For those whinging about cameras etc
Three days with 'Bubba' might mean taking a break from riding anyway :p So perhaps a ban would have a similar effect?!

NZR MSN Messenger servers?
If you don't require the chat facility to go beyond the bounds of your company, uou could always install the corporate version of MSN. (You'll require exchange server 2000 for it to work). This way, all people within the company can chat with one another, and you can make sure their screen-names are within the bounds of decency, since they only show up as their exchange server / active directory user ids. BT made it their preferred internal messenger about 2 years ago now. Although I can't help feeling it was a shame to end all the endless but highly amusing conversations that i'd find myself in with duffer, chrisC etc. 2p Simon.

NZR Measuring bandwidth usage
Hi Mac300zx, Depending on who your current ISP is, they will probably be upping your connection to its maximum speed soon anyway. You might also find your ISP has an online facility to show your current billing-months worth of usage. (If they don't you could always give them a call) Hope this is of some use Cheers Simon.

voltage leak
I agree. Also, a one amp drain is a considerable amount. Alarms / immobilisers should only pull a hundred milliamps max. For what it's worth, you should be able to leave your car a month and have enough juice in it to start. Regards Simon.

just want to know if Ive got a leg to stand on
Stainless steel comes in different qualitys and mixtures. The cheaper stuff has a high percentage of normal steel in it - rather like cheap kitchen knives that get rust spots! Still I can imagine the annoyance! Simon.

Junk your aircon!
To be honest, I wouldn't expect a punch up nor even a soaking at billing next year :) I would imagine the cooling effect to be greater in this cooler weather anyway, I guess in the summer you wouldn't notice.

Junk your aircon!
Hmm, I think there's two sides to this coin: 1. (Posed by Willieo etc) Even if it was -20 outside, and assuming the thermostat was working correctly, the engine would still warm up to normal temp ~85C and ONLY at this point would the thermostat open slighty to let a little collant flow into the rad. 2. (my preferred reason) The second argument is this: because thermostats open a little very early on, it is actually possible to run slighty cooler - but probably only when driving, (when the rad is transferring more heat to more cooler air) i.e the thermostat does just go 'ping' and open when the engine is at the right temp, rather, it creeps open gradually, thereby have a slight cooling effect of water which still isn't at the ideal temp. Removing the condensor, or anything that impedes the ait flow to the rad will exaggerate the cooling effect simply because more air is passing through. Hope this stops a punch up :) Simon.

total seal piston rings
In my engine's previous state of build I had totalseal rings - Very little in it actually beween them and OEM rings, except they took a little longer to bed in. i.e engine was a little smokey for about 700 miles. However I'm currently running JE pistons with JE rings - and oil control is perfect. No smoke from day one. Hope this helps Simon.

Cam belt slipped?
lol - not sure now that happened! I usually only check through the first 2 or three pages worth of threads just to see what's been going on. I must have clicked the 'last page' button or something! So Chris! How's the car as of 2005??? :headvswal

Cam belt slipped?
My reasoning for it not being a sliped belt, is that Chris mentioned the engine ran ok for about ten seconds. If the belt had slipped, the engine would sound very unsettled at any time and any RPM wouldn't it? Anyway, enough of this keyboard diagnosis! :) Chris, hope you get it sorted soon mate.
-
Cam belt slipped?
Sounds electrical to me Chris. Perhaps you ought to hang on to those engine slingers for a bt longer! Hope you get it sussed soon.

Fire out of my exhaust!
Hi Mike, Since rebuilding the engine, have you added or changed anything else? e.g a new chip and / or more boost?? It does seem strange since you state that the engine ran ok for the first week before the problem came to light. I'd guess something electrical. The trouble with these aging crispy wiring looms is that they sometimes really cause trouble after being disturbed, and taking the engine out means every single connector has been moved. Check list: Have a look to see if there's oil in the throttle bodies - hopefully not Check PCV's are closing fully Check PTU connections - especially the coil pack side connector Borrow a ConZult! Hope something here is of help!
