im with admiral, just me on it, but only TPFT on mine, as i had my old car wrecked by a polish lorry driver, that messed up my insurance, and then the theft fubar'ed it even more.

i know its not the rings the cylinder walls are too clean, no marks what so ever as the oil smells of fuel, im going to guess its a valve not working as it should, ie not closing, checked injector and plugs, so its not them, suppose it could be the ptu not firing at the right time,

right after a few days of fighting it again... i got the cylinder head off, and it dont look good, i was expecting there to be oil in the cylinder, due to either blow valve piston ring, or turbo... and there nothing like that help # the cylinder on the left is the one thats not firing, i dont know what it meens but compared with the good 2, its dryer, and generally more brown, looks almost burnt i dont know what it means, but there no oil in there? so can it be piston rings or valves?, im very confused...

i've had a Z since i was 19, strangely my Zs actually less to insure then my S13 was, had one of them from 17, but ever since some c**t stolen my black Z, insurance has shot up to a stupid amount was 1500 with mods declared, now they want 2100!!! more then i paid for it... i also want to know about this V8 s13??

21 (just) 90' TT lwb ( was daily drive untill it broke ) 89' sunny gsx coupe ( stand in for the Z, has an S13's CA18DET engine in it )

sorry this is a stupid question but, what tool is needed to remove the cylinder heads, all i know is i dont have one or know where to get one??? it looks like a big hex, but i dont know if its a special one or where id get one to fir my wrench...

miles per gallon
i did alot of trips between Sussex and Bolton, found that at 80 with some playing and a boot full of stuff, got about 350 miles to a tank of v power, (mines an LWB auto) so about 28 mpg, my record is 34 mpg, but thats not the point of a Z although im not sure about the size of reserve, my zed when the light comes on you have to pray your near a petrol station, although that might just be my Z...

thanks ill try that, i know which cylinder isn't working its the front passenger side one, but wont the position of the cylinder affect the seal? do i have to have the piston at the top or bottom?

hi, I've got a hunch, but i need some advise first, what are the symptoms of a bad valve seal? and of a bad turbo seal? and what are the chances of a well maintained Z, having a worn piston ring at 60000KM? i started to change my turbos and suddenly had a thought... i lost 1 cylinder as it started to smoke, with no warning, didn't seem like an electrical fault, plugs, and coil good, cylinder getting fuel. i has thinking if i remove my cylinder heads, (engine is ready to come out of my Zed) is there a way of telling, (was going to do my HG at the same time)

could always fit sports cats, although i think they are a waste of money, tbh I've ran a number of various Nissans without cats, i agree it does shorten the life of your turbos, but it does make a fair bit of difference to the car, ie throttle response is much nicer, my Zed decat which is why im currently replacing my turbos...:tongue_smilie: and white Zed it doesn't matter if its an import its done by the age of the engine not when it was registered, in theory you could fit a 1969 440 V8 into an brand new car and it could be decat...

300zx subframes...
i dont want to increase my power too much at the moment so im trying to strip as much weight as i can, now i want racing seats in the front, does anyone know where i can get subframes for a 300zx? i have a nice heavy LWB and im thinking of stripping everything from the front seats back, i've already done alot under the bonnet. this question might annoy some of the elitists out there, if you dont like what im doing with my Zed, keep it to your self its my Zed so :tt2:

Zed peformance figures 0-60 ad 0-100
http://www.torquestats.com/modified/index.php?pid=calculator this is quite a good site for working out 0-60 its about right too, it makes alot of assumptions though, my LWB auto can do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, o.k its been on a diet but its only got 313bhp...

haha, i can top that... i took my Zed with me to a Nissan/renault garage in Bolton only needed a few minor parts, he couldn't find it on the computer, so he came out side to have a look and take the chassis number and asked me.... " ... is it a Renault..." :death: the worst part was he was serious, and then later that day someone at a petrol station asked if it was a vauxhall... so yeah i agree avoid dealerships....

Small/Major?? prob, PLEASE HELP!!
i had a similar problem with my old car ( an s13 200sx ) it turned out that a boost pipe had come off (not completely but was basically causing a major boost leak), it might be when they service it they didn't tighten one of the clamps properly and its come off, in fact it sounds very similar because that's what i did, floored it and it cut out as it stepped onto boost

300zx V8?
it is the tvr version from the 3.5L Tasmin, its just called it the rover v8 for some reason, its probably a bad idea it is only 200bhp at the moment, but it just sounded amazing, and had a manual box as aposed to my auto, i was just thinking to fit tat moter most of the heavy crap they fitted to the Z32 could go in the bin, i know mines a LWB but i think i could easily get it down to 1200KG as the engine and gearbox are lighter??? i have to admit i was going to super charge it a stick a blower out the bonnet, maybe ill put thos off till i have more space and funds... that way i could get and fit an ls7 Z06 engine.. (i know these fit )

300zx V8?
right i know im supposed to be selling my Zed, but i was thinking of buying a 280Zx and fitting a v8, however i've found a tvr 3.5L V8 and manual box, and im thinking of trying to make it fit? any idea if this would work/ how much effort/ special parts needed? its the tvr version of the sd1 V8, it should fit, not sure about the gearbox, apart from needing a new brain i cant see any major problems...

thanks was a stupid question really, but i know how picky some mot centres can be... might not matter anyway now, as i want rid of my 300zx so i can buy a 280ZX---i smell a v8 conversion...

headlight question,
i had a search and i know alot of people chrome the headlight inserts, but could they be painted any colour and still be legal? i was just thinking of either spraying mine matt black as i don't like the faded grey look, or maybe red to match the rest of the car?

aircon fan re-wire
right my zed is still in many pieces and wont becoming back on the road for a few months, so im doing some wait saving whilst i change my turbos, i've remover the air con radiator/ pump/ pulley/ and 90% of the hoses, (didn't realise how heavy it is!!!) and i found the air con electric fan located between the oil cooler (or gearbox fluid cooler in some) and the water radiator now heres the question how does the fan work? i have 3 wires coming out of it and i want to attach it to a switch(or direct to the ignition) so i can bin the viscous fan any other suggestions for weight saving? (spare is gone), so is most of the boot... but i want to leave the interior alone...

plenum water pipe removal?
im looking for a guide on how to by pass the water pipes on the under side of the plenum? i know you can easily remove them and they arn't important, and as mine has rusted to bits i cant re fit it without getting a new pelnum have searched but not found it anywhere..?

problems with my Zed
took more of it aprt this morning , till i broke the racket on my good wrench...:blushing: anyway, found alot of oil on the passenger side compressor outlet, and i found the the inside of the plenum has a fair bit of oil in it, (this car has sat in a cold garage all night) and more alarmingly, the 2 pipes that go to the recirc valves, from the plenum bar thing...(sorry not sure what its called) were really oily i think it must have been a major turbo seal failure, caused by the exhaust leak at the elbow? anyone agree?
