  1. A productive afternoon.......................... I'm off to my place in Spain on Friday for a week so I will pick up on this when I get back:tooth:
  2. We will start with plywood to get shape/size etc about right. I have a large sheet of aluminium which will probably be the final item. Jaffa has already given you the answer..............:smartass:
  3. There is no real point in weighing whats being removed because there are other parts to be added. In particular a full weld in cage. The final weight is what matters. My focus is to remove everything that is not absolutely neccessary. This will help keep the final weight to the minimum possible. Bigger brakes. bigger turbos.Fire extinguisher. NOS bottle, bigger wheels n tyres(even lightweight wheels) etc all serve to increase the weight
  4. Yes I know!!!:detective: Yep they sure are. Fitting is on the cards soon. Just need to finish cutting, grinding and painting before I fit them.:winkiss:
  5. So another day of graft. I'll let the pictures do the talking....... I know its a mess but I do have a plan... Honestly:smartass:
  6. He has not decided. costs are eye watering! Clearly a large rear wing set at an angle to create some downforce is going to have a "drag" factor on the car. We should have enough extra power to maintain current top speeds or even exceed them in the new engine.. Front donwforce to my mind is not such an issue. We want to clean up the underside to allow a smoooth airflow under the splitter/car. Im not convinced about adding canards. We have discussed it briefly. Yep it is quick. Glad you enjoyed it. I have just got used to it. Next time out it should be even faster:scared:
  7. Im not paying so no problem for me!!:smartass:
  8. cheers Paul. Brakes were sorted earlier in the summer when Bob acquired Madmax's car. He alrady had Stoptech fronts on the slicktop and now has Stoptech rears too. all fitted with Ferodo DS3000 race pads.
  9. Well its the end of day 1. I decided to start the worst jobs first, so today I have spent several hours removing the black sound deadening, all excess metal brackets have been cut off too. It doesnt get more boring really. Then I had my coffee break sat in one of the new seats..(my one..on the pass side:whistling:) that cheered me up.:cool3: So here are some boring pics and than a couple of the new seats. In keeping with the project these are Extreme seats. Tillett B6F FIA approved side mount seats.FIa side mount brackets with dinamica suede panels and extra mount points high up the side and on the headrest.. i have already done the install for Bob to his prefered height and leg stretch with a custom fabricated mount. the passenger side will have the side mount brackets bolted straight to the floor same as my car. It will be low and well back needing a lightweight footrest installing for pass support. More chipping and scraping tomorrow................................. I have just been informed that there will be a Sard rear wing coming later to fit. Its huge I think:1eye:
  10. Tomorrow will see me starting on the tranformation of Bob's slicktop from a fast road car to a much more extreme track car. As with the original project to create the car i'm delighted to be involved in this next round of modifications. Bob brought the car(as a rolling shell) to me on Saturday and we spent some time discussing the work to be done. I also took the opportunity of making a start on seat mounts/position while i had Bob to trial fit.:smartass: Being securely located in your preferred driving position is an essential part of quick lap times. The brief for the revised car is to create a competent track/strip/sprint/hillclimb 300ZX. Many of the events to be entered specify the car to be road legal. In reality the car will be trailered to events so the need for creature comforts is minimal. There are three goals to achieve... 1. More power. 2. Less mass(weight) 3 More downforce. The combination of these three elements will be more speed. And its speed that counts The big news on the more power front is the installation of a full Kyle Puckett built engine. formerly located in the 2+2 that Madmax(on this forum) had built and now owned by Bob That isnt part of my job thank goodness. Less weight and more downforce are tho and tomorrow i will be making a start on the weight saving task. I will basically follow the same route as I have done on my own car and also what forum members Jaffa and EssBee have done. We all use the lightest car to begin with ... the 2 seater slicktop. So hopefully those of you with an interest in the motorsport side and of going faster will find something of interest in this unfolding tale.:winkiss: Those of you who are more concerned with modified lights. leds in everything, amps, subs, woofers and retrimmed interiors should stop reading now:whistling: Initial pics and more detailed spec to follow tomorrow......
  11. Use some wet n dry. about 600/800 grit. Use it wet. Just a light rub will do it.
  12. Put it up for grabs on Shiply. Lots of car movers on there. Its quite a cut throat game too.
  13. When I saw the title i thought "Hoorah!!! the end of Chavmeet Eastwood.:sorcerer: Then I realised its just the last for this year. Anyways I hope you all enjoy it.:cool3: Dont save a space for me tho pleeze:smartass:
  14. There are quite a few urban foxes around my street as well. You can sometimes here them screeching at each other. But I think badgers are still more rural?? Do you live in the country/small village?
  15. Came downstairs this morning to find Basil Brush stealing the bird food and hiding it in the lawn LOL!!:2guns:
  16. As the verts are all series 2 and onwards they will already have the TT front brakes
  17. This has been covered several times. Have a look for posts about it.
  18. Pity it wasnt held at Santa Pod. there were potentially another 5 cars that might have entered. And dont give me that old chestnut about queueing all day. I had my four runs and a time summary by 10.30. Thus leaving me free to enjoy the show for the rest of the day. 6 sec Jet car:cool3: The Bradshaw 350Z (amazing):cool3: Good show n shine. Including a Bayside blue 300ZX and a Candy red 280Zx Drifting demo + rides. Monster Trucks( given a big thumbs up by Jaffa junior!) Modest turnout of Trade stalls. the usual hot n tasty food in the cafe and several other food vans to choose from. Marshalls and Santa Pod staff were as helpful as a helpful thing in general and the day went well(IMO) I think we had around 12/14 cars in total. And a well known ex racing Z club member too!!:whistling:
  19. It isnt now!!! Parcel wrapped. just waiting on PM with address
  20. Nice Pic Mark. Here is mine ... possibly taken by the same person??? LOL!!
  21. Nobody is going to laugh. If anyone is thinking about it I will just get Bri/Znut to beat the living shit out of them. Credit to you for having a go.And Ian also.
  22. Can others who ran please post time up on this thread?? It will help us all learn.
  23. Like this.... so you can see all the info in one line.. Here are mine......................with some comments on what was happening. 1. 15.09 @ 89.62 60ft 2.17. Goodish launch but lifted off early to go into 4th gear 2. 15.15 @92.53 60ft 2.13. Goodish launch kept the foot well down in 3rd across the line. So better terminal 3. 15.12 @ 92.16 60ft 2.13 Repeat performance. Could have been better as I bogged down a little off the line despite launching at almost 5000rpm 4 15.24 @ 90.84. 60ft 2.07. Nailed it off the line with a full burnout and almost 6000rpm launch . 60ft time within 1/100th of my PB. ET poor to to high rev "stutter" in 2nd and 3rd. Overall. Strong headwind lowered all my terminals from 94/95 mph which is where I should be. Track prep good for launch but conditions not so good at top end due to high wind. This affects lower powered large cars more than little cars or cars with high BHP. Only four runs to get it all together just isnt enough really. just for comparison here is a run from York last week 14.83 @ 94.35mph. 2.23 60ft
  24. Yes indeedy Steve it was a good day. A decent turnout of 300s too on the stand. New faces... old faces.....young uns.... oldies. NAs TTs. Stripped out cars... show cars... stock cars....cars that are "works in progress" we had it all today. It just goes to show what a great and diverse club this is.
