IN car PC
Just make sure it has an image inverter otherwise you are looking at a picture where left is right and right is left .... ;) I've recently been in a big US-stylee 4x4 which had a little tft incorporated into the rearview mirror (aftermarket item). Really cool because it displayed images from cameras mounted in the front and back ... The car didn't have parking-assistance-beepy-thingy and the cams really worked a treat. CheerZ, Dan

Induction system
Ok mate - I'm about to PM you and I've put you on the list (new stock will be arriving at some point next week - depends on customs, etc). Here's the deal exclusively in conjunction with a confirmed "Smithy's Twin Induction" order: 2x A'PEXi induction filters (with gaskets and fitting bolts): £148 including Special Delivery. (Normal rrp would be £208 inclusive) I can only offer this low price if you've bought Smithy's kit. I am currently sourcing a new supplier for A'PEXi's and will be able to pass on a reduction in price to my customers (new price TBA shortly for single kit purchases). CheerZ! Dan

Can anyone recommend printers for business cards?
Yes they do but you'll have the VistaPrint logo printed on the back of your card. Mark, I've used EveryDayPrint (http://www.everydayprint.co.uk) many times with great success. They do my DTA business cards (and brochures) which (a) I've designed myself, (b) has a photo, © is printed both sides and (d) only cost £18 + VAT + delivery for 100 (business cards that is). Beauty of it is that their turn-around is about 48 hours! If you speak to them ask for Julie - she'll know me if you mention DTA-Motorsport and will look after you. Oh, and you can have as many or as few printed as you like! Good luck mate! CheerZ, Dan

possible oil cooler 'upgrade'
Hi Yas! A couple of things spring to mind - others may be able to elaborate on them or discount them entirely: (1) make sure you flush the autobox cooler - you wouldn't want to mix the fluids ... (2) volume drop - if putting the two coolers in series make sure you add enough fluid to make up the difference. Other than the above I would question where you're going to mount the additional cooler - there's not a lot of space to put therse ... Good luck mate! Dan

mongoose exhausts
Luke - are you trying to kill my business mate? ;) LOL And this should really be in the ZCentre section on the traders forum - I've been told off for doing the same in the past ... :o

twin pop's
As far as I'm aware it's for anything beyond 450bhp. Remember, when you install a twin pop and pushing that level of bhp you'll also need to upgrade the fueling system (incl. injectors) and ECU mapping. CheerZ, Dan

Which induction kit?
Here is a pic of the new 6" x 4" tailpipe. It isn't the actual system as sold for a 300ZX (and it isn't the best pic either) but you get the point. CheerZ! Dan

Which induction kit?
There are several "versions" of the powerflow systems out there. Some of them are made from inferior stainless steel and not welded properly. I'm certainly not saying that Performance Heaven is supplying such a system but one needs to be careful when buying exhausts not directly from a authorised dealer (again, this is a general comment as I don't know whether Perf. Heaven is a dealer or not). These inferior exhausts will rust and blow well before they should do and as with everything in the performance aftermarket scene - you get what you pay for. If it is a genuine Powerflow exhaust at that price then Perf. Heaven are not making any money on it and are probably throwing in labour for free. CheerZ, Dan

Enzo
There's an Enzo somewhere around my neck of the woods too. Have only caught a glimpse of it once but hear it race past on the bypass most Sunday's ... you can't mistake the sound of that engine for anything else. Incedentally - there was a heavily soiled albeit brand new DB9 parked outside Hotel du Vin in Birmingham this morning. As I was ogling the car (whilst walking to work) I nearly got castrated from walking into a bollard (note to self: don't look back whilst walking forward ...) and the owner came out of the little sandwich place across the road from the hotel and said to me "can afford the car - not the breakfast!" Me walking into that bollard made him crack a smile ... Lovely car though! CheerZ, Dan

NZR Petrol octane rating
Actually not a bad idea Andy! Had the privilege of "delivering" a new Audi A8 diesel - you wouldn't know it was an oil burner from driving it! Excellent car and if I had the dosh I'd seriously consider one. Damn - did I just think this out loud? ;)

Weird Deep Sea Creatures - Found At Phuket Seaside After Tsunami
Practically right mate ... The movement of the plates displaced the entire mass of water directly above the epicentre. This caused a wave to travel in a circular motion away from the epicentre. Out in the ocean this wave would be barely visible (in fact, the Technical University of Delft - The Netherlands - analysed satelite data and found that the actual wave was only about 30cm high as it raced across the Indian Ocean). In the open ocean the wave's speed would be able to build up to the claimed 500mph (not sure this is accurate though). It is only when the wave encounters shallow waters (ie coming closer to a land mass) that it starts to slow down and create a swell (the energy of forward motion has to go somewhere - in this case it causes the swell as the water slows down). This is when the wave becomes a tsunami. I have read a witness account who was on a beach in Thailand who stated that before the tsunami hit land two thirds of the water in the bay retreated towards the ocean before coming back. The mistake a lot (if not most) people made was to run away from the wave. This is of course an instinctive reaction but when confronted with a large wave on the beach the best thing is to run towards it and dive under it. The force of the water will drag you with it but at least you stand a better chance of surfacing behind the swell. This info is naturally useless to anyone who is not on a beach. I don't know about the rest of you on this forum but I've been doing my bit for the victims - donated money, clothes, food and my time. It's just incomprehensible what has happened and the amount of people who have lost their lives to this natural disaster.

