  1. try pulling the needle out slightly, if they are pushed in too much when refitting it can balls it up, so pull it out slightly then try it.
  2. Well im not going to say too much, but i think a big thanks are in order to kaza steve After a few PM's (hes a fecking top bloke on the biggest of levels) ill be learning to weld, once i think im good enough im getting the panels off of bantambunny and will be welding my own car. :D Wont be touching the car until im good at welding though. but watch this space. now wheres boldy for some hints and tips :D THANKS KAZA STEVE your one in a million :D
  3. i think if i hadn't already got the new engine to go in, or the gearbox to replace the knackered one, im sure id actually be thinking about selling it. But as i have the drive train to make it at least move on its own steam, think the best thing to do would be get it working mechanically, and then sort the body work so it lasts longer.
  4. Jeff can you have a look at my "totally gutted" post and see if you could give me a quote for welding work? or would i have to bring the car too you? Sorry for thread highjack
  5. So, how many attempts did it take to get a photo of the timing mark? But on a more serious note, with the timing out, is it safe to bring the car up to temp first to do the timing, I've always wondered this.
  6. Right, having sat and thought about it for a while, plus talked with the Mrs, the plan is, stay on track and get the engine and gear box done, then get the welding jobs patched for now, just enough to last till next year, and then when the car goes to the body shop to get the abflug put on, get some smooth side skirts and get the welding work sorted out properly, at least that way its done then and wouldn't need doing for a good 20 years. Colour will be staying blue, but will be going bayside blue as originally intended on my red one. So im going to keep the car. Was gutting for a while there though as from the looks of it, it really did seem worse than what people are saying. but hell if it keeps this one on the road, sills and body work welding can and will be done. Just need to get september out of the way first and start getting my parts together for the build next year. Will also get under the car again tomorrow and have a proper ganders and make sure ive found all welding that needs doing.
  7. i know what you mean, and if i had the spare cash to get my self a mig welder i would, and practise on metal I've got strewn around my garage, but i cant at the moment. Im a planner, i like to know where my cash is going from one month to the next, which is why a lot of the time you might hear me say "ill be ok after...." because ive basically budgeted up to the end of September. not really much i can do unless i sell some car parts. Its one of the things ive always wanted to learn, just always ended up putting it on the back burner.
  8. i suppose i don't really have anything to lose by trying.
  9. i take it you renewed the PCV's due to a smoking issue? could be some residue oil being burned off from the exhaust.
  10. Well it past a MOT before, with that mess of a fix. As my mrs said jane, "think of it like this, once its done is it going to need doing again any time soon?" to which my reply was, "not the same part of the car, well not for a good few years", Just means ill have to move, getting the ablfug and respray closer to the beginning of next year rather than around april / may time In other news, the turbos on the new engine are coming off quite easily, didn't even need to give them much effort to get the nuts turning. only 1 nut holding the drivers side turbo onto the car, and 2 holding the passenger side on at the moment, need to modify a 13mm ring spanner though to get on one of the bolts as the head is too big to fit between the manifold down section on the turbo housing and the bolt.
  11. looks like the start of turbo oil seal failure. could try changing the PCV valves, but i think you would still have the same problem.
  12. Embedded the videos for you bud.
  13. think im going to do this the way i said about to start with, get the engine and gear box in, and then concentrate on the welding once the car is running. might stick it through the MOT with that filler in place and get it done after September when i can afford it.
  14. think ill calm down a bit and think through what im going to do with the car. I wont break it, id much rather sell as a whole and let someone else break it. If you say that part isn't that bad, i could always get my mate to plate it for now and get it all done properly next year. and just concentrate on getting the engine and gear box in. Mechanical side of it. im not fussed about, as it gives me something to do when i get the chance. i just hate seeing big holes in my cars.
  15. photo shopped, as he said in the first post.
