  1. Residual pressure valves just hold 2psi on each callipar to stop pad knock back. Give more immediate brake response which I think the Z lacks.
  2. AIV's are just there for dilution of exhaust gas with air. Wouldn't worry about cooling, it's just an emissions thing. ABS: should be completely stripping mine out and putting residual pressure valves on this weekend. Will try and remember to get some pics.
  3. Yes you can easily squeeze more than JWT without removing too much margin of safety. In actual fact, JWT has no 'lo octane' ie det maps anyway so it's not really all that safe if you do have a problem. PM me if you want and I can sort one out for you.
  4. Nice one Jay! Be pleased with just one on the road at the minute :headvswal
  5. Was just really pissed off with the forum at the time, at the minute I'm not. Toys are back in the pram.
  6. Don't at the minute, but if you struggle, can see what's available in Japan.
  7. Good to meet you both and see Danny again. Kinda reminded me there are a load of good people on here too. Did you get an engine sorted out yet?
  8. Ouch, never understood why the japs think that's a good idea! You might be able to taper it down a bit to get it past things, but the angle needs to be shallow to avoid large pressure drop so you still won't have much room. Just worth bearing in mind that a 90mm pipe with a sharp bend will probably be more restrictive than a slightly smaller less bent one. Will try to dig out the equivalent diamaters table I have (it's ages since I did any fluid dynamics). Good luck with it, sounds like a right PITA!
  9. Did you know border do a large diameter intake pipework kit? May not be any use with FMIC or too expensive, but might be worth a look?
  10. Ooooh Not water! Don't you know us dumb ****ers dissolve in that stuff. Give it a rest eh mate. I've never even met you so no idea what your problem is. Mark, I've now got all the engine internals made, just took ages because they're bespoke. Pistons are moly coated slippers, flat top will give 12:1CR. Rods are farndon H section. Waiting on pace to manufacture a new crank pulley to drive the alternator and dry sump pump then the bottom end can be assembled and balanced. Cams are 29/69 69/29, 11mm which is pretty big for a road car, especially as they're a mechanical profile so the total lift profile is much more than those figures would make you think. Expecting the power band to be ~3.5-8.5k with peak torque probably 5k (at least that's what I'm tuning the headers for). Intake is still going to depend on what I can fit 100-200mm runner length into and still get a good cold air feed in. Probably be an air box on each side with the 4 throttles into the back of it but they may cross from the opposite bank or loop round from the same side. Headache at the minute is going to be feeding the oil into the engine with out getting too much DP from having to go 180 degrees out of the filter housing.
  11. Sounds lovely Rob! Always happy to help out mate. Least I can do :duffer:
  12. Nice reasoned reply, must have taken a while to think up such an intelligent, eloquent comeback. One last time for the record, I've never slagged off Ian or what he's doing, I actually always thought we got on pretty well. Hell, we've even helped each other out at times. :headvswal
  13. Couldn't agree more. And that's NOT HAVING A GO.
  14. My point is I have never had grievences with anyone! I'm just doing my own thing. Be a pretty boring life if everyone was the same, so why get on your soap box.
  15. Well, my dad's bigger than your dad   I rest my case :x:
  16. Thanks for all the support guys. I've made a lot of friends on here. My love / passion for these cars has not diminished in any way, and anyone that still wants advise / work etc please feel free to contact me, some people on here (Chunk, Leigh, Matt to name a few) will always have my number or my mail address is on here. I just feel recently this place has gone downhill. Too much drivel, too many people spouting 2nd hand crap without ever having actually done anything and too much chavvy shite. Seems any thread with any worth ends up with my car's better than your car and a load of ego massaging. To be honest, this forum was what got me into the Z in the first place, and it's a shame to see it end up like this but at the end of the day it's really not important enough to me to get all that bothered about, Just hope everyone on here remembers what the cars are for - go and DRIVE them and just enjoy it! Anyway, stick a fork in me - I'm done :(
  17. Well peeps, been loosing interest in this place a hell of a lot recently, seems there's nowt worth reading on here anymore. Even if there is it invariably ends up as a slagging match. Be over on the ZClub if anyone wants me. Might check my PM's every now and then too.
  18. Why must things always decend to this level on the bloody net! Wasn't talking about you, just talking about doing 200mph in a street legal road car.
  19. Unlikely! But TBH if it does I really couldn't give a shit. I'm trying to build a DRIVERS CAR, and as long as I enjoy driving it I don't give a toss if I get burned off by a nova. I'd happily sacrifice 0.5s down the strip for less squat out of corners or 50mph off the top end for better acceleration, or 100bhp for a better power curve for that matter. It's why I can't be arsed with TOTB etc, don't care what anyone else thinks, just doing my own thing the way I want to do it.
  20. Hell yeah, just kinda futile and totally pointless IMO. You'll destroy me at that as I think mine's only going to be geared to do 140-150. Will get there quick though :D
  21. Was good to meet you too bud. Drop me a line about sorting the other stuff if you want and can have a chat about it. Too much hassle to post!!
  22. Oh, yes sorry, think it's down below the actuators and stuff. I can check on mine soon if you don't find it before then!
  23. Under that plastic trim just behind the driver's headrest.
  24. One thing to remember with going down the MAP based route is that it will require re-mapping for all small changes you make, unlike a MAF based system which will compensate to some degree. It's the right way to go, just a bit more hassle. I'm going for the emerald system on mine with the V8, and was going to make up a conversion harness to fit it onto the VG using the standard loom if anyone wants to try it. For my cash it's about the best system out there for the money, and the software is also excellent to use.
  25. Yeah, I'll vouch for that having carried a VG now!
