  1. Thanks znut, I'll get that checked out! :) still very slowly learning my way around the bay, most daunting engine I have ever had that's for sure! Also Mark, no idea when plugs were done!!... Never?!!
  2. Haha thanks Mark, Friday it is :) Bought some Gaskets for the gearbox off you guys last week and had some cracking advice from him with regards the gearbox noise and that is now all perfect! so thanks for that, hoping we can work some magic on this too, and then I will also get the cam belt and water pump etc through you guys if possible.
  3. Hello all, (I promise I will be subscribing soon after all these Questions!)... So, my 300 has developed an idle misfire (not bad but noticeable via the exhaust sound). here are the facts.... above 1200 rpm it disappears. Smooth engine otherwise. 70k miles. No smoke etc whatsoever. have had the odd day of it not misfiring at all. but for the majority it misfires. Only started at the weekend after a week of running fine. Misfires in a regular pattern: hovers at 1k rpm without a misfire for a few seconds, then drops to 750rpm and misfires, then slowly creeps back up to 1k rpm over 10 seconds, stops misfiring for 3 - 5 seconds, and then repeats this process. When driving normally revs have occasionally stayed at 1.5krpm when the clutch is depressed, instead of dropping to normal... This also seems odd and may be connected? Have done a lot of searching and I am yet to find someone who has fixed a misfire so I am slightly concerned. I will speak to JeffTT tomorrow hopefully but thoguht I would open this thread for some advice, and also for anyone else that has the same problem as it may help then resolve it as I am determined! i know the PTU (is thats the right letters) can be naff if it is a series one, but my 300zx is a Jap import from 94 so imagine mine would have been a series 2 anyway... I know injectors or coil packs etc can be an issue, along with maybe o2 sensors, but I am hoping that the specific pattern that the misfire happens on may lend someone some clues??... It is as if when running smoothly something then overloads and causes the car to drop the revs and misfire, then whilst the revs are lower it gradully gets it signal back to teh spark plugs and they work again until it trips out again... Liek I say this isn't extreme misfiring yet, but annoying enoguh and I wan't to catch it befor eit gets too bad! Anyway, rambling now! Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MmvJ7K7ZoU&feature=youtu.be All the best, William.
  4. *although I would ideally like to get this bloody misfire
  5. Hi richard, thanks for the heads up. Yeah I'm going to speak to Jeff tomorrow and find out about OEM parts, belt and stat too. Although I would ideally like to. This blaady misfire sorted first as I am yet to find someone who has fixed their misfire!... It is basically an idle misfire. Although the engine seems to ocassionally not return to a normal idle and would rev a bit high (1300rpm ) when driving. Other times the car idles perfectly fine at 900rpm, and then all of today it has had a slight misfire on idle. Are the exhaust connected at all or are they seperate? - the misfire is ocassionally felt through both exhaust (holding hand close to both exhausts) so either they are connected or the mis is on both banks? Tried fiddling with CPS and connection looked fine... Hmmm
  6. haha yeah quickly realised that one!... time for a major service it is then! Least I have a good mechanic on my side who gives me a great price!
  7. Hello Everyone, Quick update - Gearbox has now been fixed, lovely and quiet. This noise was the gaskets, one of which was back to front. The slop in the gear stick was due to there being literally no gaskets on the linkage, so that feels literally brand new! so lovely. Lastly the water leak is from behind the radiator on the block where the pulleys are which I believes means water pump!?.. probably one of the best outcomes as I seem to be able to pick them up for £30?! :)
  8. I like the way you think! I'm flushing the rad this week and testing for leaks. It was misfiring this morning but stopped misfiring by the end of my drive to n so pretty sure it is just connections :) thanks for the heads up! Looking forward to diving in and cleaning her up!
  9. Hi Richard. Thanks for the pointers - I have a feeling it is using water, although the previous owner said it used none, the overflow seemed empty yesterday so I am keeping an eye on it! Can't see any signs of leaks so hoping it won't be the head gasket!!! Argg, Going to get my mechanic to look at it this week, hopefully get a compression test. The oil all looks good, hasn't used any and look very clean.
  10. Hello Mate, Did you ever solve this? - similar issues on my new 300! Best, William.
  11. did you ever fix this mate? my new 300 manual TT is doing the same low idle misfire and some white smoke when cold... Best, William.
  12. Hello Mate, Did you ever solve this? Best, William.
  13. Thanks Richard! :) So today it decided to start misfiring slightly on idle, not terrible and is only when you don't use any throttle. Looking on the forums it seems that it is going to e one of a few things - spark plug, coil pack, injector, injector ring, MAF sensor... when it happens it sometimes effects both exhausts which means the miss is on both banks?.. this would tell me is isn't necessarily an isolated cylinder, maybe the MAF? Any ideas? Also before the car is up to temp there is a medium amount of whiteish smoke/steam coming out of the exhaust - this disappears completely when the engine has warmed up, anything to worry about?
  14. Morning All! Good news about your Gearbox seagull! - Jeff is such a legend. What was the issue in the end? I have just bought some new wheels! Think they will look pretty good, if not then I can always sell them and make a bit of money on them... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121138647487?redirect=mobile
  15. Thanks! Yeah I am going to probably go for a glodd black for the respray :)
  16. hello, It is a 4th series 300 which had a revised spoiler which nips in just either side of the rear window... http://www.thesupercars.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/Nissan-300ZX.jpg I would be tempted to despoiler it but I fear that will turn into ta bit of a big so for now it will be a case of a respray probably with some colour coded wheels :) Eventually a 99spec front bumper too! yum. best, Will.
  17. Welcome to the club! Gurteen, shame you are selling up - how would you compare the supra to the z32?..
  18. Hello buddy!
  19. No offence taken, this is purely a test to gauge opinions... is it thi spoiler in general you don't like or specifically black? I do like the clean look when people have them removed...
  20. Hello buddy, thanks! yeah it works very well, my favourite is the gum metal grey like your photo but they are so hard to find well looked after. what was the gearbox issue? Sorry to hear it. So glad my gearbox issue was (is) a quick fix. Jeff knew even before I had told him what the issue was haha, great guy! Ahh those 280s are absolutely beautiful!! best, W.
  21. nose cone??... is that the little rectangle on front of the bonnet? Well i decided to find out what black looked like so dug out some carbon fiber vinyl wrap... never used this stuff myself but used to have an online shop that sold it.... pretty happy with the black on blue look! Now just for some black alloys! Here is a before and after taken on my brick of a camera blackberry...
  22. Hello everyone. Ok so my new 300zx arrived home this week, it is a dark blue 4th series manual TT. Really well looked after apart from an idiot who repainted the spoiler by hand in the wrong blue! I am going ot be getting some lowerign springs and eventually coilovers and 18" wheels which will probably be black or split silver and black/matte black. Along with that I was thinking a gloss black spoiler would probably set it off quite nicely. (I may be wrong but worth a shot). Either way I am wondering if there is any advice to the process or any write ups on respraying sometime like this myself? I can get a guy to do it but I would much rather lend my hand at this and learn some skills along the way! best regards, William.
  23. Oh god yeah the wheels are a train wreck.. Going to pop them on ebay but pretty sure no one well take them. Will offer then to some 17yr old in a corsa. Well this is registered as a 94 on the V5... What other differences would be able to tell the difference between the 4th series? It is nice to hear that this was a feature of later tts as that means I can count on the 60k on the clock being correct! :)
  24. Also unfortunately the exhaust is only the back boxes, so she is very quiet and really purrs... I don't want huge pipes but a sports system or at the least a decat would be nice! It is worth being able to hear that amazing V6