  16. mate im not a welder so have no idea how to go about any of it. don't really want the car sitting there, was hoping to get the new engine and gear box in, plate the hole on the drivers side for the MOT, cut a bit out of the side skirt and get the rear plated for now just to get it past an MOT, and get all the welding properly looked at next year when the car goes to the body shop to get a abflug type 4 fitted to the front and sprayed up. To me that patch of filler, makes the car seem very dangerous, i have to put my kids in it as well when its on the road, and i want it to be safe for them. Everything ive found on this car that needs sorting out has been slowly eating at me as i cant get a lot of it done until after september, then seeing that i think just topped off the icing on the cake so to speak.
  17. just wish i could weld to be honest. but as i cant, got a feeling when everything is striped back, its going to be one hell of a big job.
  18. Drivers side sill inline with the door hinges Not the best photo, but this is the rear sill Top of photo is my side skirt thats going to need removing to get the rust sorted out. As i said daz, i just cant do anything with the rust now, not with the passenger side like that until after september.
  19. don't think im going to break this one, don't really want to rip it part. if anyone wants it, make me a offer via PM. ill throw all my 300zx parts and bits in with it, including a engine that works, and a gear box, plus 99spec rear spoiler that needs a respray. perfect condition passenger seat. just want things gone now i think.
  20. yeah but with no engine or gear box to sell, im going to be losing a large amount of cash on it. that could potentially go towards a new car. Think i might just give up on the zeds to be honest, great looking cars, but once they start rotting, there really isn't much you can do but postpone the inevitable. There is more welding than just that, that needs doing. im surprised the shell is still attached to the floor pan. Drivers side needs the side skirt removed, and the whole sill needs taking back to good metal, new bits made up and re-welded to make it solid. passenger side now has that massive fillered hole, no doubt by the time its taken back to good metal, there is going to be a very large chunk of car missing that will need to be made up. If i could weld, doubt i would be looking at it so bad, but as most of my cash is tied up till end of September with just little bits here and there to play with, i cant get the welding done in time for the MOT next month. Only thing i can do, is slap some tax on it as it runs out this month, and then leave it off the road till end of September when i can get it looked at properly. Once the welding is done, going to be looking at a respray again, and as im still not 100% sure on what colour the car is (there is absolutely nothing on the respray paper work to say what the colour is??) its going to have to be a full body respray. And i still need to sort out these turbo housing before fitting my new engine and gearbox.
  21. basically everything with in the red outline is filler.
  22. Well today thought id get under the car and have a look at getting the exhaust off, was nicely surprised to find that its got a full japspeed system on including divorced waist gate downpipes. so no elbows. Well was looking over the car as i had done before, checking out the welding that i know about, when i came across this. at first glance it looks ok, but then i realised that it has smear marks in it where someone has fillered, give it a slight press and could hear the filler cracking slightly. Give you an idea of where this is on the car, thats the front wheel on the right of the image, and you can see the vents of my wing. Not sure i want to even bother trying to get that fixed to be honest as its going to be a lot of work and i cant weld to save my life. not sure how the hell the car past the last MOT now. Totally disheartened now and not sure what to do, the gear box is shagged, the engine is shagged, and now the body work is shagged. so really the car is shagged, looks good on top but falling apart. complete waist of cash getting the new engine and gear box to be honest. im now actually dreading what im going to find under the side skirts. :crying: think i might just give up with 300zx's, i now know why on the last advisory it said "body work excessively corroded **dangerous**" would of thought that who ever got the MOT, would of at least got the problem sorted out properly.
  23. Something someone said yesterday is making me wonder, are the rear housing (bit that bolts to manifold and also the elbows) the same size on the manual turbos as they are on the auto turbos? If so crisis averted as i have a spare set of housing on the car at the moment
  24. easily done, think I've done it as well, but not put a post up as i sat in the car scratching my head then realised lol
  25. i can delete the post now if you want  but not sure about the other 5 members currently reading this post. think they might have seen it.
