For the brakes don't go for brembos unless you use the car regularly as they can rust quicker than normal. I have them on my monaro but many other owners who use their cars for the odd weekend have replaced them quite quickly due to rust.

I agree with Stephen, get someone else to do it. Any mistakes with the timing belt (misaligned, to loose to tight) could well range your engine with very expensive repair bills so would be cheaper for you in the long run

A 3/4 drive single hex deep socket should do it

A deep single hex 14mm socket normally works fine on those bolts. Are you using a shallow socket?

There is a oil cooler for the gearbox as part of the radiator I believe, so could be rust or stone damage in that area
