A Bit Disapointed
Go for it! 3R is £51k though

HICAS Elimination
Got my HICAS eliminator bar from courtesy now, so hopefully going to get it fitted soon. Thing is I want to remove all the crap from under the bonnet that goes with it. Anyone know if I can block the high pressure outlet from the pump, or does that dead head it? I'm thinking if the same HP supply feeds the front steering rack then it'd be OK to block it. Either that or fit an NA steering pump I suppose - anyone got one lying around?

Colder plugs - where from?
I know HKS 8's don't run very well when cold. The ZFR7F-11 is an NGK plug, closest match to PFR6B-11B for nose projection and work fine. There is NO direct NGK colder replacement plug with the same projection as the -6B.

Colder plugs - where from?
ZFR7F-11 from any local parts place, 0.8mm gap.

Actuator vacuum hose resiting??
Don't see any reason not to do it if its neater, but I don't think you'll gain anything. The pressure the actuators see will still be governed by the boost controller anyway so even if it is slightly lower at the TB due to pressure drop through the intake pipes it shouldn't make too much difference.

Actuator vacuum hose resiting??
Mark, Is that line still on the upstream (ie not manifold) side of the throttle? From memory, isn't it also a very small diameter port into the body its self? Most systems run straight off the compressor outlet, you could always do that.

Hicas Disconnection
I did put UK clocks on mine and I still hated it. Guess it depends on your driving style etc. too.

Thor Dyno Results
I can't tell you that, it's a secret!! TBH, most of it is just looking after it properly (excluding the fuel system apparently - oops!) Other than that, ZFR7F-11 (el cheapo £1.50 copper) plugs, some timing map tweaks and that's about it. Thing is, had cj/Tony C's been running right they'd have been much more impressive. I hope they both get them sorted. It shows it can be done though, Stu's is the same.

Hicas Disconnection
Nice one Ryan, it really is amazing how kak HICAS is !!

Thor Dyno Results
Think I might have sorted my fuelling probs, just bypassed the PVPR system to remove the kinked hose (and some more complexity). Still starts OK without the fuel boost it gives, so hopefully no downside. Maybe be able to rev a bit higher now. Might buy a wideband O2 sensor I think! Cj's car will be awsome when it's running right. Made that power at bugger all revs/boost v. impressive

MAF Voltage at Idle
Cheers mate, looks like that's about the norm then.

Thor Dyno Results
Probably a timing thing, if your AFR was constant there. Some tuners maps have a pretty big dip in the timing at that point. Found a badly kinked vacuum line to the PVPR system this morning so I'm hoping that's what was wrong

Rolling Road - 24th January 2004
Good news to hear you're becoming a trader. It'll be good to have a professional, properly equipped outfit with a good knowledge of the Z. Maybe you'll do a club discount for that mapping work we talked about :p

I Went To RR Day At THOR Today......
Problem on mine was just running out of injector duration at 5500rpm. After the initial run which overboosted a bit I pulled it back to ~15psi peak. With the second map I wanted to try, AFR is ~11.3 which was where I was aiming until 5.5k then it just leans out, even though the maps are still trying to put in ever more fuel at that point. Initial det at higher boost was at 3~3.5k, which coincides with the turbos coming on song and peak torque so I'll look at what can be done about that. I think there's some truth in the fans not getting the I/C properly as I'd run with the first set of conditions on the road for ages with no det (and you would have heard this, believe me). Also, I guess the RR can hold load at a given RPM longer than you can ever achieve on the road so you probably hit engine conditions you never see there either.

358bhp & 365ft/ib @~15psi Mods: Apexi Intake Profec E01 boost controller GPS Exhaust JD Chip :) Stu, interested that you managed to get peak at 6.6k, did it run to the redline at that sort of boost OK? Sort of points to my fuel system being a bit rough if mine ran out of injector at 5500rpm and 15psi :(

I Went To RR Day At THOR Today......
Biggest problem I had was a bit of Det at 3000-3200rpm with my first Map/boost set up. Looking at the curves though, it probably would have been OK if he drove through it (glad he didn't though) as the good run I had peaked at higher boost then the first one. Going to expand the maps out to max load properly now I've got a handle on where to aim for . Worked really well up to 5500 rpm then just ran out of injector capacity and leaned out. Shame really as the first map I had tried was producing 40ft/ib more at 2-3k rpm. Guess I'll make a hybrid of the two as a starting point.

I Went To RR Day At THOR Today......
Yeah, was a good day and impressive kit. RR Operator was genuinely knowlegable and helpful too. Shows the benefit of setting up boost controller on the RR though, with the extra time for the turbos to spool at a given speed, it's easy to boost more at low revs than you ever see on the road. Pretty chuffed with 358bhp/366ft/ib though.

What is the best electronic boost controller and why?
Yeah, exactly, you need a harness (about £20) then you can connect a further 2 analogue and 2 pulse signals up and have warnings on them all. You can even drive an external buzzer/lamp. With emanage you'd get a lot more signals, but the basic unit will do boost/rpm/2 analogue/ 2 pulse + 1 warning out and 1 clamped analogue output.

What is the best electronic boost controller and why?
Profec E01 Pics OK, maybe not the neatest install, but I was in a hurry and it was about -5 when I did it

Your thoughs on Turbos please
TBH, I wouldn't run the Zemulator permanantly, just for set up. I've made essentially the same thing using the same hardware (Xtronics Romulator) and Excel, but xtronics recommend that the romulaor not be installed full time. I've used it for mapping, but the hardware reset seems a bit iffy sometimes - perhaps I've just got a knackered one. A guy in the states is developing a conversion from Eprom to a dallas PVRam chip which will enable real time mapping through the consult port using a new routine embedded in the CPU code. Much better and reliable solution IMO.

What is the best electronic boost controller and why?
Mark, You don't have to use emanage if you've got an E01, it's optional. I'm very happy with mine, response and control is better than the Blitz one I had and the display is excellent. You can hook up other signals to record (mine does MAF voltage, Lambda voltage and vehicle speed too). Record/Playback feature is excellent for tuning and it can store 3 hours of traces.

Timing Belt Fit
Cheers for the replies. Clarkey, I'd take pics but don't have a digi camera yet!! As for the HICAS arms, they're fine. The back's not loose as such, I just hate HICAS and the feeling it gives.

Timing Belt Fit
Just ordered a timing belt kit from courtesy, anyone tell me if there are any special tools I'm likely to need? Got a HICAS eliminator coming too :) Goodbye twitchy rear end and 30kg!
