  1. changed the coil pack and plug with known good ones, turned it over with the plug not in the cylinder, it did spark
  2. right after my recent problems with my Zed i've just got it in my garage to attempt to fix it, but im a bit confused... i had thought it to be the passanger turbo... symptoms: oil leak from around the passenger side turbo, (cant see if its coming off the turbo or not, but its running down the passenger elbow, and is all over everything, hadn't noticed it before the problems) exhaust leak back of passenger side elbow, front passenger side cylinder not firing - getting power, plug and coil good, injector is working, some oil in passenger side intake but not as much as i was expecting, smoke on idle, from start up, white turns to blue under slight throttle, compression was ok a few weeks ago when i checked, all came of of the blue, was very occasionally lumpy on cold mornings and did slightly smoke first thing in the morning, (had always put it down to condensation from the stainless exhaust,) always cleared within 30 seconds to a minuet, it does point to the turbo but could it cause the cylinder not fire? either that or could it be a valve seal? its only done 60,000 ( import was about 30K in km, 30K in miles ), from its receipts serviced regularly, ran really well up till the other day? its a 1990 fairlady Z auto... running 313 bhp, so not really been pushed...
  3. i thought that, but on the oem kits, the drivers side turbo sits on on the outside of the manifold, the passenger on the inside, they have identical snails, i can easily clock a turbo to fit...
  4. right i need a clear answer, what is the difference between a drivers side and passengers side turbo, has any on got pictures of each side? because as far as i can tell the only difference is that the compressor wheel is clocked to a different angle, they have the same compressor and exhaust housing and the middles are the same, which if im right meen play time...:thumbup1: and that my Z might be saved from the scrap yard, as i have a T28H and if i get a second could deal with my current turbo problems... i think id need a different set of elbows but evrything else should match...:shifty:...
  5. yeah changed the coilpack, have just noticed its sitting a a pool of oil, which is comming from the passanger side , looks like possibly the turbo... so i guess thats it for my Zed its off to the great scrap yard in the sky... would explain why that cylinder wont fire, its sucking in oil from the turbo...
  6. few more bits of info, its a 1990, TT lwb import, it does have a tiny oil leak, less then a drop a day, but i cant find it so never fixed it, ill do a compresstion test tommorow but had done the whole car and it was all good only a few weeks ago..
  7. right took it for a drive last night was fine, then went to go to the post office today started fine, got less the 0.5 mile down the road and it started firing on 5 cylinders... its the 1st cylinder on the passenger side,i think it is still getting power, but not sure if its actully sparking,... and is getting fuel , but when disconnected it makes no difference, and on top of that there is now alot of smoke.....:helpsmilie:.. its white on idle but i can smell oil, and did appear slightly blue under slight revs...it appears to be holding temperature, so it cant be HG, and when i left home was running on all 6... the oil pressure seems normal too ????:cursing: really confused help help, its come out of the blue I've had no smoke what so ever before, and ran perfect up untill today...
  8. one of the clubs im with has all three of the 3.0 TT cars, the gto, supra, 300zx, and we have this agreement all the time, there is no simple answer, performance wise they're similar, except my z seems to accelerate for longer when the other 2 start to give up, the supra is hands down easier to work one, the gto is like a Z no space to work at all, the gto isn't that well made compared to the other 2, has had alot more faults, and as for looks all three are great looking cars but the Zed is a love or hate car, but at the end of the day i can see why you'd buy any of them, i made my choice, and im sure our arguments will continue... good luck with your decision ....
  9. dont worry i know what im doing, spent alot of nights fine tuning my old s13, by the look of it the Z's suspension is up to the job as is, well for the time being anyway... ive got an alloy rad and elecy fan waiting to go in, and was thinking of running without a front bumper, or maybe just removing the bonnet, as for weight im not going to take anything out because the balance on the Z feels right at the mo, if i take out weight it might send too much to the front/ back and mess it up, and as for tyres i actually found that if the front tyres are too sticky its harder to hold a drift as aposed to part worns its the first time the Z will go to santa pod so will have to get some pic's / videos, so i can see where it needs the money spent, might even start a project thread... as it gets more drifty..:thumbup1:
  10. well as soon as i've finished sorting out the brakes and suspension im going to be trying to race my Z, it was supposed to be entering an auto testing event but i missed the registration date... opps:stupid: only porblem is i dont want to fully track prep my Z im thinking of getting a second one just for track use.... although i have got my eye on an old an S30Z 240Z shell...:innocent: i found my Z to be very responsive, an S13 200sx(silvia) is too light, and under steers badly, the Z is the opposite, where as you need to handbrake an s13 or clutch kick it to get it side ways, you can use the weight of the Z to initiate the slide, hence why my auto can out do a manual S13. all you do is use the "hold button" before the corner to stop the gearbox prating about, and as for the engine... if a CA18DET can survive drifting then the VG30dett defo can, the CA18det is the worst engine nissan ever made, my S13 went through 4 of them, and because of the torque in the Z you dont need as many revs to spin the rear wheels up...
