  1. Cheers Clarkey So what the hell do you think it was then and do about it now? car seems to be running smoothly so how do i pinpoint what was wrong? And yes, it was the connector right at the front of the engine rather than between the lights! I dont know if its me being paranoid but it seems theres a teeny bit more exhaust smoke out ofthe drivers side as compared to the passenger side - relevant? im at a complete loss!
  2. Right - Im gonna need your expert advice here: I have an imprt TT that i was driving the other night when suddenly noticed loss of power and erratic idling. The rev needle then refused to get over 1000 and gradually lost more and more til the engine just shut down. I managed to pull it over before it completely died but couldnt then restart the car - electrics seem fine. starter motor ticking over and fuel pump seemed to be whirring but engine just wouldnt catch. Waited two hours for the AA after trying to restart unsuccessfully and wouldnt you know it when he turns up it starts on the first go although still "lumpy" acceleration. AA guy used to own a 200sx and says most likely fault is Air Flow Sensor sending dodgy signals. He then keeps engine running and disconnects the sensor right at the front of the engine - connectors are covered in green crap which he scraped off. Engine now running fine and has not missed a beat in 80miles since. BUT 1. If the engine needed that sensor to work then why didnt it cut itself off when it was beinig disconnected and cleaned? 2. After looking at some pics on the forum this morning it looks like the sensor is the Engine Water Temp connector so now im totally confused!!!!! 3.To add to the confusion now the electric windows have packed in on both sides; is this related? I have a long journey coming up next week and I am unsure whether I should take the Z now as breaking down would be a major hassle! Does anyone have any ideas about how i could fix this - I am planning to give it the 60K service in two weeks so do i need to ask for any addditional parts etc? thanks in advance
  3. welcome bud!
  4. complete b*stards But wait a second mate - what if you manage to get everything fixed up again - what is to stop them coming back inanother month and doing the same thing again?
  5. Warning: the turbo timer will invalidate your CAt 1 status. You can still get a cat 1 certificate with Turbo timer but if your insurance company finds out your insurance will be valid as far as i can make out. I think this is true evn for alarms with timer built in!
  6. Im sure they recreate the buzzer in Gran Tourismo
  7. interesting point as my spoiler is also fcked and it has been raining lots recently!! however even when i have a helpful assistant pulling the release catch at the same time i stil cant lift it up! but good tip
  8. " fast-ish, for kind of half general use. " NA "I intend to go to work in it twice a week." NA " I want something that looks good and is good for the summer." NA IMHO looks better esp for the summer as a large part of the "look" is the sound and the NA sounds AWESOME as it runs a higher compression engine. PLus the money you save you can spend on bling like wheels or 99 spec lights etc. "...dont haveto worry about the turbo maintenance.." lol obv NA again. It seems the car that will definitely suit you best is the NA - dont get me wrong the TT is an uncaged animal and better car IMHO but at your stage you will save money and learn how to handle the NA as a "stepping stone" before thinking of a TT later. This is especially the case as you wil be getting a manual which is always more fun!
  9. But you still havent told us exactly what you are looking for in the car - looks? track performance? road performance? sound? driveability? cruising? commuting? you will find the various incarnations of the z are vastly different beasts!
  10. thanks guys - will give it a try dammit i love this forum
  11. The bloody boot catch next top the drivers seat has stopped working - i can hear clicking but the boot stays locked unless opened with a key - any ideas?
  12. What if the poilce car you are happily blocking away was on its way to your house to investigate reports of an armed intruder?
  13. excuse my ignorance buts whats the advantage in the 350 brake as compared to Skyline upgrades or even fitting the Evo setup?
  14. Cheers John - V Helpful Post. I have got down to measuring it - the rear plate is the problem approx 35cm by 15 cm. I have got a local place to cut a plate dowen to size but it looks a bit illegal as the characters hardly have any spacing between them! Im gonna see how long I can get away with it though now that i have a car i can outrunthe cops with lol.
  15. Large, large, small to middling and small to middling! hth.
  16. Jeez! I hope you checked out your tyres REAL carefully before booting it at that speed!
  17. LOL - I love things like this - proves once again how brilliant the site is!!! Also gives you even MORE respect for the Z - bet you cant wait to get out there and try it!!
  18. "Never understood why someone would buy a sports car and then have automatic transmisson.Half of the fun of driving a quick car is changing the gears....." Neither would I but some would argue that some variants of the Z are more of a Grand Tourer than a Sports Car - for cruising long distances and blasting pastpeople on the Mototrway in comfort rather than caning around a track. Thats why having an auto option is useful. In a VX220 for example, an auto would be silly. Legarth - agree that 0.1 seconds is not much in the grand scheme of things nevertheless the auto IS faster to 100 and i think there is a misconception that the auto is much slower than the manual when it isnt (thanks to Nissan genius!!)
  19. Guys I am about to order some plates from fancyplates but after using search i have discovered that there are at least three diffrent plate sizes claimed for an import Z. So what IS the definitive size I should be ordering for the rectangular front plate and "square" rear? I am quite keen on getting the 3/4 size front btw. Cheers for your help.
  20. They look nice mate - where did you source them from?
  21. Also did you wire them in yourself? Have you got a 60mm DIN slot? The only gauge holders i can find are 52mm!
  22. Cheers mate - they look great!
