  1. There are approx 50 300zx's that come up each week in the Japanese auctions of all models, years colours and mileages. It takes approx 6 weeks to get a car from Japan once purchased. It all depends what you are looking for.
  2. Yes got one, its great, excellent battery life...
  3. I am not sure where you get your 55,000 miles from, I have access to all of the Japanese auctions and the mileages vary greatly. there are approx 300zx's auctioned each week, many are as low as 10,000 miles whilst some are as high as 100,000 miles. But as in the Uk if you buy one with anything over 60,000 miles it is a fraction of the cost of a low miles one. Maybe you are only looking at the importers who buy the cheap ones? Also the auction houses sell these as genuine mileage, if there is an issue with the mileage being altered or suspicious it is shown as such on the auction sheet. As for HPI etc, when the car comes from Japan it has a Japanese deregistration Document which guarantees it is released from Japan. When registed in the UK an interpol check is also made. All in all you know a lot more about an import than a UK car in my opinion.
  4. Chris, tyre review for this tyre is here... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=PZero+Nero
  5. Don't worry it is definately legal as long as you were going directly to and from the MOT Station. There is no other way of doing it. I am certain of this as I have taken dozens of cars in the past and on a few occasions had the police check it out.
  6. Pioneer TS-H467 110W, is it because my car is a Mk4? will the fitting be different? Did you manage to fit yours by just lifting the covers off? Did you also recable it?
  7. Just done that now but the 6 x 4 speakers I bought are not fitting in well, looks like I should have had 4 x 4. Will it matter if they are only secured by a couple of screws and the speakers stick up a bit as long as they do not touch the covers?
  8. Does anyone have any instructions of pictures of how to replace rear speakers? It looks like I may have to take out loads of trim, but if there is a simple way I would like to find it before starting. Thanks
  9. I work in Northwich, on that occasion was driving my red facelift GTO TT as the silver 300ZX is at the bodyshop having a 99 Bumper fitted..
  10. Probably was you if you were turning by the Bakery at the lights.........
  11. It does not matter what it should be, I am telling you what it actually is. The Japanese De-Reg documents only give "FIRST REGISTRATION YEAR/MONTH" this is the date the DVLA use for the V5 even though it says declared date of first manufacture
  12. When a car is imported to the UK the Japanese De-Reg papers give the date of first registration in Japan. This date is used by the DVLA to record the year and registration. It does not detail the date on the V5 only the year. This is not the date of manufacture but the date of first registration in Japan, which can be very different. Beware as the japanese date system is different the DVLA often get it wrong, I have had 10 year old vehicles registed as NEW by the DVLA until I pointed out their error.
  13. Use Brake Cleaner to get the glue off when you have peeled off the film using a hairdryer
  14. Had two Supras and currently have a facelist GTO Twin Turbo 4wd 4ws 6 Speed and a Mk4 300ZX TT. What do I prefer? Overall, sorry its the GTO. With its 4wd it gets the power down every time, no drama, and in the facelift (non popup headlight form) I think it looks better. The exceptions I would make is driving position, if you have very long legs the ZX is better and the Targa top for the summer. As for reliability the GTO has never missed a beat in the 4 years I have owned it. So out of 10 its Supra 8, ZX 8.5 and GTO 9 for me.
  15. There is a calculator that works out all the options see here http://www.rochfordtyres.co.uk/TyreCalc.asp
  16. Wayfarer, Your price for a non turbo was a bit high, they are making approx 300,000yen inc delivery to the port in Japan for one with approx 50,000 miles and no damage, you may have a lower mileage one but if you paid at least £500 too much, but not too bad I suppose. Its not true about what they said about shipping, you can get a vehicle shipped to any UK port for the same cost, all have sailings every 4 weeks or so. As for the speedo face or the chip, you are better buying a speedo chip, there are posts with how to fit on here. Once fitted you only need to paint out the K on KMPH with matt black paint and it will read in MPH. If you simply change to a MPH face this will work but will only read to approx 110mph. But what I don't understand is why are you doing this? You should expect a good importer to convert the speedo, fit a radio band expander, and rear foglight. Also to supply it with am MOT if they are as I estimate charging you approx £700 for getting the car. There are dealers on this site who sell the coverters. If you do a search on google you can find other cheaper suppliers.
  17. Importing is not that simple because you first have to find the right car at the right price in the Japanese auctions. Out of approx. 100,000 cars per week that are auctioned only one or two who fit the spec you are after, assuming you want low mileage and good condition. Then the Japaenese paperwork and transport to the japanese docks needs to be arranged, followed by shipping, insurance, UK customs, UK transport and if under 10 years old SVA. As you won't have access to buy from Japanese auctions, like I do, you will be in the hands of dealers who may or may not give you a good deal or possibly misrepresent the car. Have just had a look, only cars in the next couple of days that are manual TT have either got a low auction grade, poor condition, or are the wrong colour. As I said they do come up, but not very often.
  18. For SVA the speedo is required to display in mph and to fulfill an accuracy test on the rolling road. The mph face is not included in the MOT manual, however, some people maintain that if your speedo does not show mph you are committing an offence as normally vehicles are required to display mph so they can accurately determine their speed. I don't know of any cases where someone has been pulled up for speeding where the police have raised it as an issue, but for £10 for a face or £40 for a chip it does not seem worth the risk
  19. Almost.... you also need to send evidence that duty and VAT have been paid, this is on the form from customs. Also you should be displaying your speed in MPH but often MOT centres do not check this.
  20. Yes these tyres are the worst you could buy... See Here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=FR690

I may be the only person on the form who has both, a facelift GTO Twin Turbo 4WD 4WS and a Mk4 Twin Turbo 300ZX. In simple terms the ZX has a better driving position but getting the power down and handling are better on the GTO. Also side by side most people prefer the look of the GTO. But the 300ZX is better for summer with the TBar
  22. Ther used to be a loophole that was closed last year, where you could register the vehicle as for someone who was disabled, the loophole has now been closed. SVA (no model report required)applies for vehicles prior to 1997 unless over 10 years old, ESVA (model report required) to vehicle from 1997 onwards. Hope this helps...
  23. I am a bit reluctant to tell you all of this as I use the site solely as a Mk4 300zx owner, who is upgrading his car, but as I have imported large numbers of cars from Japan in the past I thought I should give you some guidance and information so that you dont waste too much time. I have access to all of the Japanese auctions. I have just checked the recent sales for you. There have only been a couple of 99 models sold in the last couple of weeks, all have had very low mileage (below 30,000km) and have sold for over 2,000,000 yen. Therefore when you add Japanese port transport and fees, shipping, UK port fees, 10% duty and 17.5% VAT. The typical 99 model will cost you almost £15,000 to the door. But even if you get it to your door you will find you cannot register it as it needs a ESVA, in order to do this you would need a model report. As there is no model report for the 300zx it therefore follows that it will not pass ESVA. Thats why I got myself a late 1994 model, when its over 10 years old it does not need ESVA. Hope this helps///
  24. I think so, so I am better getting 3 or 4 way than 2 way?
