Expansion tank. Is it needed ?
To use an oil catch tank as an expansion tank then you would need to put a dip tube in it so the in/outlet was always in the water

Expansion tank. Is it needed ?
Yes, you still need it. When the system is up to temp expansion forces the coolant past the cap into the tank. On cooling when it contracts, coolant is sucked back out of the tank. If you remove it you will get coolant spilling out when hot then air drawn in when cooling.

Emerald engine management on a Z32!
If you could manage that then you'll be able to fit this, its a straight plug in job with one wire needed on the fuel pump controller. As Pete says, biggest problem at the minute is not having a base map for a TT, once we have one to supply with the unit then it will run OK as soon as fitted so you can drive it to a dyno for mapping.

greddy e0-1
SOunds most likely its been left in auto mode and not tuned. Make sure its in manual then try the setting suggested and see how it goes then.

Emerald engine management on a Z32!
Yes, as long as you can find somewhere to fit the filters. At the minimum you can get rid of the tee piece and loose the pressure drop through that. Price of the kit is as above, exact price to be confirmed but ~£1000. Emerald's mapping service is £275 + VAT last time I looked.

Emerald engine management on a Z32!
Yeah, I thought so too. That's until the VAT rise though, can't do much about that!

Emerald engine management on a Z32!
Cost is going to be ~£1000 for the basic system.

ECU Loom extension
Anyone remember seeign these? Its a short piece of loom that goes between the ECU plug and the ECU so if you are hacking the loom then you can hack into this. Trying to get hold of them as an alternative, neater method of wiring for the Emerald conversion. On Pete's I gutted a stock ECU and used that but would rather use the extension if possible.

Emerald engine management on a Z32!
Must say, was great to finally get this running. The stuff has been sitting in my office for about 3 months. As Pete says, we're going to do this as a full conversion if anyone is interested. Its a hell of a good system and very affordable too, I've used them since I used to do 205's and wouldn't swap to anything else. I totally agree with the praise for Dave too, he's as good as it gets, trust me, infact one of the best benefits of the system is the fixed-price mapping service emerald do, it's as cheap as I can get the dyno time alone! The system we're offering is a plug and play solution which requires no external wiring for basic functions and is also completely reversible if you want to sell the car on. If you don't want to use the stock loom because of age then a custom loom can of course be made up. Basic System will be: Emerald K6 ECU (brand new model) Conversion loom that plugs into stock ECU plug Relevant sensors Switch for changing maps Modified CAS (exchange) chromed an option for you blingers MAP Sensor for TT Specific Z32 Installation manual Extra's: Boost control solenoid (get rid of the aftermarket controller and use the K6) Wideband lambda for closed loop fuel control Optional display for wideband. Installation service The ECU has great features including 3 switchable maps, variable boost control, adjustable traction control, full throttle shift, plenty of extra outputs for NOS, exhaust bypass etc. etc. Any questions then drop Pete or myself a line! Baz, for your setup then this probably is a better bet. Give me a call and I can talk you through the pro's/cons of each option vs re-mapped stock ECU.

500bhp TT Best exhaust???
Looking at those prices, Alunox wouldn't be that much more expensive anyway and you get your choice on diameter, tail pipe design etc.

600zx - Finally back to work....
Lol, sounds familiar. So pleased all my pipework is on JIC connectors, can dismantle it in half the time.
-
600zx - Finally back to work....
Back off due to knackered starter motor. Unfortunately it has exhaust manifolds wrapped around it so engine out to change! Bugger.

600zx - Finally back to work....
Nice to see you're working on it again, good luck!

JWT vs Z1 DOOLZ
Will be better with the JWT ones, not just because of the diameter but also because the 2 swept bends will flow much better than the doolz arrangement as there is no turbulence and associated losses where the pipes merge. With no MAF there is no need to run anything linking the 2 banks.

ATTN john dixon
No idea, sorry! Don't think its one I had at the house to do any work on so don't know the spec.

Hi Mark, Who did you buy it off?

What spark plugs for higher boost?
Yep, they're fine

John Dixon 555cc Chip
Not really, be best to ask the engine builder guy what turbos are fitted hopefully he will have more detail on them, you say they're 360deg bearings but do you know if they are stock other than that or have bigger compressors? I think on the dyno run then you'll find that that chip runs pretty rich top end, its meant to be like that to keep things cool when people push stock turbos too far! On hols for a week from tomorrow so PM me to remind me when I get back!
-
John Dixon 555cc Chip
If you have some more details on the turbos I can supply something that will be better off the shelf but would really be best to get it on the dyno and set it up properly.
-
John Dixon 555cc Chip
You're certainly pushing it at that sort of boost, your right off the end of the maps and I wouldn't recommend running it that way! If you haven't caused any damage so far then you're unlikely to but I'd look at fitting a more suitable map. Also run on V-power if you can!
-
John Dixon 555cc Chip
Hi Kash, That chip is designed to run on stock turbos @15psi so not good for more than about 400bhp. What spec is the car now (turbos/cams etc.) If it's still got 555cc injectors then it wasn't running 700bhp unless they changed them out too. Cheers
-
What spark plugs for higher boost?
Right plug type but it doesn't state the heat range. Just search ebay for BKR7EIX, I got 8 for about £40 recently for mine.

single tubo dyno results part 1 DYNO GRAPH ADDED
Must say I was surprised by this, the big single is actually not too bad lag-wise and there is certainly more power to come when the boost control and fuel starvation issues are fixed. Kinda have a suspicion we will be able to extend the power curve up at high revs a fair bit but cams will be limiting. Be intersting to see what a big garret GT ball bearing unit would be like. Fair play to Anthony for having a go :hurray:

Many thanks John Dixon
Cheers guys, was good to meet you both too after speaking so many times! Steve, drop me a PM if you want and will explain things in more detail for you.
