  1. It only looks worn out there because it was stripped. The belt looks almost new across the intake camshaft sprockets!
  2. Well moving on again from the "CRANK SENSOR TEST" thread. I decided to strip the car back to view the timing belt. When I removed the covers I had good feel at the belt and found that it was stripped at the bottom pulley as V6Power and AndyP suggested. Although the belt is still there and tight it just seems to have sheared a light strip off. Take a look, RED CIRCLE shows the the belt itself, and the RED SQUARE shows the part thats stripped!!
  3. Thanks Smithy!! I'm going to give it a go I think! At least I'll know for sure and have piece of mind plus at then end of the day, I'm already thinking of breaking it so, I may as well attempt to strip it back.
  4. Will do if I ever get around to stripping it back that far!!
  5. I was looking at the Z workshop manual, and stripping it back to that point, seems to be a big job plus they mention some tools that I dont have.
  6. I'm just thinking along those lines now, and will look into the costing and figures on breaking it. Its a real shame to be honest. I dont like seeing UK Manual Twin Turbos going down this route.
  7. That's probably a bigger job and not for me though?? and I'm not sure if going to that expense is worth it on this car. I think this could now, turn out to be a breaker, or to sell complete and let someone else do the work.
  8. Well thats the bad news!! Might not be worth stripping it down now?
  9. Thanks Marty! I have kinda gone through all the other checks: Fuel Pump, ECU check, Crank Angle sensor, Top of the timing belts and altenator. Only thing I have not changed is the PTU, but maybe there is no point now as the belt does not even go round.
  10. The car does not actually START. To explain a bit better, when I say the car moves forward, it only moves forward when I put it in gear and turn the ignition fully round to strat. It still does not actually start just pushes forward slightly.
  11. The car does move forward no problem when started in gear!
  12. I'm sure it is!! Its difficult for me and I CAN see and hear it!! I was looking at the starter and the belts are all there. Is there anything in particular I should look for? The only way I can explain it is, when I turn the ignition, it just sounds like a WEIGHTLESS start. Doesnt feel like the engine is trying to turn over. Do you think I should try the PTU option next before anything major??
  13. I dont actually think the engine is turning over as such? The noise I'm hearing when I turn the key is more like the starter motor and there doesnt seem to be any effort in the engine starting. Whats the best way to check this? Forgive the question but I'm not really an engine wizard!!
  14. I have checked the teeth on the timing belt on the top left and right and they are in great shape!
  15. I cranked the car over! The marker didnt move and I have now freed up the right side timing cover and the belt is visible there too! I'll have a look at the teeth now.
  16. I have now pulled back the timing belt cover slightly on the left side of the engine and I can see that the belt is still there, its tight and looks in healthy condition from what I can see. So what I done was put a mark on the timing belt, I then turned the ignition on for a second, then checked the belt again. The belt position never moved??? Can anyone shine a light on this?
  17. Cheers Andy good link. Mine is the old one then!!
  18. Right I'm moving on from my previous thread of "LOSS OF POWER" I have now removed the Crank Angle sensor and doing the test. When I turn the senor by hand I can only hear, what seems to be two clicks! Can anyone tell me how many I should be hearing? I have also freed the PTU unit for inspection, is there any tell tale signs that its a series 1 or series 2 unit? I see a few numbers on the casing but no dates as such.
  19. Thanks Zulley!! Was talking to my friend V6Power, who suggested the same thing also. So I have basically decided to get a series 2 PTU, temp sensor and crank sensor and go from there.
  20. Right done the fuel check that GREG suggested. Fuel is flowing just fine!! So could it possibly be the PTU or Crank sensor. I take it when you do the ECU diagnostics it does not cover everything? Because the EU code I got is 55.
  21. Just got this car in the yard today. I have been looking over, done the ecu test, code 55 flashes. Was going to check fuel pump but just want to ask the experts a few things first!! I can hear the fuel pump come on when the ignition is switched on but then it stops with a bit of a click coming from around the drivers side rear??? Could this be a fuel pump problem or relay as suggested by Andy P and V6power?
  22. Found this today on my search to increase my Z knowledge. It covers NA and TT models. http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/timingBelt/timingBelt.html
