  1. LOL!! So do I!!! Will let you know when its fitted Wont be able to get a valid test till next year tho at the pod or York Raceway. By which time my "new race mechanic" will have helped me fit the uprated engine( after only 4 years!!!)
  2. In practice I dont think the change wil be "significant. Remember we dont have an F1 driver at the wheel :whistling: We are hoping to run with a much lighter fuel load at all times.
  3. Great! That means I can check up on ya all without making a trip to Bulwell!!!:whistling:
  4. Well Paul n me have finished stripping the car . We have identified some remedial work to be done in a bit but in the meantime my pal dropped the car off at Bodymech today. So Im sure the guys will be busy on it tomorrow and might even post up some pics..................... Meantime Paul is going to help me do a diff swap on my slicktop. We might even get time to put my Twinz splitter on??????
  5. Well time is ticking on.... Paul n me have been busy on Bob's car but most of what we have done is boring stuff so we havent posted much. Its nearly ready to head off to the Bodymech workshop now... We have decided to reduce the size of the fuel tank to help reduce /eliminate fuel surge. The SWB tank is an interesting saddle design and lends its self to being cut in half!! One of my tame fabricators has got the job. Meanwhile Paul has put the subframe back in. We decided that a flat boot floor would have several benefits including a small weight saving. The main benefits are improved appearance and the emergence of a tidy area to install the fire extinguisher and NOS bottle. The battery is moving over from the right rear corner to behind the pass seat area. Less cable so better performance and coupled with all the fuel on the same side the L to R weight distribution should be better once the driver is in. Up front I have ordered a trio of new bottles for fluids. These will all be mounted in visible positions instead of hiding under wings etc. The car is now difficult to jack up quickly as its pretty low so Im am getting new jacking points welded in to facilitate a one step jack up with a low entry racing jack. Hopefully this will end the damage to the sills. Pics....................
  6. LOL Ian I dont either. Im worse than you. I saw this "warning" on the forum tonite about someone knocking down my garage.:scared: I will just lose mine as I have no idea where to start. Maybe some kind moderator can move my garage for me????
  7. I have owned and driven a 2+2 targa car for a short while . Its not an experience I could repeat. Ever. i simply didnt like it. We dont need to get in to a debate about it. It was that simple for me. Its not a model I would ever want to own and drive again. End of. Otherwise I would have taken the trailer and £6K on Saturday. Once it was runnoig I would have loaded it .
  8. the ones on my pictures in this thread are AVS but Rob has multiple sets of wheels.... Hes a bit of a collector!!! Iv got my eye on some of them although I really dont need them......:innocent:
  9. Its a lot more than that now Jeff IIRC. And the SWB one is no longer available
  10. So today I made the long trip south to Wokingham to meet Rob.aka Boomin 33. I went to buy something from him not related to his 2+2. He also needed a starter to get his car running. Rob tempted me down with a good deal so I could "help" him get the car fired up. So we dragged it outside . Jacked it up . swapped the starter. fiddled with a bit of a loose wire... AND............................. It fired up within 15 secs!!!!! I was next to the engine when it did . No rattles or knocks. Not even a tappy lifter. Settled down remarkably quickly given that it hasnt run in two years. At the rear only steam from the exhaust as you would expect on a cold morning. No sign of any smoke. Sounded very sweet . Rob drove it forward a few yards and then reversed back on the drive. no sticking clutch or brakes. Here are a couple of pics............................ As this is my thread and not on the for sale thread I can say what I saw and thought................... Unused and unloved for two years it needs a wash an brush up for sure. There are/will be the odd detail needin "tidying" Try and see past that and read the spec sheet Rob has posted up. This car is a quality build using high quality parts. I didnt make a full examination as Im not buying but.................... Cobra Imola Carbon fibre seats. Virtually "Nascar" grade cage. A custom Stainless exhaust thet has clearly NOT been made at Longlife/Kwik zorst or any other cheap franchise. Work of art springs to mind Motec management . The Farndon billet crank would set you back over £2k alone if you wanted one and you would have to wait 3-6 months for it Its a UK car but is one of the cleanest underside I have seen.. I wasnt a fan of the front end... but it does suit the car and is nicely done. Quality CF bonnet and rear wing which WILL produce downforce on track. Dunno what side mount intercoolers are on it but the look Big and as new I could go on... but I wont. Im not advertizing it and Im not on commission. But somebody needs to get this. Tidy it up and use/enjoy. It will hold its head up high at any track day you care to take it to. In 5 years time this will be a £10K car IMO
  11. I catch something every time I go fishing!!! The regulars who know me dont fall for it but somebody always takes the bait:biggrin:
  12. OOOOOH you are nosey!!!:tt2: You will just have to wait n see about the paint scheme!!!!!!:biggrin: Agreed. What the members dont see is the fact that you have done all the hard graft of subframe and tank removal while I just passed the tools to you:innocent:
  13. well I used the method to move a Zed last year that had been "parked" in the same spot for 6 tears. Had to do it to get it on the trailer. Normally its the pistons that are seized. The rust build up on the disc not covered by the pad prevents it from turning. The pad isnt usually stuck very hard to the disc. Light tap with a happen . Knock pins out with drift and lever pads ou.t. One pad per disc usually does it The alternative is to slacken off the caliper mounting bolts a little to give some space for the disc to turn.
