I think the first (and only) time I did this it took me four hours to get the plenum and injector rails out ! Can't remember how long to put it back but I did a few other jobs as well and I like to do it 'right'. So at £50 (or more!) per hour plus VAT, I can see how you would end up with a bill similar to that.

Yeah, injectors fire on every stroke, rather than just sequentially on cranking.

You ought to, assuming the calipers are working and the pistons are not seized, it's about greater mechanical advantage (eg a longer lever). In other words, the pads have a better chance of grabbing the disc.
