  1. I think that facebook is a good place for quick answers, but forums still seem like a good place for for in depth posts an discussions rather than how do I refil the washer fluid type questions. but yeah also time of the year probably. To be honest I feel like a lot fo places have been quiet zed wise... Not many mint motors for sale in a while.
  2. There was a 5 point cage for sale on facebook this week if interested? Also Ash, those recaros look really low compared to the standard seats! Never noticed that before. Can you tell a difference compared to stock?
  3. Hello All, Looking for a few bits... Dash top for leather re trim. Glass/plastic from the cluster as mine is scratched. Door cards without seatbelt holes, so the later style.
  4. Hello All, I have a set of chrome dash cluster rings to fit so that should be reasonably straight forward. Whilst the cluster is out I would like to do other things as well... The glass/plastic is scratched from a previous careless speedo conversion so I would like to replace that is anyone has one, and also I woudl like to upgrade the leds as they are dull as hell. Could someone please link me to leds that will swap right in to the cluster? I might do the pods at the same time ?...
  5. I think he was just pointing out the badges on the listing :)
  6. Updates: so in my absence I had my local mechanic look over the car for a first opinion. He does all the work on my zed an I trust him but this is a bit specialist for him. He found a vac leak which is has fixed so hopefully running smooth again! He did not see any blue smoke and didn't think it to be smoking any more than it should on a cold morning really, so he suggested we try it for an MOT anyway as the last owners garage just refused to test it based on "Blue Smoke" as per th MOT fail stating not tested... Still not seen any of that! He did a head crack test (or something like that) which uses a chemical in the water to test for air mixing. Apparently it turns a different colour if there is a leaking head gasket, and it passed that. But this is something I have never heard of. Finally he did a quick comp test on the cylinders, but he did say that his gear hasn't been set up in a while so woudl be good to get second opinion. He found that all cylinders were at 90 PSI, apart from the left front which was 60 PSI. Woudl still really like to meet with Steve if he is around one weekend tot have a crack at testing the cylinders... So we are going to try and MOT it next week and just see what they say. If I can get it on the road at least it gives me some flexibility with future work. Although Inisital insurance quotes are killing me due to not havgin any no claims bonus (on other car). lookign at a grand to get a years insurance at moment which is killer :s will try lancaster tomorrow.
  7. I could presumably have a mechanic drive it to an MOT center?... would only give it a run of 20 miles though. It hasn't failed on anything apart from the smoke at the beginning of the month.
  8. Oh christ yeah the engine bay is a state!! Couldn't believe it. Needs a good scrub. And the rear carpet has a bit of mould so not sure where that leak is coming from!
  9. Cleaner than mine mate haha
  10. Update 01: finally checked the car over in the light. Nothing technical just a decent look over. Seems really solid, can't really see any corrosion underneath! paintwork needs some attentions on offside rear quarter but nothing terrible. Also rear bumper has faded a little. Interior is exceptional. engine wise it starts to misfire or run slightly lumpy once warm (didn't seem to when cold). The passenger side seems to smoke slightly more (keep in mind this is a 6 degree afternoon so pretty nippy). Smoke could be worse... Looks grey to me though, not blue?! Interested to hear thoughts... Idle [video=youtube_share;qRoPCUaCcHY]https://youtu.be/qRoPCUaCcHY Idle and rev [video=youtube_share;ytCZdgnq4sk]https://youtu.be/ytCZdgnq4sk Stuff on the floor... Water and carbon?... don't think it is oil. probably just soot. [video=youtube_share;cffXga2nnm4]https://youtu.be/cffXga2nnm4 More idling [video=youtube_share;9INDtXPgqYc]https://youtu.be/9INDtXPgqYc Photos (Warning pic heavy!!) https://williamschestnutts.wordpress.com/2016/11/29/swb-300zx-tt-slicktop/
  11. Really nice !! Are you going to plumb in the boost gage?
  12. Woke up to phone calls from the seller of my SWB saying that my transporter had not turns up and he had turned his phone off. What a stitch up. Managed to find another guy in Bournemouth who previously owned a Zed and he gave me a decent price for the 300m round trip so the SWB is finally on route to Salisbury tonight!! Going to go have a proper check over it tomorrow and start planning
  13. You will have to do mine soon as well to go with the side lights you did. cracking job
  14. That would be amazing thanks! Do you have a cylinder tester or shall I pick one up?
  15. Will be when i move it this weekend or next. Salisbury
  16. Hello All to continue exploring options for the SWB I would like to know if anyone has a manual conversion available and at what price? Unfortunately I dont have room to do an Ali and buy a 3rd 300zx, but looking at options of swapping whole engine and gearbox at same time as I am led to believe they might be easier to do at the same time as you can drop the whole thing in. regards, William.
  17. Yeah, thats why I am hoping to get a leak test done first. Go from there. Going to put a spreadsheet together and see what the best route forward is for it financially. Being original need to see if it is better to rebuild an original engine, or swap out with a different block. Or manual convert and new engine.. I think you can pull the engine and gearbox through the top of the bay? hmmmmm
  18. Holy crap that is what I neeeeeeed... estimated sale price?
  19. we will see...I am not sure which colour is worse at this point in time.
  20. Yeah thats the one haha. not a word I use very often. MOT says dense blue yet he said white on phone.... and it looked white when i viewed it but we will see.
  21. Okay plot thickens today. Garage he has always had look after it called me back today. The guy drives about 500 miles a year and 2 or 3 years ago he had a problem with the (temp solenoid thing) sticking open (or closed... sorry my memory is failing me) and caused it to "get warm". He then had that fixed and continued to drive it for the last few years pottering to his mums etc with the smoke getting worse each year until it now doesn't pass MOT. So the smoke is described as mostly white, with a bit of blue maybe. The guy at the garage said to do a cylinder test which will check what is damaged on the block... rings, valves, gasket etc. Apparently 90% accurate. I am going to hope my mechanic can do that test for me to try and diagnose, but it might end up being a money pit so possible a replacement engine would be better.
  22. Hello all So looking at options for the SWB I just bought and wondering if anyone was selling a TT engine? Regards William
  23. Would you like a rust free version? ;) I am going to probably need some help and advice on this one so will be putting a help thread up too. Being shipped from deepest Essex to either London or Salisbury (mums) where there is space. Will call the garage today and have a chat with them about it and the head gasket diagnosis. Hopefully won't have to replace the engine but hey ho. Will be looking for advice on the cost efficiencies as to skim heads etc could end up being a grand after all in. Perhaps it would be better to dump a new lump in
  24. Evening all, Just got back from a viewing of a second Zed. A 1993 slicktop Auto TT. One owner since import in 99, and covered less than 15k miles since! Bodywork seems pretty good apart from some ageing paint, wth minimal corrosion. Kept 100% stock! 93 on the clock. It has a slight misfire or is just running rich, and failed the mot on smoke due to apparently the head gaskets, but yet to prove that. Took a gamble on it but going to ship it home this weekend. I have a mechanic friend willing to do the investigation and heads potentially. £1000 + 1-200 in shipping, so hoping worst case I will make my money back if it turns out to be more work than we can take on. Potential for the future is possible a manual conversion is the repair work goes well and we will see! Couldn't not take it at that price though, is a gamble but we will see!