  14. And I have NEVER been to Quickfit in my life. Thats how I get tyres off rims to weigh them in, cos no metal merchant will take them with tyres on.:whistling: Just dont ask how I get rid of the tyres!! LOL!!!:innocent:
  15. So I said to the guy.... can you take a tyre off a rim for me ?????????????????
  16. Take the pads outta the calipers. Simples!!!
  17. 25kgs of wiring....................bye bye!!! Freeing up some useful real estate... and losing enough weight to mod the jacking point:tt2: Getting rid of one of my least favorite mods done by others..............:innocent: crudely made and installed in an inaccessable place......
  18. Im gonna miss them doing breakfast... and lunch too!!!! There is no malice in my highlighting mid season "imperfections" Winter rebuild is the time to put them right . I have the luxury of time to study .. research...purchase... and then fit. Ben had none of these luxuries.Everything had to be done on a very tight time schedule and a minimal budget apart from the crash at Mallory the car finished all the events it entered without any real issues. So hats off to Ben and his team. Even Dan at Advanced Motorsport has done some installs that were less than perfect....I have just removed one today.! I will try my hardest. Having extra muscle and input from Paul is already paying dividends. The muscle will come in to play soon again as we have discovered that you need to drop the subframe to get the petrol tank out on a SWB:thumbdown: apart from re instating damaged stuff Im looking to get the final weight down again with removal of anything that isnt being used any more. Im also focussing on making "on event" jobs faster and easier. So no more overflow bottles hidden under wings etc.etc Easy access jacking points are on the list too. I just need to be sure I can do it without adding any extra weight. Im just sick to death of the front wings getting pushed up by incorrect jacking. It isnt an easy car to jack up now ... but it will be soon:thumbup1: Few pics to follow...... laterz
  19. no they are HEL braided lines with a red plastic coating.
  20. Follow the red pipes coming from it .... and then have a guess
  21. Virtual drink to you!!! Front rotors are the "wrong way" round. Heat is suppposed to be vented away from the centre indeed and the vents job is to extract it. Strangely the rears are correct??? I hope you are not planning on fiting that brush as a permanent feature!!!! Yes I like to be busy. Its a good way to mitigate the effects of increasing old age. Keep the mind active and do as much physical work as you can manage. There is always some tedious drudgery to get thru first before we can get on to the "new bits" etc
  22. Its the NOS line!!! It will be getting redone!! The clutch line is scorched cos its not secured to the body.!! Thats on the list too. what about the brake disc picture then??????????????????
  23. After a hard but fairly successful season of events Bob has dropped the car off with me for a major makeover and revision. As before I just have the rolling shell. Jimmer at Power Zed has already removed the engine and box. He will be doing a strip down /inspect/replace routine on the Kyle Puckett engine. Bob has dropped the gearbox of at Advanced Motorsport engineering at silverstone for a similar strip/inspect/replace routine. The rest arrived at my place last weekend .... looking a little worse than when it left in the spring!!!! The brief from Bob is long and detailed.................. but it starts with a reinstate of the 99 spec front with splitter and the TwinZ rear bumper. I already obtained a good used 99 spec from Mikey Bean and I have a new Twinz rear from Mark Derbys group buy. I will get a new sheet of ally and make another front splitter. good job I kept the template!! There are numerous detail improvements on the schedule too. More details to follow! Probably the most important/significant is a new custom loom for the car. Over the development period of the car numerous items have been added by several people. The result now is a total mess of wiring everywhere with no one personknowing exavtly what is joined to what!!! This winter I am lucky that our new race day team member Paul is helping at my place with all the work. Im simply getting too old for some of the harder physical jobs needed. In addition the newly formed Bodymech team of "Boldy" and "Manta V8" are doing the panel fitting and giving the whole shell a fresh coat of paint inside and out. so Im sure everyone will be adding to the thread as they get their quota of jobs done. So a few pics meantime and can you spot the brake problem??? I have also highlighted some fittings that need "improving" Check out the rats nest of wiring too!! ......................
