the Z.
  14. Took this earlier. If you look on the coping slabs, you can see where the tide reached at its highest point.
  15. Portishead has a flood warning. I've never known it to flood here though, there was a flash flood in the High Street that flooded 4 or 5 shops about 4 years ago, but nothing that sea/estuarial waters caused. We had a high tide at 7.45 this morning; my house is 5 minutes walk from the sea wall and it was about 10cm from breaching it. Fortunately, the water was dead calm, but I imagine if it were to coincide with a storm surge, the story would be quite a different one. Having said that, we experience the Severn Bore every so often and that never causes any flooding....BUT, the next Severn Bore is due to hit tonight! With a storm surge, river flooding AND the Severn Bore, I wait with car keys in hand! The Z and the Leon will get moved to high ground and I don't care if the Z isn't taxed, it's getting ****ing moved if the seawall gets breached! It is a 3* bore though, so not its full height, so I think it'll be fine here. For those that don't know, the Severn Estuary has the 2nd or 3rd highest tidal range in the world. The Bore wash or Severn Bore is a natural phenomena caused when a tidal surge forces water up the River Severn. You head about 5 miles north of here, you'll actually get a wave which surfers often ride on right up through the River Severn as far as Gloucester. This gives a tidal range increase of an additional 2-3 meters in places.
  16. BTW, the oldest plate you have there is the blue with yellow writing, I can't tell from the pic, but I think it's California plate from around the 70s. All the others are quite recent.
  17. Nice work! I have about 30 US plates from a range of states, love them. Usually manage to bring one back each time I'm over there.
  18. Here's the Shiro version, all came with special pearl white paint, the only Z31 to do so and with white wheels.
  19. The owner really should have sent it back. There's a much better market for Z31s of that value in the US, really don't know why he's trying to sell it here. He'll get more for it, even with a shipping cost back to America. My favourite Z31 was always the Shiro - I think it was north America market only.
  20. I actually think NAs were rarer Daz. Doesn't detract as the Z31 is ubber rare now anyways. The UK-spec Z31s, as with the Z32s were all Turbo models and there were very few grey import Z31s that found their way over.
  21. I'd sat it's definitely aftermarket. That is certainly not a Nissan OEM harness.
  22. The one that you made! :wack:
  23. Depends which you go for - facelift versions look really cool (+87) Early ones - not so much, but I still kinda like 'em.
