Got one of these, and just wondering if anyone has actually fitted one themselves rather than send it off to the body shop.... if so, im after ways of securing it to the tailgate. The one i've got does not just 'sit' in the right place but can be persuaded with some clamps, is this usual?. From what i can see there are only 2 flat areas that come into face to face contact, which i hardly think would be enough to hold it in place with all the torsion going on.

Hi there, I have fitted one of these, Great fun! Not! done right it looks great but bugger to do.

after grinding the panel to bond the spoiler, you will need to blend and feather out the filler all the way back towards thr quater window otherwise you will get a bump,

how much did you let it go for in the end?

I really hate to say the actual amount but i was desperate, It had no mot and tax and needed a service. I swapped it for a tidy t&t 306 cab so i could shift it quicker.It ended up just over 2 grand! I spent more than that on it! ironic really as i sold it to raise money to get planning permision to build a house on the side of my house. Guess what permission refused! Twice! So pointless selling it at all. I had a buyer for my house with the planning permission that would have set us up financially so i surpose it was worth a shot at the time?? not so sure now

You need sika flex or similar to bond the panel, then P40 fibreglass filler to make the bridge between the panel and the skin, then bodyfiller to smooth, as mentioned, rough up the panel and skin with 180 ish grit snadpaper, it will make it easier to bond the two surfaces

Groover, hi, Sika Flex! is that all, no bolts or screws?? if you look at the pic of the underside of the panel, there's not too much contact area, concerned it will just pop of one day!

 

Makes me wonder if i should get another tailgate and take my time on it, and then re-spray the whole lot!

Hi Rich, you can use screws to hold it flush, while it bonds, then remove the screws once set. It wont go anywhere, once its bonded. Also once youve then used the P40 and bodyfiller it will be solid. HTH

Its probably not the tailgate thats out, it will be the smooth lip spoiler, that will have flexed or twisted slightly. It depends where it has been stored and for how long.

Just an update, i saw Trick82 has a boot lip spoiler for sale (see pic ), compared to mine, his doesn't need clamps to hold it down...is it possible for grp items to "warp" if the conditions are right, for instance, if it was kept warm but in a twisted position, would it assume that new shape?

You should of bought one of mine :tt2:

 

GRP can indeed move all the time. Try using some heat. this will make it turn all rubbery and easyer to play around with.

 

why dont you bond it then clamp it??

I will clamp it when boned, just worried about the torsion of the part pulling it free

 

How much are yours? out of interest

If you are worried, The ruff up the area where where it goes and use fiberglass paste like i said try some heat.

 

mine are £80 delivered. As for being a trader i have been one for ages and you bought the headlight panel off me :lol::lol:
