What the Feck! was that...
Hi Guys, i need your expertise in ALL jap cars. There was i toodling along the dual carriage way at 50 mph, when a car overtook me at speed and braked late to the roundabout to turn left up a hill where only the brave overtake in the face of oncoming traffic, well what could i do.. i hadn't given the Zed a good blast to clear the cobwebs for a few weeks, so i followed it up the hill , now this went on for about a half mile, i ever overtook him but i did keep up, my bottle ran out before my right foot. Now my question, this car was deffo a Jap Motor, it was really low and wide at the back with a raised boot spoiler with downward curves at the end, not to dissimilar t othe 99 spec, The lights seemed to have horizontal slats or plastic. thats all i can remember, so has anyone got any ideas what it is? Oh one more thing, it was Red... Rich

fixing a smashed front end
Paul, thats a good idea, get it all prepared and fitted and call in a pro... JMW, Shame to, however , ho do you spot weld with a MIG welder? DragonB, dont think me plus my Bro and a neighbour could shift it...ever.. Reason i'm doing it, is Its My Car, Registered to Me, fully comp, with My lad a named driver. if i go through the insurance for this, ALL my policies for the zed, shogun and this car would go up,. I've already had to give my details to the local council when he knocked over a lampost. Thought about stripping it, but thought the damage wasn't to bad, the more i took away, the worse it got. Never mind, 500-600 quid maybe and sell on for 2K Moral? Dont have kids, but if you must, make them start work before they get a car... Rich

fixing a smashed front end
hi Guys, need some advice. My boy decided to wrap his colt around a hedge stump, could have been worse, he could have missed the stumps totally and gone right into a farmers front garden. Upshot is i'm going to fix it, i've stripped it down to its metal work and have removed what ever i can with bolts on. I'm now down to some chassis and engine support frames, i'm sure its just a matter of drilling out the spots and the piece will just come away. (i hope) tricky part is putting the new ones on. Reasons as follows. i assume i will need to spot weld it back on, i've never done spot welding before, is it fairly easy? if ive drilled out the previous spots, is it just a case of trying to find other places Can spot welderes be hired? Does the place to be welded need to be bare metal, ie no paint anybody done this before and can throw a few morsels of help my way. ANY help would be appreciated. Rich

trimming
Alan, Hi, just seen your garage, very nice, are the interior panels white or cream, (leather i hope) and when you say "backing", what exactly do you mean, leave the existing cloth on or remove cloth and cover in upholstery (what sort..). just for everyone's interest, the soft leather i bought off ebay actually comes out at £3.00 per square foot, and the shape seems to have been cut into a mini hide see below, Whereas the Jaguar Beige i'm looking at is £1.6 per square for and is a "real" hide.. (1.8m x 1.2m), feels a bit stiff though, maybe i'm not used to "real" leather.. 1st pic, ebay "hide" (marker pen for scale) 2nd Pic showing swatch for Jaguar Beige.

Legrath, thanks, did the panels have any "give" to them. Rich

trimming
Thanks Guys, some great advice...all different versions!! :confused1: I like the idea of the pot of glue, when i did my MR2 last year, the contact spray got everywhere On the one hand, removing the cloth will give me a Template, but also some rough surfaces, Leaving the cloth on would be nice to give a little give to it, but i could easily cock up the template. So what i'll do is to get a couple of small panels, and try each method with a thin soft leather hide ..which i ordered last week, it's a bit thin, but only £16.. Once i've perfected the technique i can order up the Jaguar Beige Hide i've found...mmmmm nice. So watch for my wanted thread for some free panels... soft leather here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170420600134&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1658wt_939and Regards Rich

trimming
Hi Guys, i've seen a lot of threads on re-trimming the interior panels with materials from e-bay/zcentre/own hide, well i'm looking at doing mine. All the panels i need to do are covered in cloth, they're not bare plastic (like my old MR2), so do i remove the cloth or bond the hide straight onto the cloth, if i do remove the cloth, how easy is it and would a layer of foam underneath be advisable. Cheers Rich

can anyone recommend an interior re-trim kit?
Simon, It's all i could find without going to places that supply Jaguar etc, As for the thinness, i agree it may be not quite fit the bull, but i was going to place foam sheet underneath, but if its no good, then its only 18 Quid wasted.. Rich

can anyone recommend an interior re-trim kit?
Hi, I redid my interior in my last car, an Mr2,see first pic, it was done in leatherette, it was okay but its not very flexible. I have bought some real leather http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170420600134&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1658wt_939and will have a go my self, its not that difficult, take the part off remove existing trim/clean up and add leather, you have to be careful what glue you use and how you glue it, but i' up for it. Hi Daz, good one, had us all fooled...well maybe just me..well its my first year and i haven't got to know you all yet. I wont get caught out next year.. What happens where the high level contacts the tailgate, did it interfere with the stock spoilers ends? if you know what i mean.. and did it require any cutting/blending. Also do you know the make/model of the high level spoiler? Cheers ric

Drain tubes
Lee-Man Hi,I was on the verge of doing something similar, but while i was at Vodkashots, he sussed the problem out. The clear looking tube that is visible when you get your head down the foot well you see this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/JeffTT/losetargahose.jpg Well what i thought had happened was that there was another tube that had come off which let the water out at the floor level to the ground. However, what ian found was a 3" long black tube with 2 1/2 " straight leading to a kinked 1/2" bit, between them was lip seals for a hole in the bulkhead. if you open the door and look down, about 6-8" down there is a 3/4" hole. This black pipe fitted up onto the clear bit in the picture and then the smaller bit is pushed through the hole, simple really. HTH Rich
