anyone imported a car from japan?!
Yes, have imported over 100 cars from Japan. There is a very simple rule of thumb, whatever it cost in auction double it to get it on the road in the UK. Therefore: If auction price is £3,000 then you need £500 Japanese transport & dereg, £650 roll on roll off shipping (more if in container). Then 10% duty on the £4150 so far ie £415, then 17.5% VAT on £4565 ie £799. Total £5365 to get to UK, then there are port fees and transport from the docs which are between £160 - £300 depending how far you are from the docks. If over 10 years old you need to convert speedo and put in rear fog light, get it MOTed and then pay for first registration fee. Bringing the total cost to approx £6000 for your £3000 purchase in Japan. If the car is under 10 years old it can only go through an SVA if there are model reports available, they are not available for many cars.

Importing from Japan?
Just had a look on all the Jap auctions there are 11 being auctioned this week, four are grade 4 (very good condition) and one grade 4.5 (as good as you can get) Mileages are as low as 21,000 36000 and 39000 Kilometers thats only 13,000 miles. So you would be better going for something like that. There are also 129000 Km vehicles in poor condition, as they are respraying them I suspect this is what you may get. They are here: http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/figaro.jpg Good luck!

Importing from Japan?
As an importer of very many cars from Japan over the last 5 years, my advice would be to buy as good a vehicle as possible direct from the Japanese auctions, have it shipped and look at it in its original state. If you subsequently want to respray at least you will know what you gave purchased, they are not that expensive in Japan.

Which year should I go for?
If you can get it registered on the road in Finland I would go for importing one from Japan Direct to Finland.

I have just advertised my other halfs MX5 for sale. It is a 1993L 1.8i V Spec, (top of the range) Black with Tan Leather, recent 15" 5 Spoke alloys and Tyres, aircon, electric windows. And as for the hood I replaced the original MK1 hood with a MK2 hood. The advantage being that it has a glass heated rear window, and to lower the hood you just need to unclip at the front, no unzipping at the back. Its a very nice car I am only selling because I bought her a Volvo C70 Convertable as she was complaining ar only having two seats! Its advertised for £3995 but will take £3695 if its of any interest.

Nice 350Z with Modified Body
Just been looking at cars in this weeks Japanese Auctions. Saw a 350Z with a different front bumper, in my opinion it looks 10X better than the standard car. See here http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/350Zmodified.jpg http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/350Zmodified2.jpg

Targa roof panel opening problem
The plasic surround has been a bit loose on the NS panel but has been opening OK. This morning the unlock sliding part would not move enough to release the handle. Moved it about for 5 minutes unit I eventually got it to open. Its still open, and off the car, so I wanted to try and fix it before it goes back on. I may not be able to get it off again! Has anyone had this problem and knows how it comes apart, I took the screw out but there seems no obvious way to pull it apart, the locking switch seems to stop it. Thanks

Currently changing Air Filter need advice from some who has done it. Please
Sorted, I put cable ties around the T hoses and air intakes to keep them solid and made two brackets to hold the back of the splash guard. So everything that is left is now secure. Was not sure if I should put a bracket on the new apexi, it seems solid as it is so have just left it attached without a bracket.

Currently changing Air Filter need advice from some who has done it. Please
Just taken my stock filter box out to fit apexi, but I am not sure what to do with the splash guard that is now only fixed at the front and is therefore a bit loose. Also the plastic intakes at each side which went into the stock airbox are a bit loose, what did people do with these bits?

Please Vote which of my 17" & 18" Alloys do I keep?
Are you sure you are not being swayed by the fact that the front are 18"? 4 women have looked at the car at this end and all think the rear 17" look better? 17" vs 18" means nothing to them..............

Please Vote which of my 17" & 18" Alloys do I keep?
Have got round to fitting both alloys on the car today so I compare them. One set are 17" with new Avon 234 45 17 and 225 40 17 The other set are 18" with new Good Year F1 235 40 18 and 245 40 18 I have posted 4 picture with links below. Do I keep the ones on the front or the back? I will be making my decision on which look best so will leave you to decide which are which. Its a split decision at this end so what I want is your opinion, which looks best the front or the back? http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/300zxwheelcompare.jpg http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/300zxwheelcompare2.jpg http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/300zxwheelcomparefront.jpg http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/auser/300zxwheelcompareback.jpg
