Can you hear the fuel pump priming when you set the key to position 2 (where all the lights come on the dash prior to starting) Sounds like the CAS to me though mate

email it to me mate, ill put it on for you220 diesel???good shout there, the new 159 is one of the best alfas in agesmmmmm, how about: a) Skoda Octavia vRs - Massively underrated car, great to drive, very practicle b) BMW 120d Coupe - Jodies current company car, suprisingly good fun to drive, 600 miles to a tank of fuel and very comfy over distances, better looking that its hatch sibling, BMW make the best most refined diesels FACT! c) Kia Pro 'ceed - very highly rated and one of the best cars out of Korean region, pretty funky looking in the candy apple green and candy apple red colours. Hopefully some food for thought for you mateCheers guys.