  11. before i got my new Z i had an S13 200sx, and i used to get it sideways all the time (private roads of course:whistling:)and i know they are really common drift cars, how come you don't here of Z32 being used for drifting, i did find a video with a few drift spec Z's in it, but that was it really, my s13 was a manual running 320RWHP decent suspension and brakes, yet my Z, which is a nearly standard '90 AUTO!! is so much better at drifting then the S13, was wondering if anyone has drifted their Z's, or knows why a Z isn't a good drift car? i've decided to take mine to santa pod in a few weeks to let it lose properly, just wondering how its going to cope along side the more common drifters...
  12. well i bought the car in Manchester, near my uni and brought it home to sussex, and just found out the chip that was fitted was not a super chip, it was a programmable chip fitted by Gerald dale motor sport in bexhill, and it turns out it was fitted back when the z ran a standard exhaust and filter ( back in 2003!!!), which explains the lack of power, im going to book it back in with them for a retune to its current set-up and get it re dyno'd, if it came from sussex, years ago im just wondering if its original owner is still about... small world.... thanks for everyones help
  13. thanks, im going to get the profec B more because i want rid of the manual controllers, will i need to get hold of a standard ecu eprom chip to replace the superchip? does anyone know anyone in the sussex area that knows what they are doing? was going to take it to gerald dale motorsport in bexhill i think? anyone used them?
  14. yeah one on each actuator, very bad setup, if they arnt exactly the same
  15. thanks alot everyone, the chip was fitted before i got the car only had it 1 month, the dyno was 313 bhp (at the flywheel) think its was about ~256 RWHP, i have to say i've never seen a dyno graph like the one i have, it makes barley any sense, the car desnt seem low on power just the figures do, ill try to up load the graph tomorrow see if anyone else can make sense of it... i believe it to be a "superchip" as in the brand, the exhaust and induction kit are up to the job, and it does have 2 manual boost controllers fitted ( don't worry then are going in the bin as soon as i get paid i can get a profec b) according to the hugely inaccurate boost gauge its still at stock boost levels, does anyone know any good dynos in the sussex area? will get it re done then. as for weight saving im only doing what can't be seen like spare wheel etc, as i like it my z the way it is, right down to the really heavy shag pile rugs lol correct me if im wrong, but with the profec B fitted, and the boost turned up, along with the existing mods, and a replacement chip i should be able to get the power up? im just trying to get it sorted before japfest, as i have track time and i dont want to let the side down...
  16. right im getting really confused... my z has a decent exhaust set up, decent induction kit, its super chipped, and still only seems to run 313 bhp .... its a TT LWB auto, and its had the box rebuilt, engine has recently had all its gaskets replaced, even before that its only done 57,000 miles... everyone said 400 bhp was easy to get, so what am i missing? i have 440ft/lb torque, where should i go from here?
  17. thanks for everyones help, but what about my bhp figure it does seem really low in the rpm range.... and the graphs stop just after that rpm, power stays level torque drops away at about 45degrees
  18. oh and is 313.6 bhp @3896 right? seems a bit low in the rev range to me...
  19. hi was wondering if any one knows about fitting a greddy profec b or similar boost controller to a Z? as thought they only controlled 1 solenoid? im really confused by this as surely you dont need 2.... that and i found 2 manual bleed valves on my new Z and they have got to go asap, that and how do Z's respond to atmospheric dump valves, as i think one of my recuircs is starting to go, and was thinking of a pair of HKS ones, but if they are anything like s13's every time the valve goes the car runs rich and smokes slightly, i tried it on 4 different S13's with 3 Different valves and it was the AFM causing trouble.... and does anyone have any recommendations for an air filter as much to my amazement a chipped Z running a full straight exhaust system still has the standard air box fitted???
  20. im normally around, tend to be at the us and smoking tyres meets in Sussex, but im at uni at the m,o so not about, next time somthing like that is happening post it up on here id bring my z along...
  21. I didn't make it to that meet as my old Z wouldn't cooperate, I just hadn't heard of any since then, anyone know???
  22. hi, was just wondering where and when the NW members meet, i've finnally got a new Z after my last one went mising:offtopic: was told somthing about 2ed monday of every month but dont know anything about it...?
