Starter Motor
Thanks guys, Martin (Gonzo12c) came around and between us think we sussed it. The top one is a stud and the bottom one uses a bolt because the ally flange is not like a lug with a hole but is open-ended, this allows the motor to be bolted on the stud then the over fixing is twisted to mesh then righted, Looking at it it looks like it IS a rounded lug thats broken As it was, the AA man who came out on Wed did a great job and its as solid as a rock. Thanks to all, Ah matt, i did find that online cat, very useful, only trouble was is shown the bolt but not the open-ended fixing, Big thanks to Gonzo for coming over if only for a chat, nice to meet members, Rich

Tapping from Engine
Not to sure ,but i sure it was a M10 x 30, hopefully i'll remove it at the weekend and re-tap the hole to M12, and either put some M12 studding in it (with thread lock or Araldite) or just use a bolt. Rich

Starter Motor
Hi Guys, in the picture below, it shows the Starter motor with the hole's misaligned due to the fixing coming loose. The epc shows a bolt, M10x30, What i need to know is, 1,.does a bolt go there or have i lost a stud and nut, and 2 is the other fixing (not shown ) which is above a stud + nut or bolt. It might mean getting down and dirty, but i'd appreciate it. Thanks

Tapping from Engine
Got an update for y'all, the noise started happening again, but before i could get home, i had to stop at the shop, 500yds round the corner from my house, yep you guessed it, even worse than starting with a big rattle, wouldn't start at ALL!! Managed to have a quick look underneath, the starter motor was hanging loosely from the top bolt..Dam, had to go out at that moment to Milton Keynes, got back about 1.00am, wrapped up warm and walked back to the zed whilst on the phone with the AA. Half hour later he turns up, in a nutshell, he couldn't get his trolley jack under, no towing point at the side, front lip to low to let him jack up the rear onto a set of dolly wheels. So he booked a transporter for this morning, not the usual flat bed, but one that picks it up and deposits it straight onto the back of the lorry, all for 500yds round the corner!! Before he confirmed it, i said i had an idea that i normally do, use the boot jack to raise it enough to slide the trolley underneath, he finally got it raised and bolted back on the SM, result, sort of. the bottom bolt that keeps falling out was tightened till it bottomed, and left about 4 mm gap between the underside of the bolt head and the SM. Well it started this morning, and so far so good, i think if it makes it to the weekend i'll try and re tapp the hole with M12, Well thats about the end of this chapter except the AA man was a bit of a petrol head and apart from drooling over my car (fool) he has just bought the new focus rs, like the one in green in the piccy but white. I've got some other questions and requests but i'll post them later I've got a theory about the reason for all my trouble, the weather...and local authorities. With all the bad roads and especially the pot holes that sprouted up after the snow, i think the vibration loosened the 2 bolts, Rich

Tailgate Lower Skin
Just an update, i saw Trick82 has a boot lip spoiler for sale (see pic ), compared to mine, his doesn't need clamps to hold it down...is it possible for grp items to "warp" if the conditions are right, for instance, if it was kept warm but in a twisted position, would it assume that new shape? Rich

High Temp!!
Just checked the oil, firmly between the the H and L, perfect, so, anyone got any further ideas, next would be the oil temp gauge, i'll put another one in and ass the results..now, if only i hadn't sent all my gauges to Vodkashots.. Question, if the oil temp HAD risen to 120 deg, would there be some evidence, ie smell, or anything else. Rich

High Temp!!
Just got back That was my first thought, so i'll pop out now and check it.. wait one

High Temp!!
Hi Guys, thought i'd get this down now 'cos i'm up at 6 and off to Windsor all day on sunday, so it'd be nice for some advice when i get back. Went out tonight to a do, all fine. after about 5 miles on the return journey my oil temp gauge in the pillar shot up to 125 Deg, usual is between 85 and 95, i was not driving aggressively. i pulled over to the hard shoulder and turned the engine off but still on Acc which kept the gauges on. looked under the bonnet and could see or smell anything out of the ordinary. Back inside and cycled the gauges (digital, they do a self check ) Temp no read 78 Deg, thats more like it. Carried on the journey another 10 miles, got home but then noticed the oil temp was still at 78 deg...dam! i also noticed my oil gauge reading was down, it normally sits in the marked area approx 60 but now showed lower, say 40. not to sure this all means but if anyone has some ideas, i'll be glad to read them tomorrow night Rich

MOT and Spots
Hi Guys Went to see my local car spares shop, and we were talking about spot welding, anyway it then transpired that all repairs where a part that was spot welded on and removed , must be welded continuously along its seams, ie you cant spot weld it back on. Has anyone come across this at all Cheers Richard

Wish i'd taken the Shogun.
With the G/F giving me a hard time over my scrape leaving the zed looking sorry for itself, decided to cover up the "indiscretion"...quick spray with the can and hey presto..you can hardly see it..

Tapping from Engine
Looks Like i've found the culprit, here is a picture from underneath looking at the starter motor, the clamping/positioning bolt has come out, i stuck a bar in there and started it up and there was no horrendous noise or sound when revved or idle. my question is what size bolt usually goes in there? or was it a stud? Cheers Rich

Tapping from Engine
Hi Guys, well i have some more info on this and would appreciate some advice, Went to see Vodkashots and he had a listen. he narrowed it down as coming from the gearbox. When you get down and listen it defiantly is. this would explain why i could hear it when kneeling down at the wheels, if i'd gone lower and back i would have heard it louder, Now this noise is more (rattling/pinging) is apparent on tickover in neutral, goes away when i slightly depress the clutch and is heard all through the gears progressively. The pinging noise gets higher in frequncy as the revs get higher, stopping when i assume it goes beyond our hearing range (might explain all those dogs running after me down the A14) So, is it the clutch? i have had no slipping in gear like you normally get, might it be the starter motor, we have no idea, there is 1 thing, just today, when i start the car, before it gets into full swing into idle, a sound is emitted that is really rough and load, just for half a second.. So, any help with my problem will be appreciated Rich
