BMW 3 series touring are very good as well, I've been looking at getting one as I can put the surf boards in it but can also learn to drift in it!

Sounds like you may need new discs? Your braking will be poor and it might trash your pads so keep an eye on it.

Worth reading the workshop manual for diagnosis steps. Its in the FAQ section and shows you the proper way of doing the checks.

You can check for a spark by removing the plug and coil and grounding it on the engine somewhere.

Each to his own and all, but boost jets really arn't a good thing to do to your car. I never had any problems on my old car, then the engine went bang! They are susceptible to boost spikes which can cause damage over time, you also get a lot of extra functions on an electronic boost controller that make them well worthwhile. Do your car a favour and spend the extra cash and do it properly. Also time spent having it properly set up (eg Thor racing or similar) is worth its weight in gold.

Yep, because the sensor is in the v of the engine so it all has to come off. Basically unless you are removing everything for another reason then it isn't worth replacing the sensor. You can't clean it as you can't get to it. You could try cleaning the connector and checking the wires, the sensor dieing is a common problem at this age though.

If you look at znuts posts for a dett bypass thread (top of the list) I posted a copy of how to do the bypass. Its the best thing to do as to replace the sensor you need to take the top off the engine which is a nightmare. Plus its easy to stick the resistor in there.
