Your Zed experience? info for newbies
Fair point Dave, but I'd need a 3D poll for that! As for the zed above that hasn't sold, I can't see anyone travelling to Tealing if there arn't any pictures up. I'd travel anywhere in the country to buy a zed myself but many wont.

JAE - a new find...
My missus's sister really wants one. I think they look funny as hell, but I can understand why all the ladies like them. Very girly, think I'd not be able to stop laughing if I had to drive it!

Motec Engine Management.
I don't know anything much about them but on the car I looked at a few months back with motec (boomin33 bought it in the end) you could turn anti lag on and off. The owner said he never really used it though as it was very extreme on fuel and spitting lots of flames!

Your Zed experience? info for newbies
I've edited the original post to make my intentions clearer - I'm not saying 3.5k is a shed, I'm saying that 3.5k is the average price of a bog standard zed in reasonable condition. Do people agree??

Thats the whole point though Mick. I'd say the expected price for a standard zed that hasn't had any rebuild work done, but is in reasonable condition is about 3.5k?? Whereas one that has had new turbos/autobox/rebuild will cost more (whether uprated or not). I personally always advise people to go for cars that have already had these things done. I just wonder if we are actually at this point yet or is an untouched Zed still a good proposition??

how reliable are these cars?
I agree with Si. His experience aside, I still think its very good advice to spend 4-5k on a zed. There may be many going for 3kish but how many of these have got reconned gearboxes, new turbos, and/or an engine rebuild. This is a very definate risk at the age and milage of most of these cars. People may not like to accept this but take a look on the rx7 forums which have had to deal with this stage a few years back. Its standard advice that you don't buy an rx7 without a rebuild already done, and if it hasn't been done then expect to do one very soon. I think this will be the same with zeds very soon, personally I think we are already there.

Your Zed experience? info for newbies
I know its a common subject at the moment, but I thought it might summarise peoples experiences for the many new zed owners that are coming along. My personal experience as many know is first a standard zed with boost jets for 4k that was an utter nightmare, autobox broke, rebuild engine, etc, etc My second zed though was a gem. 5.5k no problems at all, lots of money already spent on new high spec engine, basically all the modding done already. I'd now never buy a standard car. Its often considered sensible to buy a bog standard car so you know its not been trashed or had silly mods, but I think they are too old now and will often require new auto boxes, turbos, rebuild, etc. EDIT : TO MAKE MY ANGLE CLEAR: I'm not implying that under 3.5k is a shed. I choose this amount because its what I consider the asking price for a bog standard zed in reasonable condition (NOT a shed). Cars that have upgraded turbos, autobox, and or engine rebuild generally go for more than this. I've put the divide as 3.5k, as less than this is very very cheap for a 40k sports car that will do 175mph! by bad experience I mean had to replace a major component at expense. Forgot to mention you can vote more than once. Also if you spent 4k a couple of years back I'd count that as a 3.5k now ie a cheap one :)

Speeding Ticket Problem!! Please Help - Long Post!!
Sounds like their mistake kirbz? surely its the companies responsibility to id the driver, and you've been in contact as soon as you found out. Do you have any proof of correspondance? ie copy of the first letter, and copy of the fax? If you've got hard proof then you'll be back at stage 1 ie driver up your arse etc?? I'm waiting to see if I get a summons for stopping and reversing on the hard shoulder to help a broke down zed, bloody police car appeared out of nowhere and did me for reversing :headvswal Worse news is I've got 9 pts so fecked if I get done for it.

Not if its a company car mate

As above I reckon, my first zed was a nightmare from start to finish, my second zed was a dream and needed virtually no work what so ever. If you go bargain bucket you'll get a shed, if you hang around and wait for a goodun and spend a few grand more you'll just have the (expensive) running costs for things like tyres and so on. All worthit though if you can manage it. Do a search for average costs: £1k a year for tyres aprox, 15-25mpg for a TT,etc

Good stuff, congratulations guys, some reward for your hard work at the mods.- **Z Photo Competition**
Wish I had some pictures of when my missus found a ford (in the middle of winter in horrendous weather I might add). It was 6ft deep haha, had to evacuate out of the side windows :) She'd bought a vauxhaull astra only a week before, it was the first car she'd spent over £100 on ! two days later I squeezed her knee and she stalled and the car behind went into the back of her and it was a financial write off. That wasn't so bad as she then effectively had a dented car for free. So two days later she drove it into the 'ford' (river :headvswal ) lol It was floating!!- Missed JAE where next
Can't remember the date but trax is coming up and you can run your car on the silverstone circuit.- variable valve timing query
Variable valve timing is on all zeds until 95, then it got removed for emissions regulations in Japan.- N/A versus TT
I'm not saying you will get a dodgy one for that, just that they are old and lots of sheds about. The market is terrible for selling at the moment in all jap cars so you may get a bargain, just be cautious. I personally would pay around 5k as for that if you are patient you can get a very good one with a professionally rebuilt engine and new turbos, etc, still cheaper than a new fiesta! Maybe find one thats going for over £4k and try to knock the seller down a bit to what you can afford? Above all get to the meets and look at good clean ones before deciding what to buy. Chances are you'll look at the first one and get carried away as they are very nice cars!! In terms of milage and what might need repairing, after 80k you should consider: turbos £1500 Autobox £1000 Engine Rebuild £several thousand At least if these things are done then you'll hopefully only have to spend money on little things. Not trying to put you off just realistic as the cars are in a price range which is in contrast to what they are to maintain now.- N/A versus TT
Quite a difference really mate, in terms of pull when you nail it and high end power. On the other hand the N/A has very nice non-laggy power delivery. You don't notice much lag on the TT though because the tubs are quite small for that reason. Petrol consumption and insurance isn't as much difference as you might think. On the other hand maintainance is a lot cheaper becuase you don't have to worry about tubs dieing, which is a definate issue if you are looking for a standard Zed at £3-3.5k ish. You should be able to get a nice N/A manual for that money but a TT will be 50/50 if you get a good one, and bills would be higher if its dodgey.- Faster than the Bugatti Veyron !!
Looks a bit suspect to me??- Worried My Car Is Slow
The v6 can often deliver power very smoothly and so not feel as violently fast as some other cars. Also the summer heat isn't good for taking people on test drives.- Holding revs
??? :-o So it did it at a time other than startup?- oil smoke?
pm'd my number mate. I'd wait for some expert advice before doing any bodge job! They'll be back from JAE later!- Holding revs
Hi Mark, I've sent a message to TonyC to see if he can explain how the Greddy E01 and Apexi SAFC are set up for you. The cars are supposed to idle high on warm up and then settle down. The car has always idled around 1000ish, its just the way the car is set up. Sorry I'm not technical enough to explain it better, I'm sure someone will come on later. They'll all still be at JAE at the mo! ps - Don't start adjusting the base idle screw to lower the idle. The following link gives lots of info on idle issues with the Zed: http://www.aus300zx.com/tech/a-z.html - JAE 2006 ~ Club Awards
