  1. You are welcome mate. I hope you found it useful.
  2. Well it was too good an opportunity to pass up on Joel. It highlights lots of stuff that is reviled about my car..... Caravan rear lights, silly tow strap, chavtastic bonnet pins , trim all missing, loud orange paintwork, no spoiler,no targas, no turbos etc etc.:whistling: Here is one I took today LOl!! I was planning on a return trip to Three Sisters but the weather was poor so I didnt go. I have already seen some pics of a Subaru that crashed at the same bit of the circuit on a wet/greasy track.:scared: Im gonna park it up now as its even worse to drive in shitty weather than it is in good weather. So possibly the last pic of 2018. shame someone parked that Ford Mundane estate in the way:thumbdown: Wait a minute.. thats my Mundane parked there:yes:
  3. OK Russ. So yours is a "road car" not a "track type car". The following is my simplistic guide to fitting/setting based on your situation not my car/situation. 1. assemble springs on damper units. 2. wind the spring perch/collar up till there is no free play in the spring, ie it doesnt rattle. 3. Wind it up a few more turns with one hand. This will give a "little" pre load.. Leave at that for now . 4. Set the damper at its lowest/softest setting manually. Forget the Electronic bit for now. 5. Set the overall length of the damper at a middle setting, no need to lock the collar off atm. 6. Put car on a level hard surface and measure all four arch to ground distances. Important. 7. Fit all four units to car after removing OE units. 8. Remeasure all four arch to ground distances. 9. adjust the length of new Tein units to the same arch heights. . 10. Lock off the collars.. What you have done now is fitted your new units and ensured that all existing camber and tracking have remained the same. Drive car. Then decide what you want to alter. Fit EDFC gismos If you want to alter your ride height then bear in mind that altering it will also affect camber and toe and castor.. Professional measuring required with costs.
  4. Before you do anything......do you know what the spring rates are???
  5. Yep!! It was a decent morning here in Notts today so I went out for a short run and took a couple of autumn shots.
  6. Clamp it in the vice and put power to it. You should be able to check if it goes fully in. Its not 100% a test of whether it will turn an engine as you cant load it up on the bench.
  7. What spring rates?? What type of top mounts?? Are they new?? Used?? Are they independent height adjustment??? What car are they going on?? Why do you want/need coilovers??
  8. Me too. Im sorry to hear the news as I was thinking of coming to the NEC to have a look at it. Agreed.
  9. Tracking check done. virtually correct but they have just centred it up a touch. Running with no toe either way. I took the car for a quick blast. It felt great on its new tyres and settings.. Ready to get back on track.
  10. Oh! you have got one vote already.
  11. No idea who he is. Its just another newspaper type publicity stunt IMO Its all over facebook. Im tired of seeing it in every other FB group. Not worth commenting on. Next.....
  12. Cheers Andrew. Track time at Japfest Silverstone is looking likely for me as I dont wanna stand about all day looking at a row of OEM+ 300ZXs.:whistling::innocent: Do you still want to see what its like riding shotgun?? I promise not to crash!:scared:

  14. All back together now. Some scuffs have compounded out. I have booked it in for a tracking check on Monday. I will also be able to look underneath when its on the ramp for tracking for a final inspection.
  15. It sure is Gary. It doesn't do many miles in a year but they are hard driven miles. It will soon be ready for action again. I have straightened the wing and trial fitted it. Passenger door opens again without catching and it all looks OK from a distance.. Since the wheels were off I took the opportunity to fit some new tyres.
  16. I spent some time today assessing the accident damage. Pass door was catching on the wing which was pushed in. Front of wing had a fair size dent in it. The good news is there is no visible shell damage or suspension damage. I have straightened the wing roughly back to shape and the door opens OK now. There is a dent in the door which will push out, fill and paint when I paint the front. I havnt time at the moment to skim the wing and paint it. Likewise the front bumper needs repainting. That can wait for another day. I will just bolt it all back together for now so I can get back out in the car.
  17. Here you go Howard. Picture of the install.....
  18. Its highly relevant. The SWB is a different car to the LWB. At the risk of stating the obvious the wheelbase is different as is the weight. Si's car probably weighs nearly 1600kg. Your car is probably around 1450kg. My NA slicktop track car only weighs 1300kg. So putting the same suspension on all three cars will give three different results. Dont forget also about tyre profile. Going from a stock 50 profile on a JDM 16" wheel to a 30 profile 19" will make a huge difference to the feel of the suspension. As it happens I have the same Meister set up as Si and Joel. 6/4kg springs. Both their cars are beautiful relaxed but taut GT tourers . However the same set up on my car produces a very different animal.... and not one many members would enjoy. As you have already seen suspension is a complex business!
  19. Ride stiffness is determined by damper setting and spring rate. What spring rates have you been looking at??. Car weight is a factor to add in to the mix. Harshness and noise transmission in to the shell are affected by the type of mount you use. Are you looking at pillow ball type or solid rubber type??? Also bear in mind that some coilover kits do not have separate ride height adjustment but rely on spring perch adjustment to alter height. That isnt ideal as you cant get the preload set correctly, which messes up the overall spring performance. In extreme cases it can result in springs being loose on full droop. You then need additional helper springs to maintain safe spring location.
  20. An interesting choice Andy. With a 200 treadwear number that should prove quite grippy when warm. There are enough grooves to clear water in most circumstances. The stiff trackday sidewall will keep it nicely planted on cornering. I suspect caution will be required on very wet motorway surfaces. IMO
  21. Its bolted to a custom steel bracket that I made, which is then bolted to the lower rad support panel. It is strong enough to tow the car from any situation, the fabric strap allows for quick fixing by a racetrack recovery truck and a pull even from an extreme angle.
  22. The big tyre wall cushioned the impact and did its job well. Thre is no danger in it putting me off. I will be back on track next season. The Z32 slicktop is a very strong shell. I am strapped inside tighter than a tight thing in a full harness and sat in a high quality bucket seat which is very securely bolted in . I also have a braced half cage fitted. And of course we all have helmets on.
  23. Im sure the cells will regenerate now the red mist has cleared.! I was really on one I have to admit.:innocent: I came out on track the last of the eight in the session and had already overtaken two or maybe three of them.
  24. If you constantly push your car and yourself to the limit on a track lap after lap then it is inevitable that one day it will go wrong. For me today was that day.:scared: I ran out of traction, road and talent all at the same time. The back end stepped out to the left on a fast uphill right hand bend. I failed to catch it and the car shot off the track in to the tyre barrier on the inside of the track. It was a fairly substantial impact. Nothing broke on the car tho so I was able to drive home. :thumbup1: The front end bodywork needs some TLC. It wont polish out!! I am fine. The paramedic checked me over post incident. apart from a faster heart rate and elevated blood pressure the only problem he could find was a complete lack of working brain cells!! Good job that was the last planned event of the season. Couple of pics to have a look at.:biggrin:
  25. Same guy Ian. He lists on Ebay and fb.