Weird Deep Sea Creatures - Found At Phuket Seaside After Tsunami
I'm surprised these deepsea creatures are intact. Their body structures are build to cope with the extreme water pressure experienced at deep sea levels. When they are brought up to the surface many of them "explode" due to a lack of pressure ... Like SPRAE says, we know next to nothing about the deep sea. They are butt-ugly though ... suppose you don't need to be a pretty fish when you live in constant darkness ... CheerZ, Dan

NZR Petrol octane rating
And on a slightly related note: from which point does the pump meter measure the amount of petrol you're pumping into your car? Is it at the nozzle or inside the pump? If the latter then we're getting ripped off as there will be some petrol left in the hose and nozzle ... Good luck Smithy in getting the octane tested ... I'd be very interested what the actual octane rating difference is between Shell Optimax and BP Ultimate. Both claim to be 98 rated but as stated above, this could mean different things ... CheerZ! Dan PS : Paul - it was good to catch up with you at the AutoSport International Show last Friday. Sorry I didn't phone before I left the show but I had to go back into work quite unexpectedly.

trackers !!
Further to what I've written above, I have just found a new tracker unit at my local Maplin store. The product number is A24BT on maplin's website. Costs £199 for the unit with a further anual tracking subscription and anual gsm subscription cost. I've just been into my local Maplin's for something completely unrelated and bumped into this product. It appears to be a GPS/GSM based system which allows the user to track their vehicle through the internet. I have no idea if it is insurance approved (my guess is "no") but for £199 you can't really go wrong. Cheers, Dan

trackers !!
I've had various trackers on my car and one thing to look out for is that they are "bureau monitored". What this means is that they monitor the car 24/7 and if it is moved (ie stolen) without your consent then (1) they track the vehicle, (2) contact you to confirm the car is stolen, (3) ask you to obtain a crime reference number, (4) inform the local police force and direct them in real-time to the location of the car. This costs considerably more than the "standard" trackers where you, the owner, needs to inform the tracking company that the car has been stolen. The above procedure then kicks in. Systems like Lo-jack rely on the local police force having suitably equiped vehicles to track and locate stolen vehicles - like what Chris said. Tracking devices in general work on gsm frequencies. Put the car in an underground garage or go through a long tunnel and it won't be possible to track it. More sophisticated systems use both GPS and GSM signals and are by far the prefered method. The system I've currenly got uses this technology and this also allows the car to be tracked when I'm using it on the continent (so long as the gsm unit can "roam"). There are some products on the market which allows the owner to track the vehicle on a PC/Laptop. The software relays the vehicles position, speed and direction of travel every 30 seconds and displays it on a streetlevel map on your PC. Although this is a good system in general, there are two problems (1) it isn't insurance approved, and (2) they tend to be gsm based which uses triangulation techniques to get speed and direction of travel info. As soon as the car falls out of range of one of three transmission towers it becomes impossible to "fix" a location and the car may "disappear" from the screen for any period of time (same for if it is driven into a concrete building like a carpark). One system I've recently been given details of is from TrafficMaster. Aparently, their satnav system has a build-in tracking device which uses all of TrafficMaster's sensors (the blue sensors placed along most major roads) to monitor the car. Haven't been given pricing but this seems a good system from a well established company. I'm sorry if the above seems long-winded but its worth shopping around forearmed with as much information you can possibly get your hands on. Good luck! Dan

NZR - protecting website pictures from "right-click pirates"
Thanks for all the feedback guys - much appreciated. As you say, it'll never be able to completely stop people nicking images off a website but if I can make it a bit more difficult then that would be a good thing. Going to have a look at all you've suggested. Thanks! Dan

Smoothing bodywork: replacement aerial?
I have the same internal aerial that Matty bought (got it from Maplins - cost a whopping fiver!). Installed it very discretely along the top and side of the windscreen and it's absolute sh*te. It comes with a screw to ground it but it doesn't do much at all. Get a lot of "static" and as soon as you pass a lorry (or anything else for that matter) reception dies. If I hold my finger on the wire stuck to the windscreen then reception is a heck of a lot better ... Perhaps I've got a duff model, perhaps it's not grounded properly but I would defo agree with a statement made earlier that you get what you pay for. As I don't use the Zed that often at the moment, and when I do I prefer listening to the lovely sound of my excellent exhaust, I'm in no hurry to change the aerial. I have decided though that I'm upgrading to DAB in the not too distant future (my Alpine headunit is DAB ready aparently). Let me know how you get on Leigh! CheerZ, Dan

99/00 Version R
Hi Andy, I have actually looked into importing a Version R about two years ago. It is possible but you need to be very patient. These late model cars don't come up for sale very often and even less at auctions. I have been reliably told by a colleague in Tokyo that Zeds are getting rarer (must be because they're all coming over to the UK). This is pushing up the prices in Japan, in particular late models and heavily modified ones. Two years ago I was quoted £19,000 ~ £24,000 imported and on the road in the UK for '99 "R". To be honest, you're better off buying a far more reasonably priced '96 twin turbo and modding it to the same level as a version "R". I've recently had the pleasure of working on a very nice T-reg Zed which cost the guy somewhere in the region of £8k to get it into the UK and onto the road. Good luck! Dan
